Looking at the Hydro One site there are some sporadic power outages, but nothing too severe yet. Hope that it continues that way. http://www.hydroone.com/stormcenter3/

Make sure you open the throttle when you do the compression test. It can affect the readings if it can't get air to replenish what is exhausted.

Just channel hopping and on the weather network there is a freezing rain warning for a lot of southern Ontario. Looks like there is a good chance of a fair amount of freezing rain that could bring down power lines. Hope you all fare out well through it. Best be prepared.

We would put a target inside a tire and roll it down a hill. It's great practise for shooting deer on the run.

My opinion on the most exciting deer hunt differs from yours. Running a chase with hunters on a line, a couple guys with dogs pushing towards the line. When the howling dogs pick up a deer and runs it through to guys waiting at the end. Shots being fired, them missing, and it continues toward you. Your heart races as the howling gets closer, you hear the bush crunching with activity. The deer is spotted doing a 100mph through the trees, you click off the safety and......

Thinking back on all the cool toys I had as a kid (I was spoiled). Too many to remember. Meccano got a good workout. Slot cars, model cars, got into building balsa wood planes with .049 engines you flew on a string. A buddy and I also built a motorized go-kart from scrap materials. One special one that comes to mind was called a Vaccuform. It had sheets of plastic that went on the top that were heated by the machine. Under the plastic you could put different forms that the plastic would form over when the vacuum was applied.

I don't use a shotgun for hunting deer, but have done a fair amount of duck hunting and trap shooting. One thing that is important is that the gun "fits" you. I tried several different shotguns before I settled on one that felt comfortable and shot where I pointed it. Don't just go by the feel of it. Go to a range and try it if possible. I'd agree that some semi shotguns can/do have issues. The 870 is a tried and true gun for many, but for some reason they just don't suit me.

I was a Lowrance guy for many years, but have to say I am not happy with my GPS/sonar unit. Yes, it's a few years old now, but the chip for the maps is only three years old. The Nipissing the map is pretty much useless, especially for those that are not real familiar with the lake. Missing shoals, and even complete islands. My handheld Garmin Rino has the actual Nipissing chart on it and is much more detailed. I'd trust it heads and tails more for navigation over the Lowrance. Not sure how well the Garmin solid units are however, never used one. But I'd certainly research one when I replace the one I have now.

There are many vehicles out there that headlights just plain suck on. First step is to check the housing. Make sure the reflective material behind the bulb is still shiny and clean. without this reflection, your lights wont work, plain and simple. next make sure the outer lens isn't stone pitted or discolored. If it is, the pitting diffuses the light all over the place but the road. There are many kinds of polishing kits on the market. Takes time to do them right, the cheap polish kits don't last, they simply temporarily fill in the pits. Like fisherman said, there are brighter bulbs, but they tend to burn out quickly. I'd suggest some additional lighting be added. Here again, don't cheap out or you are wasting your time and money. Get some lights that are not flood but a beam that will shine forward. Wayne should be able to get you some aircraft landing lights, they work well

When I head down to TO I am always amazed how much it costs to even park the truck. I'll stick with my traffic free commute. There are things that cost more up this way too, but to me, the advantages certainly outweigh anything else. I left a good paying job with benefits back in 1985 when they decided to close their operations in North Bay. They offered me a position in several different cities. I thought about it, visited ones I thought I may be able to live. Barrie was one I almost took, but on the way home I said to my wife that I was going to quit and do something else. She supported my decision. Went back to a minimum wage starting out as an apprentice mechanic. Applied myself hard. within a year I had places calling me to come and work for them. That was cool! For the last 20 years I have operated my own shop. Life is good, but still need to keep at it.

As a kid growing up my dad was a fishing nut. We fished a LOT. I grew real tired of it and didn't fish for a good many years. I eventually got back into it about 20 years ago. Fished almost every day in the summer. But, again, grew a little tired of it. I like doing a variety of things now, but at the cottage. Puttering with all the things there are to do. Never bored. When the fellas come up for the weekends of fishing it's usually enough for me.

Brake cleaner works well. Buy it in a spray can. -

Can't worry too much about a little grease on your shirt Joe That's why I only wear black. I manage to get anything else dirty just by looking and not touching. -
Lock cylinders have a tendency to corrode as well without being properly lubricated periodically. I have saved a few of them by taking them out and partially apart. Then dip them into muriatic acid for about a minute. Rinse well with water, lightly oil them and they usually work after the first dip. The 6in1 oil that was originally sold by OMC and now by Bombardier has been the best all around lubricant I have found for freeing up latches, and other things.

NHL makes 12-year deal with Rogers for broadcast rights
Bernie replied to lhousesoccer's topic in General Discussion
TV in Canada I believe is going to change drastically. Supposedly we will be able to pick only the channels we wish to watch. With all the channels that are available that are "thrown in" with the packages, I think that many will not get enough support to continue. I know that my satellite channels will get real thin after the change. Lots of junk my family or I never watch. This is what makes me think that a lot of channels may become PPV. -

I have not yet paid to watch a hockey game on TV and I will refuse to do so in the future. I can see the possibility of hockey becoming PPV. -

Anglers Haven, Ice Bungalows both come to mind in the South Bay. -
Yesterdays project. A fellow dropped this old saw off on Friday. He found it in the dump. Thought I could use it for parts for my other one. I cleaned it up, fixed the rewind. It had compression and spark so I continued to clean the carb, adjust the linkage, fuel tank and spark plug. It fired right up and ran great Looked like this after. So happy I cleaned it up some more.

Very cool. Have something similar to this. My dad took the movie. Early 60's.

I agree with Big Cliff on the axe. I have a maul, but it was the lightest one I could find. I have been keeping an eye out for a good splitting axe head. I'll make my own handle.

LOL Art! I bet it was at my end

Several of us in our hunting group use a Garmin Rino. They are awesome for how we hunt. One of the guys keys his mic and it sends his location signal to one of the bush doggers. It will take the dogger right to him. Don't cheap out with the regular radios though. Get a high power. Even a good one can be limited to a kilometer in bush and hills.
