I drive the 407 in the rush hour from brock some days to and past the 427,traffic on the 407 is not a problem getting to it and off it is the problem. The roads at either end are the problem as there is PLENTY of traffic already on those roads.I use a couple of short cuts on either end to speed up my travels and leave a few minutes early in the morning to avoid hassles. vance

Some 4 strokes have tendency to make oil. Check out this link from Iboats http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158085 I think it shows where the extra oil comes from. vance

I think your problem is you are putting to much gas in the tank.As the gas warms up it will expand and force out any excess, remember the gas is stored in undergroud tank and is much cooler down there. My tanks hold 25 liters but I never put in more than 22 in so there is room for expansion.leave the vent open some so the air inside has somewhere to go. The fireman that used to live on the street and my insurance agent both told never to store gas in an attached garage because of the risks involved. vance

From experience I can tell you that the trolling motor will cause electrical interferance for your finder.I tried all kinds of filters and such to no use.Just run a wire to the engine battery and you will have no problems. vance

Renting a boat from a licenced renter does not require that you have a licence. The rental operator will give you a dockside instruction and oral test for competancy. From what I have seen and heard you can't flunk the test. vance

The oily residue is not from your lower end but from unburnt premix 2 stroke oil. I have been down this road before and there is nothing wrong with anything other than premix does not do well under all conditions especially starting and idling. We use to call it an Italian tune up where by you would floor the accellerator from idle to run it wide open till it ran good to clear out the oil.I can still remember my dad saying start it up and flog it until the smoke clears. The newer oils don't smoke as mutch but for the most part premix is over oiled for most conditions.Mine is oil injected but I know back in 2004 I KILLED every bug in a 2k radius of Emily park because I had the kill switch off while I was trying to start mine-turn on the dang thing -started right- cough cough -up. So the key thing is to learn HOW to start your OB,they are all different and when you do you will love it. vance

Can anyone recommend a Boat Mechanic???(Oshawa/Lindsay)
vance replied to redfin's topic in General Discussion
Port Perry Marine -hwy 12 just south of Reach road-they do excellent work and don't try to rip you off. vance -
I have that same motor in the 40 hp version and yes the first tank has to have oil in the gas for break in.I have portable tanks for mine so it was no problem to premix. Tell you what I will do I will LEND you a tank for an afternoon so that it will be easier for you to do the break in. vance

Anyone know a good marine mechanic in Oshawa area?
vance replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Port Perry Marine on highway 12 does excellent work. vance -
Port perry Marine on highway 12 south of Reach road is a very good Mercury and Brp dealer and has the most common sizes in stock. Rayplex Limited at 341 Durham Court by the Oshawa Center does repairs and sells Michigan Wheel props which are cheaper tham mercs but of excellent quality.I had one on my last boat and it worked well. vance

When your boat and trailer are attached to your car/truck you are insursed with it,otherwise it is on with your house policy even while on the water. vance
-
If you have an at fault "accident" you better have insurance or you WILL pay for the rest of your life.I bet that within 5 years it will be manditory!! vance
-
1-you will pay tax when you buy it. 2-If the motor is 10hp or over the boat will need a license 3-the trailer will need its own license 4-to operate the boat you will need a license 5-you will need insurance on the boat when in the water 6-unless you are fishing big water and big fish anything that floats will get you to the fish if you can catch them!! 7-the only real question is will your vechical tow it legally.... vance
