  1. It wouldn't be too hard to haul those tanks across the ice, Lew. I could use one of those for a maple sap boiler....I might have to go take a look before the ice goes out lol S.
  2. Your better to take advantage of it while we have it, than to gripe about it. This is the best and safest ice we will have all season. A bit of snow will just clean things up nicely. I'm loving it! s.
  3. We used to camp on the islands as well. Some nice sites. We also wwinter camped up there a couple times. Its. Gotta be 10 or more years since I've been up tha way tho, so I'm not really sure what the fishing is like these days. Nice country though. S.
  4. Sounds like their passing resources off to me. They don't do squat as it is. S.
  5. We used to spend a week there every march. Icefishing was fantastic for lakers, and walleye. Even the odd pike. I haven't been up there for years though. We were the first people to ever stay at Brooks cottages in the winter. We used to stay at a local motel for the week, then convinced the guys at brooks that they should open up thier cabins for the winter. So, the next winter, they called us and said they had winterized a cabin for us. We went there for 4-5 years, they included an ice hut with the cabin rental. The people at Brooks were great, but since then, they've opened up all thier cottages, and it was starting to get a little busy for us. I've been up there in the summer too. Caught some big pike. My brother caught a 41" er off the dock one morning lol. Good spot, nice area, lots of lakes to choose from too. S.
  6. Is this the one near port loring?
  7. My go to is a gold beade headed wooly bugger. A lot of times I troll it 18" behind a spinner. S.
  8. We're froze solid here too. Sucks! S.
  9. That's a great haul! S.
  10. Geeze, you guys need to hit the hardwater! If your just sitting waiting, your seriously missing out on some awesomme fishing opportunities!! S.
  11. You mean you guys take your foil hats off?? Crazy!! S.
  12. Thursday everything froze up here, but still got a little bit in. Its running good again today. I'm hoping to have at least 100 litres by tues/wed so I can boil again S.
  13. Oh, BillM, check the township by laws regarding cats. You may be surprised. I just did a quick look for barrie, and its illegal to let cats run at large. Give it a read, some good things to know in there. S.
  14. Yeah, you can't let your cats roam free in this township. A lot of rural people I know fix them real quick too. Dogs should be leashed too. I don't leash my dog on my property, and a lot of the time when we're walking, but I have his leash, and he will come to me when he's called. I'm pretty rural though. If I was in town he'd be leashed always. Its not him I worry about, its some other dumbass's dog that scares me!.......or. A doe with a fawn I guess lol S.
  15. Great report Drew. That video was cool. Good stuff! S.
  16. Ya, bottom line is you need to find room for that second battery. Even two smaller batteries will make a big improvement. I can't wait for my TM to crap out so I can upgrade to a 24V. I already have the two batteries on board, but can't justify the cost of a new TM, when mine works great 99% of the time. I might have to look into a different prop for mine to get more speed, most of my fishing is open water trolling, and I'm running a weedless wedge on mine. My electric will get me up to about 2.1mph, and my main will only run as low as 2.5mph, so there is a little spot in there that Im missing out on, that I need some days S.
  17. We got an inchor so of snow here. Its gonna be cold for the next few days. Real cold at night. Should tighten up the lakes real good lovin' it! .
  18. Collected from 21 taps today, got 40 litres. My neighbour is collecting the other 20. He should have about the same. It was running great today. Might be too cold the next couple days to run, but we'll see. I'll just have to fish more. How'd u make out with the first boil, TJ? S.
  19. Bring it on! I love it!! S.
  20. The two motor guides I've had sucked balls in weeds. They would just attract them. Constantly lifting it out to clear it of weeds. I hated them both. I don't think I've ever had weeds around the prop of my minn kota's. They will gather on the shaft, but the prop spins them off like they're not even there. I think you will notice a big difference between brands, especially if your MG is a few years old.
  21. The problem with buying quality outer wear for kids is they grow out of it in a season. My kids are in snowboard outerwear. A lot of it is waterproof/breathable, and easy to sell once its too small. West 49 and boathouse are where we get most of it. S.
  22. Why can't u go 24v? Is it just lack of power, or battery life you need? I've never like MG trolling motors. Had a couple, and they don't compare to a minn kota IMO. I run a 12v set up with 2 batts on my 16fter, and could use more power on some windy days, but for the most part I'm happy. What size boat are we talking here? S.
  23. I can't see pics, will check them out later. Its running hard here again. Today. It got just cold enough to interupt, and now its moving again. I have everything cleaned, and ready to rock. I even picked up another 55gal drum for storing S.
  24. If my old man was up here in ontario, he would surely be making some kind of booze out of it too lol. Here's my harvest so far, minus 2.5l that I was forced to give to my mom, and a couple good friends. Honestly, that is more than I will ever use in a year, but I still want more. I would never sell it either, its impossible to put a price on it. The whiskey is on its last legs, but still a bit left. We ate way too much, but it was way too good to stop eating. S.
  25. I knew this syrup was going to be a great bartering tool, but never in my wildest dreams would I think someone would give away such a honey hole for one bottle!! That said, I'm not sure I can part with any just yet. I'm a bit of a hoarder. I make the stuff, and dole it out like its the finest whiskey money can buy lol Let's see how much I get, then I will decide. What area of the world. Is this honey hole anyways? I have about 3/4 of a 30l pot boiling now. I'm expecting right around 2 litres of syrup. Started at 10am, and put about 80-90 litres thru my boilers. Its getting a little quicker, but still takes. A long time. Killed a few beers, and just started into a bottle of gibsons finest....added a shot of syrup to that too.....just because. My brother is on his way over for a feed of fresh cod we brought back from nfld, and caught ourselves, along with an appetizer. Of "tongues and britches" to get the appetite going. I'd say that bottle of whiskey is going to take a beating taking the kids perchin in the morning, right after french toast, made with home made bread, and fresh maple syrup! Life is good I'll take a pic of the finished product later. S.
