Ron is right, they are Oldsquaws (long tail ducks), except the one on the right is a Drake, and the one on the left is a hen or juvinile. Tough ducks they are, and can dive up to ~300ft!! They are seaducks. Sinker

Man is that water ever low there!! Nice fish though.... Sinker

Lew, that was a great read. I would say that all of your family that you've lost would want you to be at quinte every spring, until you can no longer make the trip. Keep those memories alive. I'm sure it would be tough, but I also know they would all be there with you in some way, shape or form. Sinker

The only time I use line lighter than 12lb test on a baitcaster is for icefishing. If your gonna use light line, use a spinning reel, you'll thank me later Sinker

Well, who knows, sometimes things happen and ya just can't make it. I like to look on the birght side of things.......but.....there's always a dark side too The question is.......did you catch anything? Sinker

Yup, spend the $ on habitat restoration. That's where the problems started, and thats where the cure will be found!! We'll just have to wait and see what happens on simcoe. I'm sure they'll grow big, but will they reproduce?? Habitat is the key......same with the atlantics......they need habitat to reproduce......spend the $ on habitat if you want a viable resource. Ya, sounds like the guy didn't use a bonding agent before he put the mortar down on the concrete. If not, the water will get under it, and when you get frost, it will crack and break free from the concrete. Home depot sells it, its called acrlyli bond. Just brush it on with a paint brush, and your mortar will stick for good. I've used it a fair bit myself with no problems yet. Sinker

This is the only pic I have of mine...... 16ft WB Starcraft, 40 mariner tiller, 55 lb Minn kota PD, Lowrance X-97. Its more for duck hunting, but its a great fishing boat as well. In the water from ice out until its too thick to break thru. Thats Me and Jigger riding in it. Sinker

I don't know about your area, but if you posted it for sale on some hunting forums, you'd prolly get a bite.......... I can give you a few numbers for my area, but not sure that will help you much? Sinker

You can if it is damaging your property, or putting your safety at risk. Its your right to protect your property.... I'll save my opinion on this one. I'd like to hear the farmers side of the story......but of course we won't hear about that! Just the poor doggies........maybe they were ripping up his livestock? Sinker

The only advice I can offer is to get a 40HP. Never mind the 30.....go big now, or pay later......?? i have a 40 2 stroke on my 16ft deep and wide. It handles beautiful, and is great on gas. I can go 33 miles wide open on 25 liters of fuel. Honestly, in a motor that size....fuel isn't really an issue. I can go all weekend long and still have fuel left over from a full tank. I think mine is wider than the SSV.....it has a load capacity of 1285lbs, including engine, trolling motor, and 2 batteries. If I remember right, its 800lbs or 6 people. I've had 1800lbs of steel roofing, and 3 guys in it.....we didnt go far, but we didnt' sink either... Get the max HP.......its worth it!! I had a 25 suzuki on it before, and when I put on the 40 it was like a whole different boat!! EDIT: Forgot to mention......I'd take the merc 2 stroke if it was my only options. Sinker

I've had no luck on the dawgs yet either......they look good though......just not to the fish I guess. Sinker

I like the 2" fin-s minnows, as well as what was already mentioned. The berkely power minnows are good too.....same size. Sinker

Make sure you really check over the connections. If the light goes out when you rev it up, that tells me there is a loose connection somewhere, and its only working when the alternator is making peak power. I would say its your alternator though, your battery sounds fine, and the light wouldn't come on if your battery was dying. Your old battery might still be good too....did you have it checked? If you had it checked and it was bad, that's prolly what fried your alternator. CTC will test the battery and alternator for free! Sinker

Heres a few from the Northern Peninsula. Moose on my Grandfathers rd. Icebergs... This is how we jig fish down there......almost like a huge swedish pimple. Just drop it to bottom, and start jigging it by hand. The line is 300lb mono.....and its hard on the hands after hauling up a few hundred pounds of fish!! This is how we used to do it before the fishing stopped. These are gill nets, but we mostly had cod traps. We had 2 types, a common cod trap, a box shaped trap.....same principle as a minnow trap.....fish go in and can't get out. The other is a japanese trap. Its like a big bag....with a drawstring. Get to the trap and pull the drawsting tight, and the fish were trapped inside. We'd haul the traps 3 times a day, and have anywhere from 3-8000lbs of fish per haul.....talk about hard work!! This is a shot of my families homestead. My father, and his 13 brothers and sisters were all born in this house......my great grandmother was the midwife for the area. She delivered over 1000 babies in her time... Heres my Grandfather re-building his wharf. This was summer '06 Heres the finished product, with his boat tied up. Every peice of lumber was hauled out of the woods by skidoo, then run through our sawmill into boards. Pop is a real trooper.....at 84....he'd run most guys around here to the ground without blinking an eye!! Now I'm really homesick. I havent' been back for almost 10 years!! I'd give my left nut for a whiff of that salty air right now!! Hope you enjoy, Sinker

Don't wait until it gets too cold Misfish. Its starting to get good now. We shot all new birds today, so they're coming. Anytime now and we'll be in full migration. Just shoot me a date and I'll see if I can work it in. Sinker

Well, welcome to the world of boat ownership! Remember, BOAT = Break out another thousand...... Not so true in your case I don't think, but upgrades and toys never seem to end!! You guys thought you were addicted to fishing? It has only just begun!! Have fun in the new toy......remember to be safe out there. If you need any help or advice, don't be afraid to ask, I live just north of you, and have had boats my whole life. Sinker
