Yep, ling are one of the only fish that spawn under the ice. Mid march till ice out, they gather for the spawn. Best luck for me is always at dusk and into dark. A big minnow on a glow jighead is all you need. S.

Yep, good times Salty. Seems to be a thing of the past nowadays. Not many people doing it anymore. I just enjoy the time outdoors, and my son likes it too. People ask me all the time if its really "worth" it, and my reply is its priceless. Its not about how much syrup you make, or how much it costs to make it, its about spending time outdoors with family and friends, when most people are deep in cabin fever S.

Yes, I've been running a proper evaporator and finisher at work for a few years now, so doing it as a hobby at home is a lot longer process. Been boiling down 5 gallons at a time, takes me roughly 6 hours, and I'm getting one mason jar (500ml) each time. The first run sap is certainly the best. Almost looks like honey its so light. Planning a much bigger boil over the mmarch break. The kids will have a fun day of it anyways. This snow isn't making it any easier to collect, but adds to the adventure, and keeps me in shape! S.

Ya, I wouldn't call that trickery either. That's what they do. They do the same on the water with a spotting scope. Best to play by the rules and answer questions honestly. They will "trick" you every time! S.

Anyone here do this? What's your set up? Any secrets you want to share? I'm just doing this as a hobby....just something to do around the house. I have 32 buckets out, and just boil in a big pot on a propane burner. I'm kinda learning. As I go, but I'm enjoying my time in the woods, and my son seems to like helping out with the work, so its all good. Tried last year, but the run was a weird one, so it didn't pan out like I'd hoped. So far. This year, things are normal. Collected about 20 gallons of sap last week, and made about 2 litres of syrup so far. This week should be a good run if the forcast is right. So, who's into this stuff? Anyone have a proper boiling pan they want to part with, or lend out? I will supply the sap and do the work of course S.

How do you know the dog was with the CO? I have had the fish sniffing dogs go thru our gear on lake jow before. S.

A month free is all you need to see every episode they have. After about 2 weeks they're all re-runs anyways. I don't subscribe, but I do watch it non stop when its free S.

The guys who are saying they don't need Winter tires haven't had them. Its like an atv in deep snow. It will go thru it. Take the same atv, and add tracks. Total control. I don't NEED them either. Never caused an accident, or gone off the road all my life, but it sure makes driving nicer when the roads are messy. S.

I have an AWD vehicle. And every november I put on the winter tires....every april I put on the all seasons. You guys who don't use them are missing the boat. They are the cats meow on days like today! You probably pay more for two sets of all seasons than you do for a set of all seasons, and a set of winters, plus you get the safety factor in the winter. I love pulling up beside a guy stuck on a hill with all seasons, stopping beside, and offering assistance. Then when they say no, I slowly drive away without even spinning a wheel They're worth it. Period. S.

That's not usually the case Lew. Gagnons is usually a little bit more for everything. S.

Nobody has stopped us from setting foot on the island yet. I go there every chance I get. S.

I will never have carpet in a boat again if I have the choice. Can't stand it. All it does is hold dirt and water. Vinyl all the way for me! S.

Well, I feel good reading this. I found my way to youur house on my first try, no gps, and no cell phone required lol. I drove by twice yesterday. The roads were a lot worse just north of you. I thought about stopping in, but didn't want to be a bother S.

Suzuki Outboards...Opinions? and Polar Boats
Sinker replied to Rattletrap2's topic in General Discussion
Stick with the starcraft and you will be a happy camper! I don't know anything about polar crafts, but I do know you won't find any unhappy starcraft owners. S. -
We always called the machine the "boggan"

Rust sucks! I hang all my gear after using it, and all my tackle trays sit open in the garage. I'm tired of wasting big money on tackle, only to let it rust. I also replace most of my hooks with red ones, they don't rust. S.

Smokercraft Ultima 172 or Princecraft 172 WS?
Sinker replied to Bigfisherman's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't hesitate for a second with the smokercraft. Great, well built boats. Princecrafts are also liked by many, but your only paying for the name IMO. S. -

I had an 89 25hp tiller suzie. Great motor, possibly the best one I ever owned. The guy I sold it to still uses it and she runs like a top. It would blow away most 25hp tilers, and took a beating in the duck marshes. I kinda regret selling it. S. -
Its cheaper to take the chance and drive with no sticker. I drove a full year 2 years ago, and didn't even know it lol. Never got stopped either, and I was supposed to do an emissions test that year too. I have to do the new system this year, and my CEL is always on, so I might just try it again! S.

-
They rarely get stuck, but Yeah, when they do, light them on fire. Lol We have an 84 and 85. I'm Still beat from packing the snow we got last Week on them. S.

I was on earlier and set my theme to mobile. Just came back, didn't log out, and I still have to manually reset it to mobile. Its driving me nuts. A lot of times I just close it up if its the wrong theme. What's up with that?? S.

Yep, that's an early 80's Alpine for sure. I can see the pic now. S.

Actually conditions on quinte aren't too bad. A lot of the snow. Was knocked down, some slush made its way to the surface and refroze. I was there on wed and it was easy walking and dragging my clam. Any snow that's left is hard, and the bare spots are slippery. I was wishing I had my cleats. S.
