MB, I applaud your convictions! That said, if you were a member of NFN, I think your take on the situation would be different. Over the years that the Nip situation has been burning away, we have learned that it is by far the minority of NFN that are "abusing" the lake. This select few have had virtually free rain on the lake, with the senior members of the group, endorsing their efforts. We have a member here who has given us some insight as to the workings of the group. We have also been told that people who are against the netting and therefore potentially affecting some of the groups income, could expect reprisals should they speak too loudly. It's a mess and will continue to be a mess until either leadership at NFN changes or the lake simply collapses. We all know that there is simply no political will to make any kind of change, at any government level. Finding the guilty parties with regard to the ghost nets is a baby set in the right direction. I don't expect any harsh repercussions as a result of court time, but at the very least, they may have reduced the number of ghost nets floating and killing across the lake. HH

I don't believe that they make power dive's any more... great Quinte fall lure. Op, I like different cranks depending mostly on time of year/water temps. Warm water above 60F, a tight wobbling crank like the above mentioned Power Dives or a Shad R etc... Cold water, below 60f down to freeze, a wider wobbling bait like a Mann's Stretch 20 or 30 tail dancer etc... HH

Thanks for the help everyone! HH

Based on our departure time from T.O., I expect us to roll in to the Sault around midnight. If that makes any difference? HH

Thanks 10point, but I would rather not deal with the border crossing and the inherent issues, especially since we will be packed to go right onto the plane. With my luck, they would take my Flex apart and leave us with a 100 piece jig saw puzzle to put back together! HH

Who knew! Thanks for posting this John... now what to do with those slices of lime! HH -
Our fly in trip has been moved up a day, giving us an extra day at the lake! Thanks White River Air!!!!!! We will be spitting the drive up from Hog Town and are planning on spending the night in the Sault Thursday night, then off to White River for our mid afternoon flight in. Hoping to garner some local info re a cheap, but clean hotel for Thursday night. Many thanks in advance... HH

Gerritt, you have a beautiful wife and baby that need you, do what the doc say and you will be around for them as long as they need you. Take care and get well. HH

Hey MB2, looks good... but you forgot the slice of red pepper in the rollie! It gives the rollie a sweetness that balances the slightly bitter taste of the asparagus. HH

Funny enough, I got a call this morning from a guy claiming to be working for the financial institution that I do my banking with. He claimed that my card had been compromised, but when I queried him for details, he couldn't answer my questions. I hung up and call my financial institution and there are no compromises on any of my accounts or cards. Just a heads up- if you get a call like that, hang up and call you bank yourself, using the number on the back of your card. At least then, you will know who you are talking to and will be able to sort out who is who and protect yourself. HH

Port Bruce or Port Stanley off the piers should get you into some perch. Minnows and spreaders are the ticket. Both are less than an hour from London. Also, the beaches are pretty good for the family, just watch the under-tow on wavey days. HH

I made Brian's concoction for dinner last night. I altered the recipe Brian posted a bit, by adding Dijon mustard and I changed the cheese to Swiss. Two pounds of bacon wrapped the whole thing up and I made gravy with the drippings. Turned out quite good, the family really enjoyed it and I am sure I will make it even better next time... Thanks Brian! HH

That all sounded good to me Chris, until I got to the bug part, you lost me there! LOL Enjoy my friend... HH

I bet the Bayliner didn't see you guys because his bow was sticking up in the air and he was not being very attentive to his situation. Glad everyone was ok, but if he had hit me, Bayliner boy would be getting someone else to chew his food for a while! HH

I got a PM the other day requesting this simple recipe for asparagus and Prosciutto. Marinate the asparagus in the following, for at least two hours, refrigeration not required. I like to use a zip lock bag to hold everything. -about a pound of asparagus, washed and dried off -1/2 cup of olive oil -1/4 cup of balsamic vinegar -a table spoon of both kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper -sweet red pepper cut to roughly the same diameter as your asparagus spears -as much chopped garlic as you like Combine these ingredients and let sit for at least two hours. (I sometimes will also add a firm, smoked cheese, again, cut into spears, the same size as the asparagus.) You do not need to marinate the cheese! Roll three or four asparagus spears (depending on how big they are) with a spear of the pepper and a spear of the cheese in one slice of prosciutto, ensuring that if you are using cheese, that the cheese is in the middle of the roll. Hold it all together with a tooth pic. Grill the "rollie" at med to high heat, until the prosciutto browns and the cheese is starting to melt. I sometimes will add a cherry tomato onto the ends of the tooth pic to make it look nicer! I would advise anyone who makes this, to make more than you think you will need as I have NOT had anyone who has tried this, not request more! Funny story here about this recipe... it was my first ever Quinte GTG with OFNer's and I was sharing a cottage with FishnSled. I made these rollies, along with a steak and some potatoes and FnS just loved it! Next door, Terry, Wayne and I think Dano were sharing a cottage and since I had many left overs, I thought I would offer them to the boys. They loved them as well and I came to learn that Leah had been trying for years to get Wayne to eat asparagus, to no avail. The first time I met Leah, she congratulated me for getting Wayne to eat it... and I think he really did like it! Enjoy.... sorry, I don't have a pic for you, but I think some others who I have shared this recipe with in the past, might have some pics! HH

Thanks again everyone! Brian, I couldn't in good faith deprive you of your smelt! That said, a good feed of smelt would certainly curb my appetite for a few days! LOL Mike, do let un know how your trip went... Counting the days!!!! HH -

Thanks for all the responses folks! Much appreciated! We are flying out of White River Air and fishing Jembi (SP) Lake. Leaving the middle of July for four days. Drew, I'm sure we'll have a report up upon our return. Hoping to feast on the Pickereye every day and maybe find us some gators lookin for a lickin! HH -
I'll be going on my first ever fly in, in about a months time. The boys I am going with have been providing me with insight as to what I need and to be sure to keep things light. Thanks Will! I'm just wondering if any of you have something that you find in-valuable on a fly in, that doesn't normally get packed by others. Yah, I'm a little bored on a rainy Friday afternoon but thought it would be interesting to hear what you folks have to say. Many thanks for your contributions. HH

Yah got me hungry and I just ate lunch!!! The Prosciutto/Asparagus is a keeper for sure... HH

Joey, I would trim the fat off those chops. Also, consider also adding some roasted peppers to that "rollie". They look great! When I use chops for this type of thing, I usually butterfly them, then beat the crap out of them. Be sure to use saran wrap when you are beating them as it helps to stop them from sticking to the mallet and creating dead spots. Also, try Panko crumbs for a crunchier coating. (Although your looks pretty crispy to me!) Spiel, those ribs look fantastic!!!!!! HH Edit to add... why not add an asparagus spear or two to that rollie!
