Rich Clemens Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 YEah - We even felt it here in PA and we're about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh. Sure got the office girls stirred up. HIghly unusual for us here in the mountains.
wallyboss Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Felt it here in Ottawa. It was long, at least 35-40 seconds.
beginner Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 I felt it here in Richmond Hill, its feels like it vibrate..
mercman Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 5.3 In Colorado also. Relatively shallow to 4.5-6km deep
aplumma Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 No damage but I thought a helicopter was right over the house hovering then it dawned on me it was an earthquake. Art
Garry2Rs Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 If they get a 9.5 in California, I might just wind-up with ocean front property in Arizona!
blaque Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Im no scientist. But how does one person feel it and another not. I felt nothing. NOt during this one or last years. (Im in western new york) Ive got people telling me 10 miles away how they felt it, and now it was felt up into canada? How did it get past me lol. Im between you guys and the epicenter. Im seriously asking how this happens.
kickingfrog Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 The type and age of the building you're in can make a big difference. The hight of the building and how high you are in the building comes into play. The "bedrock" that the building is on also matters.

jedimaster Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 if your on the ground on bedrock or a house with a really good foundation you may not feel it. I am onthe 5th floor of a 20 floor building, and everyone in the building felt it. This is in Toronto. Last year's I was in a mall and I didn't feel it. but others areound the block felt it. It just depends on what your in and where you are.

Familyfisherman Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 We were at Wonderland with the kids...in the water area...seemed to cause some waves in the large pool? Oh...that's the wave pool... Didn't feel anything, but I'm wondering if they might've on some of the bigger rides? Glad I wasn't on one.
mattp33 Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 strange...It was at this time the fishing turned on at scugog. Maybe it gave my lure more action
Carp Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Felt a bit of shaking/vibration while driving, but didn't hear what happened until about 30 min. later. I thought I had a flat tire.
