Made the first trip over to camp a couple days ago. Going across Fish Bay was ok as a few folks I know have been crossing it recently but no one had been any further. Wanting to spend a few days out here to light a fire, relax and watch the world Juniors I loaded up the old bike and an ice chisel to check things out. As I entered the opening to Hunters Bay I stopped and walked a few yards and chiseled out a hole. A little over 4”, still good to go. A few yards more and it went to 3 1/2”. Uggh. At 3” I just about turned around but treaded carefully a few feet more and got back to 4”. This went on for another 500 yards and then progressed to over 6”. it took a couple hours to go a mile but I made it safely to achieve the goal. It’s very important to check ice thickness every few feet as it can vary greatly due to snow cover and underwater currents, especially around islands and shoals.

Gotta watch who you let fly them.....

More vaccine choices the better IMO. We can all better decide based on side effect issues which may arise. I hope little to none, but we should keep ears to the ground.

I used to think that #16 hooks were VERY small for whities and steelhead, but they did catch fish. On 2 lb Berkley Trimax line, that was good stuff. Don't think I could tie them on to my line any more with these old eyes though.............and a number 22???????????Yikes!!! Doug

Big time spot name'er here. Connies hole. 40 run. Little Ti++ie island. Narrows. ( it has nothing to do with narrows) K bay. Its about 150km north of simcoe. Myself and 3 buddies have 100s of names for the spots we would go.

There is no question that the year has been difficult. Everyday we wake up and face life a little differently than we did before, and that is surely a stress for many... No matter where each person stands in their beliefs to Covid, also be aware of another contagion which seemingly troubles more and more people. It is called intolerance. It is an illness born in moments of stress, anxiety, fear, helplessness or hopelessness, and is often one's self-defence in their attempts to ward off personal despair or misunderstanding. We can honestly say that many days this past year have bothered us all, considering this moving forward, we just might find a better acceptance and some easier answers if we remain empathetic for each other. Best wishes for a happy and hopeful, healthy holiday season. Worry less in the moment about how much to give or how many to give to, and take on the Christmas spirit of simply giving and sharing the best of what you can and who you are.

Well you made me do this John,and I have to say,#22,s are not easy,and I know I am no a pro, but I do believe in,no insect is the same.LOL . Eyes were going cross after 25 of them. Added colored tails as hot spots. Will find out in the spring,if I can tie them to my line .LOL On to smaller #,s once I get uncrossed. LOL The last couple of days creations,,,,,,,,,,,, Working on the deer/elk hair fly's and submerges .Need to get the proportion parts down on the hair. I think a big hungry brown will hit them still .

Good read. I am not a spot-namer, but a lure namer. Others in my boat end up end up doing the same. You might hear lures by the name of Lady Gaga, Tinseltown, Squidward, Big Blackie, Blondie, Mighty Whitie, to name a few if on board with me

I am still a newbie to this fly fishing Paul. John said to go small last spring, #18.l can not believe these fish can see those, but they are on them, like I am on a pizza with anchovies. Thanks Ray I will keep an eye on their restocking .
