scugpg Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/390616-hds-gen2-world-wide-announcement.html This would explain the big rebates at the end of the year. Good to see its getting quicker hardware! LOWRANCE UNVEILS NEW HDS® GEN2 MULTIFUNCTION DISPLAYS Featuring Faster Processing Speed And New StructureMap™ View Lowrance, a world-leading brand in marine electronics since 1957, is pleased to announce the next-generation of the world’s best-selling multifunction displays, the HDS® Gen2 High Definition System. The new HDS Gen2 provides faster processing speed and StructureMap™ view, a powerful, innovative tool that allows users to overlay StructureScan® sonar images on a chart in real-time or to save images and review at leisure. The HDS Gen2 also delivers the many award-winning benefits of the popular HDS fishfinder/charplotter series. The Lowrance HDS Gen2 displays include double the memory and twice the processor speed of first-generation HDS models, providing boaters with enhanced responsiveness, faster start-up, quick menu operation and lightening-fast chart panning and zooming speeds. When paired with the StructureScan Sonar Imaging module, users can activate the StructureMap overlay and view images directly on their charts in real-time. Boaters can also create StructureMap charts of their favourite boating, fishing and diving areas. Compatible with Navionics® cartography and featuring Turboview™ for high-speed seamless zooming and transition between 2D and 3D modes, the HDS Gen2 also provides a built-in recording capability so that users can easily create and view StructureMap detail without the aid of a computer. Greg Konig, Lowrance Product Line Director said: “The new HDS Gen2 delivers the same feature-packed benefits that have made HDS a global-leading multifunction display. “Now, with Gen2’s faster processing speed and the new StructureMap feature, boaters, divers and anglers will be blown away by the speed and amazing views of real-time StructureScan overlay.” All HDS Gen2 models with chartplotter capability feature an internal, high-sensitivity GPS antenna and products with fishfinder capability incorporate the award-winning Broadband Sounder™. Lowrance’s TrackBack™ functionality allows HDS Gen2 users to scroll-back the recorded history of their Broadband Sounder or StructureScan sonar imaging to review structure or fish targets and pinpoint the location with a waypoint. To avoid losing important sonar data, HDS Gen2 continues recording throughout the use of TrackBack to ensure valuable readings are not lost. All HDS Gen2 models feature a SolarMAX™ PLUS display with LED backlighting, for exceptional views in even the brightest sunlight and clear, wide viewing angles. Users can also adjust the screen brightness for low-light conditions. HDS Gen2 models offer an easy-to-use graphic menu system for more convenient access and control of key functions. In addition, HDS-8 and HDS-10 models feature six programmable soft keys for one-button access to the most commonly used menu functions. HDS Gen2 products can be easily networked with a complete line of NMEA 2000 tracking and engine sensors and are compatible with Lowrance’s comprehensive range of innovative marine-electronics, including Broadband 3G™ Radar, the new Broadband 4G™ Radar with beam-sharpening for unprecedented target separation and the SonicHub® marine audio server for integrated access to music stored on an Apple iPod or iPhone. Dan668 Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 So do i get a discounted 8 or buy a gen 2 hds 8 to go with my hds 7, tough decision
scugpg Posted December 7, 2011 Author Report Posted December 7, 2011 So do i get a discounted 8 or buy a gen 2 hds 8 to go with my hds 7, tough decision I'd buy a new one if it were me, the speed improvement alone should be worth it IMO. You never know, maybe the pricing will be good.
craigdritchie Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Good chance that website is going to land in hot water for that. Lowrance has an embargo on that info till December 15. Not sure where they got it from, but someone's getting a letter from the lawyers.
Dan668 Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Bass pro leaked it on their own site and catalogue
Roy Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Craig, BPS has them and the specs on their online catalogue. I saw them there very early this morning.
craigdritchie Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 You know, stuff like this is precisely why I lost any and all respect for the fishing tackle industry. They make you agree to not write about this or that till a specific date, then it's in someone's catalogue a day later. Honestly .... it is an industry that survives in spite of its own best efforts.
kickingfrog Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Someone hit send to all in thier email list? Frustrating I am sure.
Wolf 3 Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 I heard about these new units last Friday. Here is a link with a screen shot. http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=748574
Billy Bob Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 When they make new units that make the fish bite, especially on those very difficult days....then I will buy a new one...
beertech Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 so what basicly do these do over the old units. Is it mainly an upgrade if you use structure scan or want to save data
RickOnt Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 This HNS Gen 2 info has been out for about a week!! Kinda coincided with the Ptice Drop and Rebate on the current HDS Units. Rick So Now who has the Best price on a Gen 2 HDS-7??
Wolf 3 Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 For those interested, here is a video on the new HDS Gen2 units. http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/HDS-Gen2/
Dan668 Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 Looks like ill be getting a gen 2. Do you guys find structure scan on the console or bow more effective? My older unit will be going on the opposing spot without structure scan.

Nipfisher Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 What would be a good price on a used HDS-8 that is 2 years old (no winter use)? My buddy is upgrading to the Gen2 and will sell his to me for a decent price. What do you all think? New they are still advertised for $1600.

At the time of sale, from the states they could be had for 1399 +200 rebate. So 1200 new
Nipfisher Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 At the time of sale, from the states they could be had for 1399 +200 rebate. So 1200 new I was going off of Radioworld prices on line. What is a good price for oner used?
HTHM Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 What ever YOU think is a fair deal for the both of you. A good price would be 300 a great price would be 100 a FANTASTIC price would be 20. A fair price, that is between you and him.
ah_long Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 I bought my HDS7 and 8 a week before they put out the new Gen 2 but the more I think about it, I'm not losing too much... I do have the LSS-1 bundled with the HDS-8 and boy did I get a good deal on it on top of the rebate.. the structure map functionality is nice but it boils down to what species and lakes you're doing... to my understanding, it's better to put the LSS-1 ducer @ the back, mark the structure you want to fish and use the sonar and GPS up at the bow to fish
scugpg Posted December 27, 2011 Author Report Posted December 27, 2011 Here's an interesting video on the speed comparison. Gen2 is way faster but his Gen1 looks really slow, I've never seen one perform that slow on the water or in a store though. Maybe with structurescan running it slows it right down? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6vT2OAth7E
