  1. Well, since I took up snowmobiling, my fishing has been severly limited. I finally got out to a favorite lake last week. Its a short little ride in. They call it Hilltop, but it sure is a long way down. Fishing was a bit slow, but when you get one here, its worth it. We had to leave early so we only ended up with 4 for the day. My son and his buddy had a blast though. Fished from about 8:30 till 3 It wasn't real cold about zero all day but we had a nippy wind. the second biggest broke my snap swivel as I was lifting him out of the hole. I got an arm soaked to the elbow over that one. I was just hoping I didn't hit hook when my hand closed over his head. I have an old 6 1/2 foot ultralight rod and reel I take ice fishing with me. I have been wanting to catch something worthwhile on it for a few years now. I got the 6 pounder on it. lucky thing too as the reason my swivel opened was because I had tied on a too small size. Never would have got him if not for the light rod and drag. Up here we generally just fish with a branch and hand line tied to it. The sun came out for the trip out. I guess this could be why they call it "Hilltop" and a final parting shot of Lake Superior breaking up
  2. I really should get out there for some of that For you guys that don't know these rapids, here is a half decent shot of a section, if it works
  3. Its on the snowmobile trail halfway between the Sault and Wawa. Actually it is halfway from Searchmont and Wawa About 90 miles each way. Its a pretty isolated place. To own and operate something like that, you have to really like the wilderness, and working your tail off. Rewarding in its own right,. But not for everybody. You can sort of drive there in the summer, but not with a car. It is a gas and lunch stop on the trail catering to ATV's and snowmobiles. Also a B&B type place with hot tub and lounge. I was there for the first time last winter, but lots of friends go that way regularly. The fishing is good, but as with anything, you gotta have time for it.
  4. You be carefull out there Those are big rapids and there are deep holes that sneak up on you. Don't be trying to cross it, you have to know the way There is a big hole on the near side of the berm that always has fish in it. Go about half way down on the shore side, there is a bit of a point. Land your fly upstream and let drift down and go deep. there is every fish in the book in the St Marys dod you hear that the pro walleye tournament is here this weekend
  5. Been years since I went there too. I woulda guessed Forestry tech.
  6. Hmmmm OK, Sorry bout that. its been years since I fished over ther and haven't kept up. Hope I didn't get anybody busted
  7. I'm guessing Sault College My son just started there, and my wife teaches there. Oh yeah, the fishing part...Jumbo pearch are in at Bells point now. you can catch a bucket of 12 to 14 inchers in no time
  8. That camera is on the Michigan side of the river. Snagging is legal in Michigan Not something I partake in, but, legal nonetheless
  9. Hey guys guess what with a Michigan fishing license SNAGGING is legal right beside that camera
  10. Jumbo Perch will be starting in a few weeks too. Can't wait Kings are being caught at the Garden now Haven't heard about walleyes at the clay banks yet You can get bows in the rapids year round Should be a few Atlantics around Its all about knowing what you are doing

  14. Hi Guys long time no see been busy with lots of things and just haven't been on here much I do miss the place though. This topic just begs me to jump in and say something. purely self serving but what the heck It seems that I will have a house for sale soon that could fit in here. It needs work. Sound building, but needs kitchen and bathroom upgrades. I live too far away to do this myself. now heres the deal as to why I am bringing it up here. Its on Scugogg Island and has deeded water access. Walking distance to the marina. why not combine a house with a cottage ok, I'll move on to reading some other posts now. Sure hope there are lots of fish pics up
  15. If you do any rainbow fishing, hit the rapids Be care full tho, can be a dangerous spot, and you will need waders. After midnight the pier on the far side of the power canal can get you some good pickerell. Black and silver rapala is always a good bet. Anywhere for pinks. Nice waterfront to just wander around on too. Even if you aren't fishing, the rapids is a nice walk. As was said earlier, Take a drive up along Superior for an hour or 2. The scenery can't be beat
  16. As said. Fly fishing isn't really all that difficult. There are a few things you must know and understand. In fly fishing you are casting the line rather than the lure at the end of the line. I took a night school course a few years ago at our local comunity college on the basics of fly fishing. Best $80.00 I ever spent. It covered equipment, technique, insect species, and 2 field trips for practical experience. It is a whole new outlook on fishing, and doesn't have to be expensive (unless you get addicted). Look around for inexpensive instruction. And yes, you can fly fish for any species
  17. Thats pretty sweet The MNR says, "we don't know whats killing them" "it will take 2 weeks for test results" "it poses no threat to humans" How can anybody in their right mind say that? Our tax dollars at work, for another coverup.
  18. HiYa GCD no worries, I'm just gonna TUNE him for y'all
