  1. close call...and buddy blew a sale cuz he wouldn't budge. he'll be sitting on that blower for the rest of the season is my thinking
  2. from what I understand, they're VERY responsive to Tweets so maybe do that since it's very public vs a phone call. Just make sure to hashtag Rogers, cable etc.. ie- #rogerscable #rogers #mycabledoesntwork
  3. jerk, sushi, green curry, Cantonese, dry rub side ribs (hmmm)...I could go on lol
  4. repeating the lawyer comment as they will research whether or not your idea is new and patentable. patents are hard to get from what I understand and why so many products are likely 'patent pending'. I'm not a lawyer so this may all be worth the price of paper its printed on
  5. Just came back from Wabush, Labrador...that would be an interesting place to work. Everyone raves about the fishing and hunting there and if you love slinging flies, coastal Labrador is a short haul away. Also heard the Trans Labrador highway is pretty well all blacktop now, your truck would love a road trip methinks
  6. great write up and wonderful photos ! I could spend days at the mouth of the river just taking it all in, the marsh grass looks gorgeous that time of year. Looks like you've found the right work/ life balance and we all envy your determination to chart your own destiny as you choose.
  7. what a cute chubby little bugger
  8. did your are area get hammered by snow last night Lew ? hope it's not tree on line probs
  9. No need to explain things Cliff and I think the community benefited from the discussion you started. Fingers crossed for your wife and daughter and they're back to 100% in due time These are very chaotic and fluid times we're living in now but I believe this country can weather and persevere through the minefield that lays ahead. take care
  10. that's great news Lew ! next thing you know, you'll be back on the West Arm
  11. ^^ what Brian said. Takeaway from this thread is that this is one damned fine country we live in and there's nowhere better on this blue planet !
  12. awesome memories you and your kids have got from RRFN. now to make some from LOTW !
  13. anecdotally, most of the new Canadians I see are working at any job they can get. even a min wage job here is better than anything they might have had back home wherever that may be. goal is to give their kids a better opportunity re:higher education. the majority have taken full advantage of this golden opportunity. this country was built by immigrants of all stripes and I hope we continue doing so.
  14. If I spent that much $$ at that shop, I would expect they'd not try to fleece me but if it's new management and this is how they operate, I'd be spending my money elsewhere. I'd also tell them that this job cost them all your future business and if they look at their books, they'll know they blew it. big time. even if they try to make amends, I'd still walk. after they made it right.
  15. there's no video of him shooting as he's entering. if there is, the rcmp are keeping a lid on it for security reasons. regardless, that he got in with a gun is worrisome. not unlike true guy at brampton courts. he was dispatched as well.
  16. I don't believe he shot his way into the building. rounds were fired after he entered the main hallway iirc
  17. incorrect, international media were all over this last week. CNN sent Anderson Cooper up. New York Times lead it on their front page.
  18. The Ottawa situation is receiving more coverage because firstly - it was in Ottawa and therefore more media attention and secondly - the gunman went to Parliament Hill after shooting Cirillo. Take away the Hill and it's still important but not as far reaching. I don't believe it had anything to do with age but more the circumstances of how they died and the entirety of the events.
  19. exploring the back 40 will be great for the kids. I haven't hit every nook and cranny of our 11 acres yet
  20. yup, starts with 10 acres or so, then you'll end up like Chad with more land than any man really needs
  21. you wanna talk onions and stuff fin yer eyes ? I say any member here who doesn't bawl their eyes out when they hit the link ain't a real man if you know the National War Memorial, you'll understand better http://thechronicleherald.ca/editorial-cartoon/2014-10-23-editorial-cartoon
  22. and this story explains how 2 countries dealt with the ebola crisis. we could learn a thing or two from how they handled it. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/ebola-how-to-stop-the-disease-dead-in-its-tracks/article21159394/#dashboard/follows/
  23. I think this is a huge first step and the NFN acknowledging the problem and taking a step is heartening. Now if only the gov't would do something about the cormorant population....
  24. yeah but can't see full pic. regardless, front line workers in West Africa, afaik, are wearing coveralls, infection gowns and little exposed skin if any. There's a fear about ebola that is bordering on paranoia in spite of following CDC protocols (21 day period, self monitoring etc.) for example... http://jimromenesko.com/2014/10/16/syracuse-university-disinvites-washington-post-photojournalist-over-ebola-fears/
