  1. Pigeon is great for muskies, good to see you got into some despite the weather.
  2. If your going east on 401 try Tightlines in Pickering, Brock Rd. south of the 401. Always tons of lively emerald shiners for many years.
  3. Wow, averaging over 6 lbs. per fish, that is unreal.
  4. Didn't the Canadiens knock Washington and Pittsburgh out of the playoffs last year. This year they look like a better team. Just sayin
  5. Didn't really want to answer this but since was mentioned in initial post... Gizzard Shad don't hit lures out of aggresion or to feed period. When i put 'Gizzard Shad' into Google this is first thing to come up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_gizzard_shad They filter phyloplankton and sand. Have fished an area polluted with Gizzard Shad for 20+ yrs. They must make up 50% of the biomass there. A few Gizzard Shad have been boated but were snagged accidently. Thousands of other fish hit the lures in that time; brown trout, rainbows, smallies, white bass, walleye, pike, some largemouth, salmon, channel cats, even carp and suckers hit the lures. The few Gizzard Shad were snagged unintentionally.
  6. An incredible fish! Maybe this will give catching sheepshead a more favourable viewpoint.
  7. Any gizzard shad caught are accidentally snagged. They are phyloplankton filter feeders exclusively. This is explained in this article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_gizzard_shad
  8. Gizzard Shad don't hit lures they are vegetarians or plankton feeders. Have accidently snagged a couple over the years at warm water outflows where there are tons.

    Joe Pants, just sayin'
  10. Those bull trout are like lake trout. Beauty fish! Great pics all around. Good luck with things in B.C.
  11. Yes, i put a stinger on these jigs to get the worm stealers. Usually catch fish on the main jig hook, sometimes the stinger gets them. Thanks Jacques, when fishing muskies always ready for other fish just in case. When the light breeze did kick up it was from the east. East wind always slows fishing on this lake, especially without a depthfinder.
  12. Was able to get up to Pigeon Lake for a bit of musky fishing on Saturday, brought up some worms to jig walleyes if needed as well. It was lookibg like it would be a beautiful fall day with light winds and rain forecasted to hold off until the evening. Got to the lake and it was like glass. Definite relief from the winds that seemed to be howling in the city here last few weeks. At least 75% of the leaves were off the trees but the little bit of orange and yellow left were pretty vivid. Quit smoking cigarettes about three years ago but found in the fall while fishing really enjoy the Cuban cigars while trolling around this water. I will never smoke a cigarette again and luckily cigars you can't inhale(and are expensive)but they have this time and place. A 'culebra' So we were setup to go to it but Dude says the fishfinder isn't working Not good. Don't use it to mark fish but really helps find weedlines, open water humps, shoals, depth etc...the batteries are dead. Need to replace two 6 volt batteries on the Hummingbird portable. Oh well, after 15 yrs of using it this is only third time for replacing the batteries. We trolled for muskies anyways guessing by landmarks were structure might be. Trolled Believers and Jakes hoping for the best for a couple of hours. Nothing happened though. Gave the musky trolling a rest and jigged for walleye. I remembered the landmarks for a shoal i jigged as a 13 yr. old. Gave it a try and Dude caught a small walleye. We immediately through out a marker and kept jigging around it. This was a hump up to 15' with 35 ft. all around it. Caught litte walleye constantly for a couple of hours. Even caught a smallie at the bottom of main lake basin. So no muskies were caught(blame it on lack of depthfinder), but a good day was had and fish were caught still. Ran out of worms just as fish stopped biting, rain was on the setting horizon. Not a bad day, despite whatever, buddy even figured out how to put 12 ft. tinnie on roof of van without much lifting. Just need four full length swim noodles.
  13. Another great post, like the video. Eagle Lake is fabled for big esox and walleye, people pay thousands of dollars for something that is 15 minutes away to you. Lucky guy! Thanks for post.
  14. Joined OFC about 7 yrs. ago for local fishing reports. Only thing around for excellent bits of info on where and how to catch fish around Ontario. Got into doing fishing reports myself if i ever get out there
  15. Another nice musky, have to getup that way before it is too cold. Thanks
  16. That second musky makes the Believer look puny. These fall fish from Pigeon are looking chunky and unmarked. Nice going
  17. Looks like a successful excursion. Picked your spot and sure enough there was a decent muskie waiting for you. Very nice
  18. Kudos on nice work on the cottage and raising your son. Your doing things right
  19. I remember back in the mid-80's, as a young teen, reading an article in Chronzy's Ontario Fisherman on the egg sinker/big roe bag setup(with little styro balls in it). You would cast as far out in lake as possible by a rivermouth and wait for a fish to hit. Sometimes the Mitchell 300 and 6lb Stren would get spooled. Not sure there is as many fish or access to trib mouths like back then. You need stillwater for stillfishing.
  20. The muskies and pickerel are surely on for awhile still. Enjoy your reports, you should hook up no doubt and get out there. Cheers.
  21. Thanks for taking us along for that perspective of the landscape. Amazing videos!
  22. Nice fish! Hope to see the other one as well. A fish or 2 a day around 35 - 40 inch is prety good stuff. Anything more is a miracle, even on Pigeon. After fishing hardcore there for 25 yrs i would be happy with that. 47 incher was biggest in boat in that time there. Anyday on the water is a good day, have to wait until the 23rd to go up there. Great stuff
  23. Better late than never, nice chromer bows!
  24. As a Torontonian i resemble the bitterness in this whole thread. No matter where i am will get along with all folks. Even the 'Shwa where i lived in my youth. You just adjust and adapt like to poor fishing conditions.
