  4. Like the gentleman said Rice Lake was always good for walleye but haven't been for years either. Used to fish Sturgeon Lake but the last time there it was terrible. Been told people come up from the GTA and keep everything they catch no matter what the size. Also they have a ban on Lake Scugog for walleye because they are trying to bring the population back up. Good Luck It is a beautiful area and make sure and get some Kawartha Lakes icecream. YUM! YUM!
  5. I have fished in the Timmins area the last week of May and first week of June and it has always been great. Sunny but cool so no problem with flies. Make sure and check the fishing regulations cause I think (don't quote me) walleye season doesn't start till the last week of May. Fishing is always fantastic.
  6. The reason I live where I do CrowMan, it's beautiful around here.
  7. Stoney has always been my favourite for Walleye in the Kawarthas. Lots of structure and some good current areas. And if they're not biting, the scenery's nice...
  8. I have hundreds but here just some of the pics I am fondest of. Notice the cub in front of mom. She is on high alert as all mother bears are. The worst thing you can meet and or especially surprise is a mother grizzly with cubs. I can assure you the out come will be in the grizzlies favor.
  9. Howdy Akrisoner, it's been a spell. Unless you have been around bears as much as I have it can be difficult to tell the difference. The way I put it is if you see a black bear, you're not sure if it is a grizzly or a black bear, if you see a grizzly you know it is a grizzly and not a black bear. My wife and I, especially myself have spent decades studying bears especially grizzlies. I was very fortunate to have worked along side bear biologists to tag and weigh etc. grizzlies from helicopter. This is actually a fairly big bear and lacks the very distinctive shoulder hump that grizzlies have even at a young age. It gives them incredibly powerful shoulders and front legs . A grizzly does not have the tall rounded ears of the black bear and also the grizzly has a concave face from it's eyes to the tip of it's nose where as a black bear has a relatively straight face from it's forehead to the tip of it's nose. Colors can vary widely for both bears. Even grizzlies can be from their typical brown color to several different shades of brown to black and white and one never knows where you may come across one, they certainly are not restricted to the mountains. A few years ago a fellow was killed by a grizzly an hours drive north west from the house here, west of Airdrie, and I have seen grizzlies near Hinton. Here's a picture for comparison. I must say I envy your cousin living near Hinton. Beautiful country, that's where I should be living with my outdoor photography and other activities.
  10. Heading up to Quebec in 11 days for some trout.....this will be the 1st time staying at this outfitter. Remote cabin equipped with propane appliances including a hot shower... This place caught my attention a while back because of the multi species.....The Lake our cabin is on has native Arctic Char and Speckled Trout....then they give us an itinerary to fish remote lakes each day we are up there......Arctic Char, Speckies, Rainbows, Browns and 1 lake has walleye. I can hardly wait to get the hell up there!!
  11. The blue stabil is for marine use. The big difference is the blue creates a fog in the tank and keeps it from rusting. I have used it for years from a 28ft boat that lives in the water to all of my small engines. Anything that does not get fresh gas within a month gets treated. I like sea foam as well but use it as a fuel improver rather than a stabilizer. Art
  12. curious barry, given the location, what is helping you distinguish that golden bear as a black from a juvenile grizz? That bear to me looks like a young grizzly, but I know nothing to help me distinguish between the two. I know most folks think the grizz are in the actual mountains, but my cousin has had them on his property near hinton.
  13. personally, id fish the tri-lakes, they had a pretty decent population and spawn of them come through a few years ago. I wouldnt call the fishing for them "excellent" by any means though. Not a lot of places have good walleye fishing anymore.
  14. It was when I fished it 20 some odd years ago... Most of the Kawartha Lakes and rivers have their share of pickerel...
  15. Yes, go to your local stores and ask, but look at Medium power with Fast action 6-6 to 7ft long - go with a spinning rod for now Great combos are often on the market this time of year. Go to YouTube or Google (best combos under 130/150 US ). Daiwa makes great rods.
  16. Primarily a Bass fisherman, but figured I might try my hand at Walleye this spring...any tips on what lakes to try in the Peterborough area? Is Rice Lake any good for Walleye? Thanks
  17. I have been using Startron fuel treatment for years now in all my gas motors......my 150HP Merc, 9.9 Merc ProKicker, generator, woodsplitter, etc.....
  18. 5200 and patch panel with blind rivits is what I did on my duck boat with similar cracks.
  19. Yea I got my first pick of fidleheads in yesterday, just under a pound for now. Back out to check my other spots on Thursday. The ones right up against my foundation are up, that's my signal. Leeks are well up but not swelling yet. This pic is from April 13.
  20. Is there a public boat launch at Maple Lake. I know that there is an access point on North Shore Road near Dawson Road on Municipal land but don't know if you can launch a boat there. please advise.

  22. Hey all, thinking of doing a trip 3rd week of may north of cochrane. just wondering if anyone has had experience that north that early, what is the bite like for walleye and pike thanks
  23. I used the red once, it turned my 2 stroke gas for the ice auger and chain saw into a red jello blob. Never use that crap again. And I'm never going to be the guinea pig for the blue stuff either. Sea Foam, it works, like Franks Hot Sauce for gas.
