  1. This "gong show" is no different than any one of the thousands of bass and walleye tournaments held every every year across Canada and the US. Terry's comment was right on. Make it a derby, kill all the fish and the short-sighted locals will be happy. Ridiculous.
  2. Thank you for contributing such a great first post! Glad you're not just some troll who just signed up just because you had an agenda. Listen carefully...fisherman are allowed to KILL their legal limit of fish. Two fisherman in a boat can both KILL their legal limits of fish. Fisherman not fishing a tournament are still going to fish and KILL their limit of fish if they so desire. Fisherman fishing a tournament try NOT to KILL a single fish. Now, if you were a fish, would you rather be caught in a tournament or the weekend after???
  3. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I've never heard that one before.
  4. If you think only 27 fish will get caught, sure.
  5. ^^^ This is exactly my point. Thanks Crappieperchhunter. The 20% kill rate in that tourney is 80% better than the one on the first page of the General Discussions right now. I just don't want to see fish get wasted unnecessarily.
  6. May sound different but it's exactly the same. Frame it as you like. It's my opinion that the only issue is the fish that get wasted.
  7. I think it's sad only if the 27 dead walleye were wasted. Remember, tournament fish limits are at or below the legal limits for ONE fisherman, not two. I think that in extenuating circumstances, such as the heat on this past weekend, rule concessions should be made to make sure any fish that dying fish and are kept for eating. Sounds counterproductive but there were 140 anglers in that tournament and apparently 27 dead fish...that's under .2 fish per angler. Those guys aren't going to quit walleye fishing if the tournament ceases to exist.
  8. I have a 2007 Civic the the compressor clutch is not engaging. Quote was $1200...ouch.
  9. I'll bet the charger was the whole problem. I can see one battery being a dud and going out in one year but not both...and not at the same time. I've ran interstate in my Ranger for about 3 years with no issues. Keep them topped up and charge them after every use. I use a 4 bank NOCO onboard charger.
  10. I keep the last expired set in the boat as backup. What the heck, they're paid for. New set satisfies the regs.
  11. There's always grey areas. I was smallie fishing yesterday on the US side of Erie. Coming back I was thinking about the fact I'm running through closed waters with 8 rods loaded with tubes, dropshots and jerkbaits.
  12. This brings up the skin on question. I thought it was necessary only in transit or at camp for instance. A couple bags of frozen chunked fish is tough to decipher...smallies, walleye and how many. I also keep very little fish in the freezer. Heck I harvest probably 6 fish a season at most anyway.
  13. That's a very cool looking reel! Pull that out when the police stop you and you're likely to get shot! Where did you find it?
  14. ^^^ What Mister said. People think because the outboard can deliver charge to a battery it will keep a battery fully charged. Then they run 10 mins down the lake at half throttle and fish for 2 hours while listening to the radio, running graphs and using livewells. For what you're doing, get one decent battery and put it on a charger after every use.
  15. There's so many variables in play that it's impossible to create a single rule that works for everyone. If you're cranking over a 50hp outboard, run one graph, and use your livewells periodically, you can probably get away with either. If you have a 200hp+, multiple graphs and run aerators all day, you may want a more specialized hybrid battery or a high quality cranking battery; one that can take the constant drain and still crank a V6. I personally don't see the need to run 2 batteries in parallel. The technology in today's cranking batteries allow a tournament boat to run 2-3 12 inch screens, structure scan, and livewells all day and then crank a 250hp over to get back; in all temperatures.

  17. I was thinking the same thing!! It's like Princess Auto, I'll go when I don't need anything! lol

  19. You keep you eyes open for them on Erie. At 60+ mph one of those buggers could do serious damage.
  20. I agree. Luckily, I've never had to use my cables to jump the big motor. When I bought the NOCO 4 bank charger I also bought their quick disconnect receptacle so I don't have to open the back compartment to plug it in. It's so handy to just back the boat in, reach over and plug in the boat and walk away.
  21. Maybe. But not if you want to cash a cheque.
  22. This is correct, even if you don't have a $100K boat. My boat doesn't have the switch so I just carry booster cables. Cranking over a 200hp+ V6 is different than a 40 after a long day of running graphs and livewells. The outboard's charging system is not designed to replace that amount of discharge.
  23. I would have never guessed there'd be such a wide spectrum of opinion over leader test.
  24. If you've got three batteries on board definitely go with a three bank changer. It'll make your life easier and you'll always have healthy batteries. I have the Noco Genius 4 bank in my boat. Dead easy and at 10 amps per bank, the batteries are ready overnight.
  25. ^^^ I heard that on the radio!! Good for him. That kid has amazing hands in tight.
