Back when we had the cottage, pump always turned off as well as hot water tank when we left. Flooding was not in the picture. I guess your situation could of been a lot worse. Thank goodness it wasn't!. We also have hard water here. My gas hot water heater is the third one now in16 years. Both previous times water coming out the bottom flooding the basement.Thankfully we were home.

I always heard anything up to #3 was the ticket. Most say smaller is better.

Could be old gas,but maybe your float screw,or float is sticking part way?Keep priming while it's running and try and get some fresh fuel in there. Just a thought.No priming ball I guess. Fouled plug?

I think when your nearing the end of the term and not sure what is going to happen because you let it go so long is more the confusing time. This set up is new to me. After the replies and a little more digging,your right,it doesn't seem so difficult now. How about the license system be changed as follows G2,G1,G. Just sayin! lol. My son was reading off another ministry site I believe,and what it said was as long as you get your G2 before the 5 year G1 cutoff date. $45.00 extends it for another 5 years.
