I think you have your answer, but, yes...bowmanville and port hope are fish ladders. They're both great spots for kids too......I took mine down to bowmanville last night actually. There aren't many fish in yet, so wait a while before you head out. We didn't see any in the river itself, but saw a couple fish surface in the pool below the dam. The water is soooo low, I don't know how they're gonna get up the river this year!! I'll PM you some directions if you need them. Sinker

The only reason they would have results so soon on water, is they can get the results within a day or two. In order to culture bacteria.......it takes time......and lots of different tests......more time.....different temps......different moisture content.....many variables......lots of time is the bottome line. I honestly don't think the MNR know what happened. I know some people who would have gotten results firsthand from the MNR, and they know as much as all of us do. Whatever it was, it hasn't effected any other fish populations as far as I can see. This summer has been a great one for walleyes and musky on all the infected lakes that I've fished......so really.....its not hurting anyone/thing. The carp needed to be thinned out a bit, and there's still lots of them around.....I see them all the time. Sinker

LOL....thanks for the reply....and the laugh!! I think I can handle not unhooking the boat if it makes it that much easier to get back on again. I need to replace my winch as it is, from wrassling the boat back on. Either that, or get a drive on trailer...... Sinker

Van and Truck world in oshawa should be able to help you out. Jenson trailers as well on bloor....If you want to go as far as the 115, there are a couple places there that will do it. Can't think of the names for some reason though.....

Thanks for posting those!! How far up the peninsula did you make it? I'm from the very northern tip. Your not kidding, it is absolutely beautiful country, and the people are second to none!! Thanks again! Sinker

I wouldn't get my hopes up about anything the "Ministry of NO RESULTS" says.......

Any of the east tribs with a fish ladder are good.........just need the fish to go up the rivers! Bowmanville has a good one, and usually gets a good run. Port Hope is a nice spot as well. I'm of no help anywhere but the east end. Sinker

Those gliders look interesting. Are they that slick, that when you lanch, you risk your boat sliding off the trailer on the way in.....if its all unhooked? Sure look good for putting it back on, but when I launch I like to unhook everything before and let the boat glide off the trailer........just how slippery are they? Thanks for the report, Sinker

I'm with Lew.....I feel there are more fish down there than we all think....so if they're not biting....you have to switch it up. I don't like it to be too windy though....say more than 25k.... Sinker

Its coming down in buckets here......

Keep at it.....they'll be there soon enough. Sinker

I'd recomend you stick to the west side of the lake.....they're calling for some crappy weather to be fishing simcoe tomorrow. Unfortunatly, I don't know the west side of the lake at all.... Sinker

Sturgeon Lake - Any Update on Carp Die-off?
Sinker replied to Golfisher's topic in General Discussion
Fishing on sturgeon has been great all summer. Lots of eyes and the musky are really getting going the last few weeks. No idea about bass.....I only catch them by accident. No more dead carp either.... Sinker -
I have had good luck on the north side of the causeway on scugog.....but on the east side of the lake. Between #57 and island rd. There is a nice spot to throw a canoe in, and it would take a hard wind to make it rough enough in there to be worried in a canoe. Tons of bass....some musky....and I've caught a few walleyes in there incidentally. The river in lindsay is a decent spot too as long as there isn't too many boats going thru. You could launch at lunge haven right at the mouth of scugog river going into sturgeon, and fish all of goose bay with no problems. Same fish...bass/musky/maybe walleyes. Emily Creek is another good spot for canoeing.....between lindsay and bobcaygeon. If the lake isn't rough its not far to get to the weed edge for good fish. Just launch off #36 and work your way to the lake. I could go on and on.....but those should keep you busy. If you want more spots, shoot me a pm......I spent years fishing this area from a canoe! Just saw this post now guys.....too bad... Next time your headed to sturg.....pm me.....I dock my boat at snug harbour, and fish there at least twice a week. All last week the fishing was really hot, but it seems like it died over the weekend. And yes.....sturgeon can get very rough. I've had some pretty hairy rides across the "Sturgeon Triangle" a number of times. There is always a good wind blowing across that part of the lake.....any direction will throw it into a death trap. If any of you's are launching out of snug, shoot me a pm and maybe we can hook up to share some info.....I fish there all the time. Sinker

Those videos are great!! Looks like a great time up there......hard to beat times like that with the family. I'm sure lots of memories were made there for sure! Thanks for the report! Sinker

I don't trust my power guage on my power drive one bit. I know my batteries are good.....tested them.....and sometimes the guage on the TM says full.....sometimes it says good.....sometimes it says low......so who knows..... Its worth it to get them load tested though.......its free.........then you'll know for sure. Sinker

Have you eaten many? I've tried it and I think its not bad....if you like fish that is. I wouldn't keep one unless I had to though.......which is pretty much never....only because I prefer smaller fish for the table. Nice job on the fish dtm....keep whatever is legal to keep......its your right!!! Thanks for the report. Sinker
-
I've never fished there.....and I"m sure someone who fishes the area will chime in sooner or later, but I catch most of my perch on minnows.....or worms. Good luck, perch are usually willing to bite. Sinker

Nice report......I've only ever fished Silent Lake thru the ice.....winter camping. Your right on the snake.....its a milk for sure. All snakes can swim, and will hit the water if they are frightened.....milk snakes aren't as common as they used to be, so count yourself as being pretty lucky to run into one on the water like that! Very cool stuff! Sinker
