Updated my card for 2026 last week. The last time I will have to pay to fish! HH

I'm 3 years away from my old age card. I don't celebrate birthdays anymore. I celebrate 1 year closer to retirement.

Mine just came in the mail.

My son is down visiting and would like to get out ice fishing, he has all his own gear and once Simco is good we'll go out with Tim Hales but in the mean time he would like to get out for other species. He didn't bring his Argo down so he will be walking. I was thinking Scugog for some crappie but have no idea where to start. If anyone would be kind enough to message me some information or if you want some company that would be very much appreciated. He is 55, in good shape, not afraid to do his share and loves to fish. He lives in French River and might be able to reciprocate in kind this summer, he fishes all kinds of back woods lakes for bass, walleye, pike.

Loved my old Simms challenger suit, Thing still beads water where I didnt put holes in it lol. Nik wax at the end of every season. Just ran the new ProDry driftwood through the Georgian Bay gauntlet this season and even more impressed. A good rain suit is worth its weight in gold to keep comfortable on the water. Its done its job repeatedly.

Hey folks, Seems like a good start to the ice season. I know some folks are already hitting cooks, Couch and even Port Bolster. But I will wait til it's more solid before hitting Simcoe. In the meantime, can anyone confirm that there is good ice in Haliburton? I am mostly interested in smaller lakes along the 118 corridor (from Bracebridge to Carnarvon). TY

There have been big nocturnal bucks in this area for decades but they leave the area sometime during the winter to parts unknown to me. I am going to put the drone up in the spring and try and find them and their antlers. Some very impressive antlers that I would love to add to my collection. If I am lucky enough to find them I will definetley post some pics. The one buck has very unusual and unique brow tines which I am surprised are still intact after the rut. But giving the size of him and his rack I don't expect he had much competion.

With a pair of dandy bucks like these I think you might have more than just your friend in your back yard.
-
I thought you were going to say in your freezer, Haha.
-
I guess I better not send that pic to my friend that hunts and tell him it’s in my backyard. lol. 😂

I want one of the bucks in my back yards for xmas.

Pics are crappy as these are pics of videos on pause off the computer monitor. A couple awesome whitetail bucks, one in particular. As usual the computer is acting up so this is only a few of the pics I wanted to post. I haven't tended to the trail cams lately as for the past few weeks the temperature has been in the -20s with a near -40 wind chill and a lot of snow.

To quote TJQ welcome aboard Noah, and Glen, we do like pics. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Hi all, Got everything squared away for Xmas by 2:30pm and decided to get an hour or so on the ice. The whitefish finally showed up, but couldn't get them to bite, was fun at first and then just frustrating. Got a couple of decent walleye for my efforts and was able to sight fish a 30" Pike swiping at my bait 2 feet beneath the hole. Happy Xmas and Tight Lines!

hopefully youre planning on fishing with a flasher, or even better scope? Crappies moreso than almost any other fish i target through the ice need electronics. Once you get on them though, its a really really fun time. Find a mud bottom basin, somewhere that you feel is a big flat in 20-35 fow, look for the suspended schools and keep your bait above em. I love the tiny buckshot spoons tipped with a minnow head. Been a few years since ive fished craps...i miss it

Sad moment to hear that Chris Rea has passed away, one of the most comforting songs for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDt3u2Ev1cI
