  1. Big waste of fish makes anglers angry Wednesday, June 10, 2015 Jeff Turl Local anglers saw gill net fishers tossing dead fish back into lake Nipissing. Photos courtesy Tony Aultman. When Tony Aultman saw more than 50 seagulls squawking and flying in circles around a boat on Lake Nipissing Saturday he became curious. What he saw, made him angry. He and his son-in-law were in a live release pike derby about three miles northwest of the government dock when they saw the birds circling a boat with two men in it throwing dead fish back into the lake. "They were pulling a net in but they were firing all the fish back into the lake, they were too ripe to keep. Every seagull had a pickerel....all 15, 16 inches. They all had their own fish, they weren't fighting but they were eating well. Aultman says it was a small boat, with no numbers and the men quickly hauled the gill net into their boat and headed towards the government dock. "They were in a hurry too once they saw us coming at them. They were getting out of Dodge. They knew we were taking pictures of them. They were a little nervous I think," Aultman added. "I came from the Manitous, then fished in Duchesney Creek by the Mother house and back north up the shore." That's when they saw the seagulls. "It's just depressing for us as fishermen, you know. They (MNR) keep on cutting us down. There's a whole bunch of us that are getting a little fed up of all this waste. The waste is the main thing. "They are not just targeting pickerel, they're killing all the other fish too. "We still want to go out and catch our dinner too. We spend a lot of money to go fishing, but it gets depressing. We catch two (pickerel) and we're fine with that. From six to four to two---now it's really bad. I don't even keep the big ones now because I've thrown them back for 20 years because they don't taste that good. Now, what do we fish for?" Aultman left a phone message with the MNR and a number to call, but three days later had not heard a thing.

  5. I love fishing new water !!! I try to fish new lakes everyear find structure and start there like points islands bays dropoffs it's pretty easy acually cruise the lake or shoreline look for bouys or shoals marked with jugs !!!! It's always a challenge sure maps are nice but you don't need them watch your graph and look for stuff !!! Even the lay of the land around the lake can give off clues as to what it might be like under the surface !!!! Pay attention to the details it's that easy
  6. Same old same old over harvesting it's happening more & more everywhere
  7. Well i went walleye fishing in Haliburton yesterday and I almost always 99% of the time catch a musky in this lake everytime I walleye fish it !!!! Well I not only got skunked on walleyes I got skunked on musky as well !!!! Brutal day on 2 species .... And the few musky guys we talked to caught nothing either !!!! Very slow painful day !!!!
  8. That's bad news for sure !! He won't last long in that lake at that temp !! He probably fell overboard by the sounds of it ?? Hope the outcome is not what it appears
  9. Yup I start fishing senko rigs both wacky & Texas rigged right away when season opens pretty much .... Can't ever go wrong with properly presented wacky rigged senko !!!!! ??
  10. I will just be walleye fishing as usual and will catch my opening day Muskie that way !!!! Lol .. It usually never fails ... And if course in a few weeks when bass opens here in FMZ17 that usually produces a ski or 2 !!!! Lol
  11. Yes turtle I agree as well as running a longer line when you make S turns your core will rise up & down and triggers strikes for lakers I never troll in a straight line either always doing big & small loops & turns !!!! I really like using my leadcore as well !!!! Like you said it just plain works !! While I was walleye fishing last weekend in Haliburton I did catch a laker while trolling a worm harness in about 25ft !!!!! Marked lots in that depth as well so it was nice to find out there was lakers mixed in with walleyes at that same depth ! Fish-on
  12. Well they are spreading throughout the kawarthas and it is possible for sure !!! There are now pike being caught in places they were not 10yrs ago totally possible

  14. It will only mean more nets will be on the lake and like the above post says until the issues are fixed it's just a day late & a dollar short !!!!
  15. Like Craig Ritchie says back in the day fishing the warm water outflow at the Pickering nuke plant by boat we would catch a 100 a day !!! Some days you would have to leave as you could not catch anything else !!!! They were in that thick !!! Also Oshawa harbor and port D they would keep you busy for hours !!! They were fun to catch
  16. It's a hush hush thing in the Canadian medical community as it's very expensive to treat and to detect Lyme disease and it's wrong as doctors are being told not to diagnose it !!! There is a huge cover up going on and even a book about how bad it really is !!!! It affects way more people than they tell us !!!
  17. This seems like an add for google ? Can you explain a little more about it ? I had a look at the questions and just want to know more about it what kind of app?
  18. If you think you see it call the invasive species hotline right away they will respond !!!! It's nasty stuff and keep pets clear of it as well !!!
  19. They are on the lookout for it here in cottage country in the kawarthas as well and have asked all the farmers for their help and to look through there fields and land for it too !!! There was a fisheries truck here a week ago and they were walking in the swamp near Emily creek and might have been looking for it here as well as doing their annual turtle counts and stuff
  20. I guess irishfield beat me to it !!! Lol
  21. If it's a car topper 12 foot the transom & sides will be lower than a deep v 12 footer you don't want it to get swamped from the transom by having too big or heavy of a motor on it ?? Just sayin as I have seen it happen before
  22. Nice vid and nice fish !!! Too bad about being harassed by those clowns !!!!
  23. Awesome I was reading that same article today on fb !!!!! So cool ?
  24. Deseronto bay of quinte back in the 80's when you had to get in the launch ramp line up at about 3:00am to be in the water by 6:00am and the clowns that would get to the ramp then decide to load their boat in a drunken stupor !!!! And tie up the ramp for 45mins !!!!! Oh yes seen my share of idiots over the years !!!! As well as the guy that had 2 stringers of walleye about 18 over the limit which were promptly released back into the river by a guy as well as his chair & cooler & tackle !!! Oh and don't even get me started about the sailboats on Lake Ontario who think they can just cut 20ft behind your boat while you have a 6 rod spread and 500 feet of copper and 2 planner boards out !!! With 600 square miles of open lake 10 miles from shore !!!!! Oh ya blood is boing just thinking about it !!!! Every charter boat guy & hardcore lake O fisherman has had it happen as well .... Yup lots of fun times Lol ....
