  1. Congrats! Quite an accomplishment given todays marriage success rate... a fine lookin family I'm sure your proud of! Best wishes and fishes HH
  2. Just pretend you are at the BOQ and all will be well! HH
  3. I find people jobs for a living! My best advice to you is to find something that you really enjoy and stick with it! You are young enough to be able to make some mistakes, without it affecting your "career". Money should not be an object of concern at this time, because if you don't like what your doing, the money will never be enough... conversely, if you love what you do, the money will not matter. One last consideration... pick a field or industry that has longevity... working in the automotive industry might not be the best long term decision! HH Ps... I always remember something my mom told me many years ago... work with your brain, not your back... the brain lasts longer!
  4. That was a fun read... thanks for that and yes, Bill is mature beyond his years and a shining example of what today's youth should be like! Good on yah Bill and keep at it John... maybe marshmellows would have helped! LOL HH
  5. Congrats on the haul! It appears as though I'm getting a new power washer as mine has bit the biscuit, so to speak... I wonder it it will help me out with my fishin issues?! HH
  6. The splash well works very well based on my experience (with my wife). Gernerally though, when I take my wife fishing with me, she prefers to be dropped off on an island, to sun bathe and swim, so that takes care of that... but she will also jump up on shore and hide behind a tree... she won't get in a boat outside of the summer months so the fall and spring weather don't come into play. HH
  7. Thanks All! I'm doing some investigating! HH
  8. http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warnings/warnings_e.html Be sure to take care and cover should Momma Nature pick your spot on the planet to whack the crap out of.... HH
  9. Thanks guys.... keep 'em coming! HH
  10. Hey Guys/gals! I have finally been able to clear up some time in August, for a one week family vacation to somewhere in our fine province! We have two young'ins, 6 and 4 and my wife and I are looking for a kid friendly place, within 3-4 hours of Toronto, that will be accommodating to my kids needs, (beach, dock etc...) and my desire to get them out in a boat, catch pan fish, swim etc... . This will be our first family trip to "the north" as we have historically played at the beach on Lake Huron. I could use some suggestions, from those of you who have been or are currently in the same boat as me... not looking for really high end, just your typical cottage, where I won't have to worry too much about an unforgiving shore line, where the kids may get hurt, playing. I am open to any and all suggestions and appreciate you time spent in responding! HH
  11. Let me guess, you caught that on the first cast!LOL Nice slab brother... funny how my phone didn't ring on Saturday morning! I'll talk to yah before you leave Will... HH
  12. I had a blast as usual Will and I'm lookin forward to doing it again! Real soon! HH
  13. Garry is very correct as far as I can tell... another theory that I've been working with is as follows; Fish expell a great deal of energy when they chase food and they must make up their mind very quickly, if the amount of energy they require to catch a meal, is more than they will get back consuming the food. An easy mark is almost always going to get interest... I equate it to some degree, to a lesson I learned at Wild Cat World in Orno... the keeper there told me that a tiger will almost never attack if it's quarry if it is facing them... they have concerns that their prey could cause them more damage then the resulting meal is worth to them... he showed us by turning his back on the tigers (he had a fence between him and the big cats) and they literally jumped at him, the moment his back was turned... as soon as he turned back toward them, they backed off... I think that nature has instilled these survival techniques on many of it's citizens, fish included. HH
  14. Thanks for the report... nice read there... may I suggest trolling one of these to get you more Pickereyes this year? http://www.rapala.com/products/luresdetail...Both&live=1 A long cast and about 1.5 miles an hour should net you some fish... just be sure to use the smaller version in the spring and get bigger as the season rolls along! Good luck! HH
  15. That FishnSled sure is a silver tongued devil, isn't he! Nice job guys! And very nice of Bly to let ya out of paintin... I thought at first that FnS was droppin by to help pick up a paint brush... perhaps next time, leave Will at your place and take Bly out instead... I know I would!LOL HH
  16. WGSP are fine table fair, under the right conditions. As mentioned, it has mainly to do with the water they are coming from. They are also, one of the first fish to become parasite hosts, with many having those little black specks in them, that so many of us find so appetizing! I usually scale them, fillet and into the grease they go... clean Rockies are great eating! HH
  17. Same here Will... maybe they didn't pay the bill at work! HH
  18. Art, well said... to the others who have obviously not ever taken out a charter, have not worked a charter and have no insight into the business... you have shown you ignorance on the topic... perhaps you should hold back your comments, until you've actually experienced it! Every charter I've been on I have seen how hard they folks work and have seen the cash outlay they have made in order to provide the customers with the best possible fishing experience. Funny, I have a good buddy who charters and he tells me his business is driven mainly by the good folks south of the border, mainly because Canadians just can't wrap their head around paying to go fishing... which seems to be verified by many on this thread. HH PS... I for one certainly prefer the $150,000.00 boat, when I'm out on Lake O in 5 footers!
  19. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: HH
  20. The cost of doing business is huge in chartering and I'm not at all surprised by the numbers provided by the folks on this thread. It's a competitive business and customers will demand the $150k boat and all the bells and whistles. And, if your chartering on any of the big lakes, you need those tools! As far as tipping is concerned, I have to agree with what most have said... 10-20% doesn't seem unreasonable. HH

  22. Did anyone else notice that the refs seemed to have become fans with the best seat in the house? Man, there were un-called penalties from the 10 minute mark of the third until the end of the game. Now, before you all come down on me for that statement, I prefer a wide open game, but holy clutch, grab, hold, trip... dude that scored the tying goal took a cross check to the head right after it went in... Looking forward to 7 games and watchin Gary Roberts carry the cup again... I'll just pretend he's wearing a leaf uniform under his Penns jersey! HH
  23. Cranksbait is correct... my wife's cousin lived in Jasper for 30 years and never left the house for a trip in the woods without her bells! She is an avid climber and most times, spent her time alone on the mountain. The most dangerous thing one can do with bears is catch them by surprise, it will put them in defense mode very quickly. Carrying bells with you lets the bear hear you well before you encounter it face to face and they will tend to run away before you even knew they were there. HH
  24. I'd recommend equipping the kids with bear bells... they will certainly help keep them away, but pepper spray will help as well. HH
