Tomcat Posted May 12, 2019 Report Posted May 12, 2019 Can anyone share their experience vertically jigging lake trout with Shimano Butterfly jigs. I will be fishing shield lakes in mid Aug. Recommended jig colours would be a bonus. Thanks in advance.
misfish Posted May 12, 2019 Report Posted May 12, 2019 I had to google search that lure. Never heard of it. I just dead stick and wait for the laker to come chasing, then start reeling when they are with,n 2-3 ft of the bait. That is all I got. Look forward to your report when you return from it Tom.
BillM Posted May 12, 2019 Report Posted May 12, 2019 Don't bother fishing until you've marked them on the graph. White/chartruese anything are my laker go tos.
AKRISONER Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 sebille vibratos catch most of mine, but thats through the ice...drop it on their head and make em chase it.
DRIFTER_016 Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 As Bill says, wait until you mark them and sit right on top and have at er. Haven't used the Shimano jigs but have used other similar ones as well as Buzz Bombs with great success. Best colours are chartreuse, green/white, blue/white. FYI they can be deadly power jigging.
craigdritchie Posted May 14, 2019 Report Posted May 14, 2019 As others have said, mark fish then camp out right on top of them. Just about anything white will work, lakers aren't exactly the smartest fish in the lake. Simple hair jigs usually work as well as anything else. 1
