Everything that life hands can be seen as an obstacle or an opportunity. It's been my experience in the employment industry (pushing 20 years now ) that those who grab that latter and run with it, will succeed... those who don't, well they have to be lucky... I have connected with Stoty in the past and will say that he will land on his feet... I've got my ears open for yah bud! HH

My office is a few blocks from the Church street pawn shops and I'm in there atleast once a week... I have yet to find a "deal" in any of them! I see some good equipment, but they have virtually priced the stuff out of it's real current market value! I have my eye on a bass, but they want a grand for it and in reality, it's really only worth about $500.00. They are prepared to let it hang there for as long as it takes! So, it won't be coming home with me! HH Ps... does this mean your not going to sell me that Ricky at a OFC reduced rate??????

I hear ya JWL, however, I'm pretty sure that an 18K car will not be worth more in ten years than that Les Paul! It's sad actually that high end instruments are so out of reach for the average player. HH

Well, we have a somewhat similar idea here in Toronto... the service is definately not as good but the burgers have the meat concept down pat! http://www.dangerousdansdiner.com/ The 24 oz burger is nice, but I prefer the "The Coronary Burger Special, although I will admitt to a keen fondness for the BEEF RIBS! Yah Cliff, my first bass was a sunburst Ricky, 4003. (They stopped production of the 4001 in the mid 80's and replaced it with the 4003. The later versions of the 4001 had some neck/truss rod issues, so Rickenbacher decided to release the 4003. It has a chunkier neck, but virtually the same design as the 4001.) Mine had some fairly serious truss rod problems, so I ended up selling it in the mid 80's. Still love the tone of a Ricky, but find them to be something of a one trick pony... but it's a pretty good trick, IMHO! Currently there is a TWO year waiting list to receive a new Ricky from the factory. Used ones are selling in the $2k +++++ range! Great bass for what they do, and man, are they sexy looking! HH PS... Geddy hasn't used a Ricky for recording since Moving Pictures and most of the album was recorded using his '73 Jazz. He did have a short period of time using a Wal (serious gass pains for that, but starting at 5K, way out of my range.) Geddy now has a signature bass, from Fender. It's a made in Japan Jazz bass, retailing for around a grand. Nice neck, but really noisey pick ups.

Any chance of you parting with the 4001? Ricky's on my GAS list!LOL HH

Thanks Terry and Sinker! My main concern is snow depth, I don't want to get my truck stuck, that more work than I care for! If the snows too deep, well I'm back to the same problem! Man I'm gettin lazy as I get older! HH

Hey Folks! Considering getting out on Cooks Bay on Sunday and have a couple of conditions questions: 1) Anybody driving their vehicles on Cooks yet? (4X4) 2) How much snow is on Cooks now? Thanks, HH

U.B., welcome to the world of the employer! As I mentioned earlier, the laws in this province are skewed towards the employee... You are not hiring machines, your hiring people and we all know that people are nuts! LOL HH
-
Wayne, you could use the plane to "blow out" the driveway! HH

Not likely Beans... it's simply not worth it to a company to pursue these types of things. It's too expensive, even for companys that have legal retainers. Most will chalk it up to experience... and some folks wonder why companies take so long making hiring decisions? You can expect the life cycle of a hire to be even longer in this economic slow down... every hire is now under a microscope. HH

Well, my son and I have been tunnelling in the snow banks for weeks! He's loving it and I'm having a blast spending quality time with him... although admittedly, I'm starting to get tired of shovelling! Atleast we didn't get the ice storm our neighbours to the south did... that looked nasty and even more so for folks who aren't used to this kind of weather. HH

It's the way of the world ChrisS! There are reasons for it, some valid, others, well, I think you can surmize what I'm getting at... it's typically people who expect to get more out of life, than they are willing to put into it.. if ya get my meaning! HH

Great report Wayne! I think I prefer Joey's report with that Froot Loops money shot! As we mark Pickereys on Quinte in 70-100 feet of water, I'm not that surprised you got them that deep up there. Looks like a fun time.... HH

HR always has to justify their existence... they do not generate revenue for their company directly so they have to justify to the powers that be that they are necessary... Funny how a clerk who makes between $35K and $50K can make a hiring decision for a $100K plus position!? LOL HH PS.. re probationary periods... I believe that there are laws in place regarding these, and that in some situations, a probationary periods beyond legislation within their jurisdiction are illegal... just not a comonly know thing!

Brian, try cooking the duck down first, then use the duck fat to fry the Pike... HH

Ok, I guess I did then! I have never heard of a company persuing another re a good reference for a bad employee... that's again, why I said earlier that references are not worth the time they take to do! HH
-
You couldn't be more wrong Toronto Angler! (I'll take that bet!!!!!) There have been many and I do mean many lawsuits filed and won as a result of one company giving a bad reference to another company regarding a former employee. That employee, upon getting wind of the situation, has successfully sued the former employer. That is why, as I mentioned earlier, that a large number of my clients REFUSE to give references. The morality of the situation has little to do with this... these are business decisions made at the upper management level, in an effort to stave off potential litigation. The policy is in the company's employee hand book! Also, remember that in most cases, courts will find in favour of the individual vs the large corporation. It's the way of the world. Companies are simply making efforts to eliminate any and all potential law suits. Is it right, well that really comes down to your own personal convictions, but again those don't add up to a hill of beans when your standing in front of a judge! HH
