I'm not so sure about the validity your post. To me, it looks like it was written in such a way as to rally the troops with a "sky is falling" message. I don't believe it's near as bad as you're projecting. If fact, read the new thread: Nip/Upper French Report. It portrays an opposite scenario of what you're saying with pictures to back it up. I'm not trying to protect cormorants, I'm just suggesting that maybe before blaming birds on your inability to catch fish, you should consider another source for the problem? I'd start by PM'ing Marty from Pittsburgh.

One thing about those Simcoe smallies, they don't burn calories 24/7 swimming in current! They are the couch potatoes of the Southern Ontario smallmouth community. lol David, that fish is as healthy looking as it is big!

This is a fact. It may not be necessary but if I'm largie fishing up shallow(<4') and tight to the boat(flipping docks, wood, etc.), I'll put my graphs on standby. That turns off two transducers from clicking away.

Transducers absolutely have a shelf life and need replacing. If the transducer is older than say, 6-8 years, depending on the use it's seen it may need replaced. If possible, try another transducer manually to see if it works.

Before deciding on marine plywood, I'd suggest evaluating a few other things such as the overall age of the boat and how long he wants to keep it. I had the same look on my face when my 82 year old neighbour paid a premium for 50 year shingles lol The boat is a 1980, ok...what about everything else? Motor? The flooring should be the longest lasting item on a boat from a cost perspective. Properly sealed plywood or pressure treated(under carpet) might just outlast the rest of a 1980 boat...and save him some money. jmho Good luck!
