  1. First off, its fishing...who ever asked you on a fishing trip and revealed all the sordid details before you said you were in..hey, wanna go for big specs...sure..I'm in...ok, but we gotta drive 8 hours..ok, still in...well, its gonna cost a bit...sure, anything for specs...wait, how much..yada yada yada second, its not a lottery, its a contest..skill testing question...keep it in the territories and keep OLGC out of it jeez thats trouble. I'm not going any further with this except to say I will still donate a few bucks
  2. Mt Blizzard...what do you think..8 or 10 for up there..my daughter is getting a gas one and your pm er is broke
  3. I stay away from using a 10" auger because if you step in a hole you can break an ankle pretty easy, especially running to another hole. Anything that won't come out a 8" hole I don't want anyway
  4. In Lake Superior PP there are the Indian pictographs...really nice place to stop for a little hike. In the Sault is the Bush Plane museum. If you are into that at all it is a very interesting and educational stop, easy to get to downtown on the waterfront. Its at the old MNR seaplane base Right across from that is the Old Stone House. Also a good sight to see. And can't forget the Sault Locks. Recreational lock...we don't have the big ones anymore If you go across to Sault michigan you can watch Lake freighters locking through. Yeah, you could easy kill a day in the Sault
  5. I really need to get good at sketchup or something. You have a PM Ranger Guy. PS, my buddy just ordered his new 621 last week
  6. I wonder how much they cost to cancel...its not like they work anyway
  7. Interesting article Glenn. I have done a bit of bridge work and MTO engineering checks generally cover it but this could be different . I can't see the design not being stamped by an Ontario registered engineer but the government does what they want. Ms Wynne doesn't seem to understand the importance of this bridge for Canada. All the beef and pork from western Canada coming by truck must cross this bridge. and her statements sound like she is thinking Hwy 17 from Nipigon to Wawa but it isn't like that. I still don't understand how anybody would reopen this bridge given the failure that happened and the current unknowns. Also, with how upset Sandro, CEO of Ontario eng society sounds, its possible they got shut out of this bridge and now have a great big I told You So on the way Now I'm wondering if the same engineers will do the second bridge
  8. Actually, lowest price doesn't get these jobs. Many factors are taken into account. Schedules, Canadian content, design. Sometimes MTO designs their own bridges, sometimes there is a design competition for artistic value, maintence requirements etc. It is a very complicated and involved process to put a project like this together. Inspection used to be done by MTO but about 25 years ago they started contracting it out to engineering materials laboratories and it is overseen by MTO engineers. More than one engineer will be calculating and checking work like this. Something really strange happened here and it will take a while to figure it out
  9. In floor gets easier all the time. There are some great products to hold things in place while you pour the slab. Little gas boiler to heat the liquid. I did mine 5 years ago, 24x26 with 2x6 walls and 12" blown in in the ceiling. I went with a 50,000 BTU gas heater hung from the ceiling. I built my own doors from 2x6 as well because I don't park in it and didn't want the heat loss of a R5 overhead type.
  10. You mean like solar panels and windmills?
  11. The NDP sure isn;t impressed by this. http://www.sootoday.com/content/news/details.asp?c=103830
  12. Or they will be Really Open holes
  13. Block won't really keep the water out but will give you higher walls. Even if you do a poured wall, if it isn't graded properly at the doors water will get in there. You can't step that part. Just make sure you lift the slab high enough that it doesn't get wet. Try to put a drain in the floor as well. Depends a lot on local rules. Unless you are doing a huge garage a 6" slab thickened around the edges with a couple rows of 15M and wire mesh slab should be adequate. No real need for walls and footings
  14. Lake Superior circle route is out now
  15. Sounds like the cold made the cables contract and the wind gust popped it out of the expansion joint. Going to take a lot of engineering investigation to fix this one
  16. ferget it
  17. You can't drive around Nipigon. Maybe if you know a few logging roads really well but nothing is paved and nothing is plowed this time of year. You have to go to US at the Sault and drive the south side of Superior. We are on a project in White River with workers from Thunder Bay. They have to drive around Superior to get home...about 1200 miles This is actually a really bad thing. They have reopened one lane but hearing what the damage is, this bridge is basically out of commision. This stops all traffic across Canada. Any truck driver that doesn't have a passport can't drive west or east of Thunder Bay. You can't get to Thunder bay from the east and you can't get to most of Ontario from the west. The highway through Michigan on the south side of Superior M28 is no better than HWY 7 down near Toronto
  18. I really want to go fishing now...wish we had just a bit more ice
  19. Yup, I'm in. I will likely be there some time this summer anyway
  20. Now thats funny....GTA and Jeep in the same sentence
  21. The ice isn't safe even here...how could it be down there....stay off
  22. Is that Simcoe?
  23. I love ice fishing..power auger
  24. Ok, my daughter had to find a sitter for her pooch or fly it a month ahead. Is the fishing any good there in Feb...she has me considering a trip PS, thats still a crazy drive
  25. Nice toy...how would it be for towing a 5 x 10 or 6x12 enclosed...they are great for gear
