so your going 4.5' shorter, and your losing the ability to put a real motor on the craft? and it's an upgrade? most folks tend to go bigger, with bigger motors, on an upgrade.... yakkers are interesting folk :) but for exercise, certainly nothing beats a kayak!

Last night's game was absolutely fantastic! Great Energy. Strong playing. Proud of the boys in blue

Your wife sounds like a cool chick! I'd take the dead over drum any day of the week, lol.

I was interviewed on CTV 6pm news last night.... Asked me who I was more excited for....as I was wearing my Leafs jersey going into the Leafs game. All I could say was, I wish the Jays success, however, GO LEAFS GO! last night's Leaf game was fantastic. No 7th inning stretches needed to wake the fans up, lol. You can see the importance of the Jays nationally, when their first two games are in the afternoon on a weekday. Was nice to see a half dozen Jays at the Leafs game last night...they were also down in the platinum louge signing autographes between periods. Wished them luck.

niagara river to hamilton is the best brown trout fishing in Ontario. March 1 to June 1st is the best time.... then again when the alewives come into the harbours to spawn. (usually mid to end of june) with the collapse of salmon in lake ontario, I think more of us are going to start targetting browns. we also get them casting hamilton harbour from september to january.

ya, that last one is just a baby :) monster pike and monster lakers....i bet ice out is a blast.... trolling in 5' of water and catching huge lakers and pike.....to dream, to dream

One day away from opener!!!! First time since 2002 I'm going to see the game live. Go Leafs Go!!!!!! No suit tomorrow. :) (jays who?, lol)

i should clarify, i'm referring to lake run browns, not natural stream browns.
-
nah, you just have to irritate a brown.... too many folks think they are a light biter, that requires subtle presentations. a kwikfish, j9, or other form of moving bait will get a brown to go...especially if there is stain to the water. try a bagley small fry next time your striking out on browns. you'll be surprised. They are the apex trout predator. also, like you mentioned, they are nocturnal feeders, especially in clear water. I caught a brown fishing frog water in lower bronte sections on a popper, while fishing smallies. a popper, lol.

i used my scanoe with a 2hp motor for three years solo..... did it really weigh >100lbs? wow. threw her up on the racks on my old chevy lumina car.... i always considered that canoe a very stable ride.... no matter what you use, I'm sure you're going to have a blast
-
curious. i fished out of coleman scanoe for a number of years. what can a kayak do, that the coleman scanoe could not?

Mike, browns are the pike of the lake/stream. They eat anything and everything. You have to find them....once you have, they are very easy to catch.

Joey, I got so wrapped up in the memory I forgot to mention Ralphie. My old boy Ziggy, before he passed, he had his last two or three years of blindness. It was tough on the family, and of course, it wasn't easy on Zig either. We found setting trails around the house of familiar toys, so he could smell them, and follow the familiar smells, he learned his way around the house. Beds were tough for him to get onto....but we put the little stairs, and again, his toys on each step so he could smell his way around. He learned his way around....who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks :) Ralphie is a great dog, I know he'll adapt.

my earliest memories weren't cottage life, rather camping / portaging life with my dad. i can't believe dad, at about age 26, with me being around age 6, would take me waaaaaaay back in the woods...five or six portages deep (wilson / duck lake backlakes). I remember trying to help dad portage, while he carried so much of the gear. I had to help with the canoe, but I couldn't lift it on my own. So dad would lift the back up, then I'd walk under it, and he'd lower it on my shoulders. Then he'd lift the front and off we'd go. All we did was troll around the lake...catching SO MANY pike and bass....I didn't know you could catch a pike by any other way but trolling. I remember one particular pike burying a treble hook from his trusty bomber long A deep into his finger....he tried and tried to get it out...blood all over the canoe (square stern sportspal). After no luck, me basically in tears, he took out his trusty buck knife, cut into his finger until he reached the hook, and pulled it out. Took some vodka, and dipped his finger in it.....which he quickly drank from....and lots of it. I remember the first time dad let me take the canoe (which had a 2hp 1973 'rude) out on my own...we camped on an island...had to stay within eyesight of the island....each pass around I slowly went out further and further...testing dad's patience.....finally I was away far enough to get to where a good fishing bay was.... Tried trolling on my own, but snagged the bucktail spinner in the weeds....or so I thought....tried my best to get it out only to find a 6lbs pike on the other end....couldn't get the hook out on my own, so me, the fish, the weeds, all motored back to dad...I was scared he was going to yell at me for going too far away...instead he had tears of joy....first and only time I've seen dad cry. he was so proud. I'll NEVER EVER forget those days. We went back to the chain of lakes when I was 16....things sure had changed in the previous decade...but the fun times with dad still remained.... Got into my late teens and fishing became something that wasn't cool to do anymore....mom said the first time i told dad I wanted to spend my birthday (june 28th, bass opener) with friends instead of fishing was really rough on him...... But around age 21 decided it was time to revive the tradition....and haven't changed a thing since.... Fishing with dad is the greatest thing on earth...and hope we can continue to do it forever.

I have a very very stupid deja-vu question NF
Steve replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
I used to get them going through this one specific tim hortons drive through...no other locations... it was at that drive through, after having these occur for almost a year, that I had a seizure....thank gawd I just rolled into the vehicle in front of me.... I don't like Deja Vu's.....your brain is doing stuff that it shouldn't be doing at that time.... While I was getting the right meds under control, I was wearing a portable EEG machine....it was crazy to see the change in brain activity during a deja vu. -

careful if you find your having increased episodes of deja vu. that was my precursor to seizures. they are under control now, (through seizure meds, not anxiety meds), but I know doctors love to pump anxiety meds out when dealing with deja vu. i know my med levels are off (generally low) if I find myself have increased occurrences. another thing to ensure you test for is liver enzyme levels (ggt levels). both anxiety and seizure meds do a number on your liver. i truly feel for anyone who has to take both forms of meds (seizure and anxiety). I'm thankfully only one the former, but my doctor didn't give a crap, and tried to put me on both.... self medication combined with seizure meds is what works for me. but everyone is different, and have to find what works best for the individual. see multiple doctors if you find your existing doctor is pushing seizure/anxiety meds without offering alternate forms of medication first. These meds should be used as 'last resort'. but like G said, they often work better than other forms of self medication. I wouldn't wish this stuff on my worst enemy. (Dilantin was really bad, Tegretol was much better - side effect wise). Been since November 2006 since my last seizure....once under control, life becomes much better -
Cliff, your heart is often in the right place, but sometimes your mind is in the wrong place.

For those out there that aren't familiar with the Lake Ontario fishery, especially as it relates to Brown Trout, I posted a poll on Spoonpullers, as I said I would. http://www.spoonpullers.com/forums/index.php/topic,25162.msg150609/boardseen.html#new My Poll Reads: Very Simple. Has your boat caught more Atlantics or Browns.More Browns: 63 votes (87.5%) More Atlantics: 9 votes (12.5%) Not at all surprising....
-
my pops taught me early in life, do something that makes you lots of money, so you can afford to do something you love. generally, if you work in something you "love", you quickly lose your love for it.

The Flaky One sure has been silent.
-
well, hopefully they learn about the fish in Lake Ontario on their own, and not listen to fools like Chris who come up with "statistics" which are the furthest from the truth!!! soon enough it'll be, "because browns are barely more successful than atlantics, and atlantics are natural to the lake, we should switch our biomass stocking from browns to atlantics...after all, browns are only barely more successful...." that is the crap that comes from the OFAH and the atlantic program.
-
who knows how they did their survey's... probably had a bunch of pimple faced kids hanging out around a launch ramp at the promanade in the middle of the afternoon who couldn't tell the difference between a brown and an atlantic anyway... and those are the folks who provide the statistics that the mnr base their decisions on. (and we wonder why the lake is going to hell in a hand basket).

Bondar got himself a great boat!! The 90's explorer series was one of the most well built Lund ever. The Lund Pro Guide was the upgrade to the explorer series, but super tough to find. I'm sure you will love your new Lund for years to come
