  1. Hey Dabluz, that's a great idea re the drill! I had not thought of that! Gonna giver a go tonight, i hope as I did find a spool of 5 colours in my line box! Thanks again to all, especially U.B for the Pm! HH
  2. I like to use lead core for worm harnesses... you can virtually dial in the bottom and can easily adjust depth simply by speeding up or slowing down the boat or reeling or letting line out. Just be sure to use a good leader material. Also as lead core is no-stretch, you won't miss many bites. HH
  3. Thanks Slowpoke... if you do by chance find that backing info, it sure would be helpful. I've done the "lets figure out" how much backing/core thing before and after you have spooled, unspooled re-spooled etc.. etc... a few times, you find yourself wondering if you need to re-invent the wheel again or not! Thanks again.. HH BTW - I have been using a 309 with ten colours and your right, it is a work out! But, it sure does help to keep you warm in those late fal, early winter jaunts to the mighty Q!
  4. Agreed Kirk! Funny though, we had all of our kids I.D. with us, including OHIP (yah just never know) and they had no interest in looking at the documents. To the others who have suggested other parks, thanks for that! But, we were looking at a day trip, not a weekend thing. HH
  5. Firstly, sorry for the non-fishing post, but I thought I'd let the community know about my experience on Friday at Canada's Wonderland. I took the day off work in an effort to avoid the crowds at Wonderland. Myself, my wife and my 6 year old and 4 year old decided to make it a day. Upon arriving, I found out that my 6 year old son is going to cost me "adult fare" as he is one inch over 48 inches! The difference in price is $38.00 under 48 inches and $53.00 for over 48 inches. I can't believe what I'm hearing at this point. I said to the guy, he's 6 years old, how can he possible be seen as an adult? He's over 48 inches in height and therefore based on "park policy" he has to be charged as an adult. Ok, so for any of you who have young kids, you know that my first inclination was to turn around and walk away, but with the kids there, I just couldn't. So, roughly $180.00 later we are in the park. In total, I believe I spent close to $400.00 on Friday, but this issue really stuck in my craw! I called customer service today to register a complaint and was handed the same line, all the way up to manager of customer service. My suggestion to any considering a trip to C.W.... consider Ontario Place of Marineland as C.W. has no concern for their customers or for doing the right thing... only concern is for the mighty buck! HH
  6. Nice report and fishies! Just wondering though, did any of those Bow's survive? The reason I'm asking is that last year I was out and virtually every Bow succumbed to the warm water at the surface of the lake... we had to keep everything or waste it. Did you experience the same thing? HH
  7. TJ, we'll be at Golden Eagle from Aug 9-16th! My brother and his kids are joining us till the 14th. Really lookin forward to gettin out of the big stink/smoke and enjoying all the good things up there! HH
  8. Thanks for the responses folks! I was figuring on 5 colours as well, but since the reel looks a bit bigger than my Okuma, (holds 5 colours and backing) I was hoping to put more lead on that reel. Keep 'em coming, especially if you have used this reel for this application in the past. Thanks, HH
  9. Nice report and pics! Looks like the boys had a great time... Avery looks like he's been drinking a lot of chocolate milk as he has a milk mustache in every pic! LOL HH
  10. A neighbour of mine dropped off two reels for me on the weekend. She was helping her building operations person clean out an old storage compartment in her building and spotted two rods leaning up against a wall. She has been trained to keep an eye out for any and all things fishing related and came through for me this day. I received two steel line trolling rods, both five footers and a Compac reel as well as a Penn 209! Now, I'm thinkin of spooling the 209 with lead core and was wondering if anyone has done this with this reel and if so, how many colors of core will the reel take and how much backing do you have on the reel? Yah, I know I'm being lazy and could figure it out on my own, but I would much rather use my time as wisely as possible! Thanks for lookin! HH
  11. I have two Okuma Convectors and one Diawa Sealine, The Sealine is pushing 15 years old and I have NEVER had any issue with it at all. Now, when I was looking at buying two more line counter reels, it was suggested that I look at the Convector's as they are a bit cheaper, $30.00 roughly then the Sealines. I bought two. Well, the anti-reverse switch on both of them is hit and miss at best. I usually use them for trolling boards or lead core and have had BOTH of them screw up on me under load. Not what I'm looking for in a reel at all. On the positive side, I like the extra large handle on the Okuma, feels good and strong while your winching in, but in reality, if I had removed the pin in my butt (it holds my wallet very tightly to my butt) and coughed up the extra $30.00 per reel for the Sealine, I would have three excellent reels that I can feel confident, I'll be passing along to my kids one day. At this point, I have confidence that I'll be passing one reel down to my kids, and a couple of very shiny paper weights! HH
  12. Great report and now I must say that I am really Jonesin as my family and I are heading up there this Saturday! Thanks again for the info Jason, as far as the phone is concerned... live and learn! HH
  13. Also, sorry for the double post, I would suspect that the frame of the pool will be intact, at least most of it as breaking up the concrete, just to bury it would seem to me to be too much un-required work and I know that I would be inclined to do a little as possible to it, in order to bury it. But unfortunately, you won't know until you dig. Perhaps another consideration is to hire help yourself to do the excavating as from my experience, pool dudes don't like to dig and will charge you tons to do it... maybe you could find some students to dig it out and then have the pool dudes in. HH
  14. Hey Flexrod... I don't know how much research you have done on the saltwater systems, but if the pool is as big as you say it is at 20 x40, you may want to consider getting a price on the system first. My pool is 18 x36, one of the biggest residential sized pools available, your would be bigger. I went through many considerations this spring as I had to replace my pump and filter system and did consider very seriously, a salt water system. Wow, the price difference was enormous! Plus, what many won't tell you is that there is a shelf life for those systems, they last for about 5 years, give or take, so ... consider that before you make the change. Good luck! HH
  15. As a pool owner, a couple of things come to mind... 1. BE sure that your municipality is made aware of your plans... here, I believe you need a permit to fill in a pool and may require one to "re-open one". 2. It seems to me anyway, that it would be cheaper to try and re-open the existing pool as you will only have to excavate the filler. Should you be looking at a complete build out, you will also have to remove the existing concrete, before you can start pinning a new one! HH
  16. I have to agree with Cliff... as this is the Friday before the long weekend, plus, we are in the middle of July, with a ton of people already out on holidays, my crystal balls says that traffic will be comparatively light. That being said, your gonna find the 401 to be busy with folks doing the same thing you are vs commuting to work. Stay in the "core" lanes, tune into AM680 for traffic every ten minutes, put some padding on yer steering wheel and give 'er a go! HH
  17. Yup, we were about due for one of these threads... been about two or three months since the last one... so I guess this makes Roy and company somewhat like Walmart greeters! HH
  18. Similar scenario... I was tossing jigs on Quinte, fishin Eye's in a tournament and I tossed it right to the edge of a drop off and let it sink. As it was dropping, I saw a V wake blasting it's way to my jig. I thought for sure it was a Pike driving towards my jig... it hammered it! Six lb line and the fight was on... buddy is dripping with anticipation, holding the net, until old bugle lips (I like that name by the way!) shows it's hideous mug at the side of the boat! I'm somewhat surprised that my cursing has finally subsided! lol HH
  19. You Sir, are now covered! All of the above info is dead on... well done OFC'ers! HH
  20. Welcome... anyone who posts a pic of "The WGSF" in their first post, obviously belongs here! Welcome and lookin forward to more great pics! HH
  21. Cliff, you will hit 300ft of water at around the 12 mile mark! You may want to consider the "deep spool" for that amount of line! HH
  22. Those fish are abundantly available right now in 360 feet of water.... and no one to push you out of the way and nothing but blue sky and tons of open water! And it's virtually impossible to line them" HH
  23. WTG Jim... very impressive! HH
  24. Ok... two more and still at number 8... come on folks vote for Joey... if you've met her, you know why your doing it... if you haven't, you will one day and you will kick yourself for not stepping up to the plate to help this great lady out... Tybo not with standing! LOL HH
  25. Gerritt's the best, man... glad it's workin out for yah... and yes this place is a very special place. Huggs all around! HH
