  1. Written from an American perspective but most applies here: "For a small amount of perspective at this moment, imagine you were born in 1900. On your 14th birthday, World War I starts, and ends on your 18th birthday. 22 million people perish in that war. Later in the year, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs until your 20th birthday. 50 million people die from it in those two years. Yes, 50 million. On your 29th birthday, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, the World GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. The country nearly collapses along with the world economy. When you turn 39, World War II starts. You aren’t even over the hill yet. And don’t try to catch your breath. On your 41st birthday, the United States is fully pulled into WWII. Between your 39th and 45th birthday, 75 million people perish in the war. Smallpox was epidemic until you were in your 40’s, as it killed 300 million people during your lifetime. At 50, the Korean War starts. 5 million perish. From your birth, until you are 55 you dealt with the fear of Polio epidemics each summer. You experience friends and family contracting polio and being paralyzed and/or die. At 55 the Vietnam War begins and doesn’t end for 20 years. 4 million people perish in that conflict. During the Cold War, you lived each day with the fear of nuclear annihilation. On your 62nd birthday you have the Cuban Missile Crisis, a tipping point in the Cold War. Life on our planet, as we know it, almost ended. When you turn 75, the Vietnam War finally ends. Think of everyone on the planet born in 1900. How did they endure all of that? When you were a kid in 1985 and didn’t think your 85 year old grandparent understood how hard school was. And how mean that kid in your class was. Yet they survived through everything listed above. Perspective is an amazing art. Refined and enlightening as time goes on. Let’s try and keep things in perspective. Your parents and/or grandparents were called to endure all of the above and ......YOU ARE CALLED TO STAY HOME AND SIT ON YOUR COUCH"

  2. Hi all, finished the dock I started last year. Used some ‘Z’ purling from the dump, an old I beam joist my neighbour gave me and my neighbours help and expertise. With wood, tool hire and some dock hardware I’ve ordered, a 32’ x 8’ dock cost me just under $1000, I’m pretty pleased with the results. We used ready rod to fix the beam to an exposed rock, which happened to be perfectly placed because it’s right where I launch the boat from the lawn. I built a shore crib to anchor at the other end. A few more holes drilled in the rock towards the centre of the dock with ready rod dropped in provided extra support. Two days after completion the ice had left our bay enough to cast for pike. Last year my son Jack was beside himself with grief because the rock that was now going to be covered had always been know to us as “Secret Island” since he was a little over a year old. I tried consoling him with how cool a dock would be, but despite his brave face I knew he was not convinced. Fast forward a year and he’s convinced... lol.... he fished the whole day down there one day, he will usually fish for a maximum 10 minutes, I’ll take it while it lasts!

  4. It’s a late spring again so no rush. I have my own ramp and was out for short while a week ago when it was nice out. Lake was nice and quiet. Nice to see the return or the Loons getting ready to nest. As an avid angler I was humbled by the experience and realized that we need to slow down and not be so spoiled and impatient. I now feel that our lakes are much too busy with boaters and anglers anyway. Stop and smell the air and Just listen. What a beautiful country we have and we should be more appreciative for what we are so fortunate to be a part of.

  5. I'll lose sleep over important things, not being able to fish while a pandemic plays out isn't one of them.

  11. What are we going to protest against? The fact boat ramps are closed? Bigger things in life to lose sleep over.

  12. Because we are smart enough to know that a boat ramp is less important than the lives of our fellow Canadians and the safety of our healthcare workers. it sucks but we are putting faith in those that make the decisions are doing so in our best interest. boat ramps will re-open...when it is safe to do so which sounds like it will be soon.

  13. Hey guys now that this thread's gone off the rails (not a bad thing); try hydroponics; no matter what scale (size of system) you use; it works great. I made up a system last year and couldn't believe the yield I got. Strawberries, lettuce, cabbage and peppers. Not sure what I'm putting in this year? It's easy just change the nutrients (Fertilizer) every other week and your done. No weeding, no bugs (cut worms to kill your veg) just watch for Afedes; a spray of dish washing soup and water will take care of them. These systems would be great for an apartment baloney, Build to size of space; very versatile. I have (or hopefully will have again) a summer trailer and they do not allow gardens. Don't want the lots to get dug up; I guess? That's why I built this hydroponic garden. We couldn't eat the stuff as fast as it grew; so it became my neighbors veggie stand. Take what you want/need but leave me some. LOL Dan.
