Stoty Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Since the season is just around the corner and I see that people are already loving the "Leafs" thread.... so it got me thinking. Would any fellow OFC members be interested in a hockey pool? No entry fee, just for fun.... Yahoo! has amazing pools, and I could easily set one up if there's enough interest in it... Maybe even turn it into a competitive keeper pool that continues year to year?
fishindevil Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Sure Jamie !!! Do I win if I predict the leafs will NOT win the cup ?? Lol....lol...lets see a template of what you have in mind??
Stoty Posted September 7, 2013 Author Report Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) The most popular format is the "Head to head" format. You go 1-on-1 against another manager each week and you get a "record" based on how you do against them in the stat categories on that particular week. (great for bragging rights as well) Example 7 categories (goals, assists, +/-, ppp, shots, win, shutouts) Team 1 vs team 2, team 3 vs team 4 Team 1 goes 4-2-1, Team 2 goes 2-4-1 Team 3 goes 5-1-1, Team 4 goes 1-5-1 Pool Standings Team 3 (5-1-1) Team 1 (4-2-1) Team 2 (2-4-1) Team 4 (1-5-1) Records just keep adding up each week. Great pool for active owners. Nice competitive pool where adding/dropping/trading players comes into play and a bad few weeks can kill you. And obviously the more managers and stat categories, the better. Edited September 7, 2013 by Stoty

Stoty Posted September 7, 2013 Author Report Posted September 7, 2013 Wicked! I'll get things started! Would everyone be available for a live online draft as well? What about one evening the week of Sept 23? Typcially takes an hour or so to do.
Stoty Posted September 7, 2013 Author Report Posted September 7, 2013 FYI, everyone will need a yahoo account to sign in with.
Stoty Posted September 8, 2013 Author Report Posted September 8, 2013 For anyone that's interested in joining the pool, please PM me your email address, so I can send you the invite. I have setup the live online draft for Wed, Sept 25 @ 7:30pm.

tb4me Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 im in what the heck..Never been in a hockey pool before.. How does the draft work?
Stoty Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Posted September 13, 2013 Draft This is a LIVE online draft, which means you log into the pool and draft live with all the other owners in the league. Draft will open at 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 25 and will start at 7:30pm, sharp. If you cant make it online for the draft, the computer will automatically select your players based on your “pre-draft rankings”. It will choose the highest ranked player on your list. If all the players on your list have been taken or if you didnt bother editing your "pre-draft rankings", then it will choose the next highest ranked player available based on the rank Yahoo gave them. (When on the pool website, choose the “Draft Central” tab, and choose “Pre-Draft Player Rankings”) Edit this list in the order that you would want players selected. The draft order will be randomly selected by the computer 30 mins prior to the start of the draft. The draft will last a total of 17 rounds. It will be in the “snake” format which means that the draft order is reversed each round to keep things fair. Rd 1 - A, B, C, D, E Rd 2 – E, D, C, B, A Rd 3 – A, B, C, D, E…. and so on. Each team will consist of 17 players, broken down as: C, C, LW, LW, RW, RW, D, D, D, D, G, G, BN, BN, BN, BN, IR BN – “bench” spots, which are your extra players that you can sub in at anytime, they can be any position. IR – “Injured Reserve” If a player on your team gets hurt and is placed on the IR, you can put that player in the IR spot, and you will retain ownership of them, but you’re able to pick up another player to replace the injured one. Please note that during the season ALL OF YOUR ROSTER SPOTS MUST BE FULL. Meaning, you can’t drop a D or G to pickup an extra forward, or visa versa. If at anytime your roster spots aren’t full, I will manually edit your lineup to reverse the last “transaction” you did, to ensure your spots are full. This keeps it fair for everyone. Trades/Adding/Dropping Players Trades are allowed. There is no maximum number of deals you can make throughout the season. The pool is set to “league votes” on all trades. Meaning that before a trade is official/completed, ALL owners have the chance to vote against it if its uneven. Example – Someone wanted to trade “Sidney” Kadri for Sidney Crosby J It takes 1/3 of the total owners in the pool to vote against the trade to be cancelled. Example - 12 total teams – takes 4 “votes” to cancel the trade You can add or drop players from your team at any time. Please note that there has been a limit of 3 “moves” per week. This prevents people from dropping players that aren’t playing in a particular night and picking up guys that do. The only rule about this is that ALL roster positions must be filled at all times. That's how things work in a nutshell. The "help" section of the website is very helpful and explains everything in detail if there's something you dont understand. And of course I'll be available for any questions as well, just shoot me a PM on here or through the pool website.
