  1. well, now that I compare pics maaaaaaybe not quite 30 lbs, but the biggest fish I've ever caught nonetheless. Keep in mind I am almost 6 ft and 149 lbs.
  2. nice fish. I just caught my PB out of a creek a few days ago, it ate a worm, no joke, inhaled it. It was about 28-30 lbs.
  3. it's not walleye, but, LAKE SIMCOE!!! loads of perch
  4. yep, gobbys for sure. They seem to be getting everywhere.
  5. I think my grandpa drove an oldsmobile firenze in the 80's, lol. Horrible little thing apperently.
  6. I'm happy driving my moms mazda 3 and dads bmw 335i on occasion.. Until I have to fill the thing up with 91 octane I think that maybe these electric hybrid cars are the cars of the future, but if you look at them right now, they cost a lot to run, picture this, you could buy a used bmw/benz/audi for the same price as one of these volt's new, and get a better, cooler car overall, and it would cost the same to run pretty much anyways. If imports arn't your thing, then you could buy one hell of a nice truck used for the same price as one of these. I just don't see how anyone would want to drive one, considering how much of a pain in the butt they are right now. Maintenance is probably another issue, expensive parts, etc. I know I don't really have any numbers/facts to back any of this up, but I consider myself a car enthusiast, and roughly know how hybrids/electrics stack up against little turbo I4/ I6 cars EDIT: this is if you don't include this whole 'environmentally friendly' phase we're going through right now. If that's your concern, then yeah maybe look at buying a hybrid/electric I guess. It's just not my thing though.
  7. I know what I'll be doing... Fishing brookies!! Try and get the deck done after work, then fish on the weekend.
  8. Thats a cool fish for sure! I didn't know we had them in Ontario. I can't wait for the steelies to start running the tribs, looking forward to some smoked/barbecued rainbow trout.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Thames is more well known for it's walleye fishery. I don't know if I'd be eating the fish out of there, though.. Matt.
  10. Yeah I've gotten 72" 2x4's in the car before, so I could probably angle the rod diagonally, and have it go across the passenger seat. God help me if I ever take a turn too fast I've been looking on BPS, and maybe I could get a 6'6MH vendetta 2 pc, and then a 6'10 MH compre 1 pc.
  11. If you REALLY wanna catch fish there, you gotta use live minnows, with 2-3 rods going per person, all around the dam
  12. I think Rich would have been fishing from a boat. I have caught so many pike on my spinnerbaits there that a couple of them need new skirts. White has always been the ticket for me, but chartreuse works too esp if the water is murky. I would honestly just stick with spinnerbaits and weedless plastics this time of year at mountsberg. You really don't want to get a rapala stuck up in a 30 pound mess of weeds. In the summer weedless spoons (jawbreaker) can be lots of fun.
  13. There seems to be a much lower selection for 2 piece as well, which is why I am kind of leaning towards a 1 piece now. However I somehow need to fit this potential rod into the trunk of a mazda 3 (seats do fold down), but that would mean I couldn't bring any friends with me fishing with my new rod cause it would take up the back seat... Maybe the option is to buy a 2 piece rod right now then buy a 1 piece compre or verdict next season, and just use the reel interchangeably.
  14. OK, so from what I've read I'm going to buy a curado low-profile style. I don't mind spending money on quality things, I just don't know anything about casting setups, lol. Somebody also mentioned that 2 piece rods were of lower quality... Would a 6'6 MH Abu Verdict 1 piece be a better buy? Does losing that 6 inches on your rod make a difference in casting? If I were to buy these, would the rod and reel match up? The reason I ask is because I have basically no experience with casting equipment, so have no idea how it should feel, whereas I can pick up a spinning combo in 10 seconds and decide whether I like it or not. Also, I would only be using the combo for casting, I troll with spinning stuff.
  15. I want to buy myself a baitcasting setup finally. I am a newbie to baitcasting, so don't really know what brands/models to be looking at, nor how to match the rod and reel. All I know is that I want a 7'0 MH 2 piece setup. Left hand retrieve. Anywhere from the $100-$200 range. What are my options? Thanks, Matt.
  16. try white spinnerbaits. I have done well with certain weedless plastics too...
  17. exactly. Still lots of fish around the piers. I don't even really fish rivers for salmon anymore. Salmon snaggers give fishermen a bad rep.
  18. not unless you like 100,000 ton metal projectiles blowing by you at high speeds...
  19. stick to the dam. more and bigger fish there. I caught a nice LMB last year around this time at the dam, as well as the typical snot rocket pike.
  20. I do also have a 6'6M with 10 Braid for jigging... 6-8 lb fluoro leaders, but other than that, I like mono.. no reason for a leader/more knots to fail!
  21. I enjoy using my 6'0 ML paired with 6 lb mono for fishing brown trout, bass, walleye, and even small pike (up to 2 ft). I have never had anybody come up and tell me that I was stupid for using way too light tackle. me, I like to fight with my fish, where I do end up losing a small percentage of them. I have used a 7'0 MH baitcaster w/ 30 lb PP for bass, and what I found was I was dragging them right out of the water and pulling them on the top, where with ML spinning equip, it could take me 2-3 mins to land the same fish, and more skill. I mean who can say that they haven't got a 5 lb pike on a UL while fishing panfish (or something similar) and not enjoyed the fight... am I right??? Matt.
  22. "I think he's dead!" .... ... "He can't be!" LOL
  23. 5 1/2" husky jerk firetiger whacky rigged senkos for bass
