  1. Got a surprise message. Heading to Great Bear Lake. Been told they have Grayling. Any chance you could tie up some last minute bead head flys ? He sent me a post from the Outfitter on what was a common tie for up there. I came up with some variant beaded Nats and Hares ears which were on the list, but he was happy with the out come and I sent them off to him this morning. Looking forward to pics when he returns. I,ll be on the local streams Friday, fishing for browns.

  2. Great idea...you want a filter with a minimum rating of MERV 13 to capture smoke particulate. Also, if the label says " electrostatic" that helps too. Switching your return/drop from a 1" filter to a 5" thick media filter provides much better air quality, and can be done relatively inexpensively. Installing a UV light on your supply duct will also help. Ultimately, you can install a HEPA system, but that can get pricey, however OHIP will pay for it if you have medically documented breathing issues. I wouldn't spend a penny on a "room filter". Now retired after over 40 years in HVAC...who knew I would be giving advice on a fishing forum...

  3. Black Gnat is my favorite, especially for Brown Trout and Grayling.

  4. I'm surprised he wasn't looking for any dry flies....Grayling readily sip bugs from the surface, and of course so much fun watching them inhale it. A Black Gnat is a "go to" up north of 60.. Nice work on the bead heads !

  5. Pretty smoky so I picked up a furnace filter for smoke and am leaving the furnace on. I hope that helps. cheaper then buying a room filter.

  6. I heard on the news last night that the province of Quebec is at the point where they have to decide who gets fire assistance and who they have to let burn. Abitibi has been chosen as a priority for the province and a little hamlet called Clova has been left to mother nature. Clova is the jump off point for Air Tamarac, https://tamarac.ca. I was there about four years ago, the 300 km logging road in was a grind, but the facilities and fishing was fantastic. It is a family run business and I am hoping that the fire misses them as it would devastate them. Good thoughts to the folks in Clova! HH

  8. I’m gonna let you in on something I learned from experience. It requires discipline but I can promise you it works. 6 years ago…(wow I can’t believe it’s been that long) I was freshly separated from my ex fiancée and I needed to purchase a knife set. Knowing how much I hated dull knives I set out to purchase a set and selected a set of mediocre Henkels from Canadian tire. I think one step above the bottom brand, nothing fancy but they were on sale. Being a bachelor and having bought an apartment that I was now funding entirely myself I made a vow to take care of my knives as best as I could. 6 years later, my knives are as sharp as the day I bought them and the reason why is simple, 1. never cut a single thing on anything other than a wood cutting board. (Chicken being the only exception, use a plastic cutting board, don’t ever use those stupid ceramic ones) 2. hand wash your knives with a brush and soap 3. Never put your knives in the sink. that’s it. When I notice they seem to be getting more dull than razor sharp, i hone them, and they immediately go back to like new. I swear to god my knives 6 years later are dangerously sharp.

  10. Much to my surprise the Yamaha F30 and 40 have a gas water separator with alarm built in at the rear of the motor. I thought it was just a filter.

  12. PM Jason Meyer on this forum, he has a few lakes to choose from. I can say without question if you're up for it, the Albany River (he had 2 locations, not sure if that's still the case, 1 is for sure though) is absolutely worth the trip. They fly out of Nakina
