That's equally concerning. Hell, even if I couldn't pick it up, I'd want to go see it. Request a visit so you can at least see just how land-locked it is. That might give you a better idea of when you'll get it as well.

That's incredibly immature. 65 eh?
-
Too bad you didn't know ahead of time but that is standard protocol. Like someone said above, they're not going to start pulling boats out in random order. That would be chaos.

This is actually therapeutic. Of all the dogs I've had over the years, this pup is the craziest and I was starting to think he was especially nuts. I going to try to convince myself he'll grow out of it!

Definitely pros and cons to both. Depends on your career, where your family is, how old your kids are, do you want a divorce, lol etc... We lived up north until my kids were in grades 5 and 7 before moving to Grimsby. We'd never, ever go back but to each his own. In all fairness, Grimsby is not the GTA.

Well that proves it, they will eat anything.

Hello there and welcome. This weather is awesome, good luck at the bar.

Awesome video. Your son is so comfortable in the water, looks very natural to him. That swim alone would make the trip worthwhile.

Holy cow, that was hilarious. The road flare was the best.

That's too funny! You can tell people your dog's a pull start! LOL I'll be honest, I've had dogs all my life and when they said we should get pet insurance, I thought, yeah right. It was Trupanion and the 30 days free coverage saved me big time. I had a $250 deductible and you get 90% coverage. Last night I enrolled for coverage at $44.50/month...hell its the least I can do! They even paid the vets directly so I wasn't out of pocket for the entire amount and waiting for the claim to process. I see it as a must have, for pups at least.

We lost our 13 year old yellow lab just before Christmas this year and decided we'd wait 6 months to one year before we'd think about replacing him. Two weeks of dead quite nights and nobody greeting us the door later, the hunt for a new pup was full on. The void he left was shocking. So, January 18 we picked up an 8 week old goldendoodle who despite the pee, poop, chewing, crying, mouthing, and jumping, became the center of the universe here in one week flat. Two days ago he starting to vomit...a lot! Short story, emergency visit at 9pm, xrays at 10pm, and surgery to remove a piece of metal that had pierced his intestine at 1am! The buggar has eaten dryer sheets, toilet paper, leafs and wood but metal?? The bill so far is about $3500 and there is another appointment in 2 weeks to get the staples out. The good news is, by sheer luck, when we took him in for his first shots in February, the vet's office signed him up for 30 days of free pet insurance - that expired 3 days after the surgery! Still expensive but no where near $3500. Our lab once ate a Timex watch, velcro strap and all. It showed up on the lawn a day later. The vet told me he took a whole tea towel out of a golden retriever last month. Any interesting dinners for your dogs?

Be careful if steam cleaning! The glue holding the carpet down does not like the heat.

9.8...hey, he stuck the landing. Great picture.

Great tips! Thanks guys

That I didn't know! I assume because the stem on the helm pump is different?
-
I disconnected the helm and cables a couple weeks ago and pulled the cables out. I tied a wire to each cable before I pulled them out so I have two wires in the gunnel I can use to pull the hoses through. I'll have to open up the hole on the console to accept the 3" helm pump...should be fun. I imagine your Ranger console is similar to mine...it must be darn near an inch thick at one spot! I hope the bolts are long enough. Oh, and to add to the fun, I'm going to add a jackplate while I'm monkeying with it.

Irish, when they do decide to collect the taxes, how do you pay? I can't see the mailman asking for $150 cash. Cheque?

Most fun I ever had fishing bows was through the ice! The water was 4' deep and gin clear. The bows were staging off a small creek flowing into Georgian Bay and we would use tiny row bags and lie down on ice looking through the hole. Then, three feet from your face, a 6 lb bow would cruise in and stop your heart. You could see every marking on the fish at that distance. Finally, it would suck it in and you'd have to set the #12 hook and as fast as possible, shove the tip of your short ice fishing rod down the hole! The fish would peel off 60 yards of ice under the ice in a blink. If you didnt have your rod tip down the hole, you'd get broke off on the edge of the ice. That was real hit and miss every year because of the ice conditions. The ice had to be think enough during the winter to sustain the initial spring thaw so the creek would begin to flow. Great time, probably never again with these winters.

Well! Instead of physically crossing the border where I'll be paying the taxes regardless, maybe I should just get it shipped to me door and save the drive! Thanks guys

Unfortunately, since I run a 200hp, I have to go up to the HK7400. If you get something shipped US post, will it skip through customs without brokerage and taxes?? Even at that price point?

Maybe not the best examples but this is all I have: ^^^ This is old concrete pilings I found about 30 feet away from a bridge. Some time many years ago the old bridge was replaced and this is what is left. In the left screen, the white line is the boat path, the black area on both sides of it is the water column straight down and the blue areas are the 120 ft. scanned areas. Note: Not only do you see the concrete well but also the rocks, logs and weed growth around them. If you look at the right side of the screen, you can see the reflection of the handrail of the existing bridge. ^^^^^ This image is less exciting but relevant. In the bottom left corner of the blue area, you can see the remains of a downed tree that is no longer visible along the shoreline. The main branches have broke off and whats left is a small brush pile (just above the "80" on the screen). What's noteworthy here is it was bare visible on the downscan and you'd just never see it on regular sonar. Rob, hope this helps you a some. I've seen your pics so if you every want an on-water demo.... LOL

I have Lowrance HDS7 and HDS9 Touch...I can tell you this...if you buy any unit with these features and don't do your homework to learn how to set it up, use it AND interpret the images, you will log on here in September and say it's a waste of money. If you want to see what your missing, go for it and do it right. Personally, I love it. I can cruise across a point at 10kph scanning out 120ft per side, and drop waypoints on rocks, boulders, logs, whatever. Instead of fishing the "point" I'm fishing structure on structure.

No autopilot in my future, but I have been eyeballing the Motorguide Xi5 trolling motors. Amazing tool for following a contour and "anchoring".

Thanks Art. I've never read anywhere that someone regretted going to hydraulic steering despite the cost. Since I won't be replacing my boat anytime soon, I might as well dive deep and spend the extra. I just got a quote this morning from a recommended US supplier of $880 USD for the Seastar Pro with 16' hoses shipped to Niagara Falls NY. That's about $1170 CDN, plus tax and the cost of crossing the border to get it. My Canadian pricing from a local marine supply has the same equipment at $2219.98 plus tax. That's a substantial difference I can't afford to absorb. I'll try to find a better price here before I pull the trigger but I doubt I'll get close.

Soft water is approaching and it's time to replace the steering on my boat. I timed it just perfectly; if I buy in the US, the exchange will kill me and if I buy in Canada, the Canadian suppliers have already jacked prices to more than compensate. ? hydraulic steering is big bucks now!
