I have read that hot peppers, crushed chillies will keep the squirrels away. To the birds the seeds are not hot so they will eat them. Guess it's worth a try?

Compression test, try to verify that it was not used in salt water. Obvious physical signs of abuse. Start it if possible. If you buy used from a reputable dealer get warranty info and make sure bottom end oil is good.

No. I used to years ago. I found that it also attracted rodents and stopped it. Also gave some species a reason to hang around and nest in places I wished them not to nest in, like my roof air vent after they pulled the screening out to make a nice cosy home.

I've seen people cartop 12'ers and they had a pair of dolly wheels mounted on top of the 2 transom corner brackets. Take the boat down off the roof and hold it up off the ground by the bow (upside down) and wheel it down to the water. When you get there flip the boat over and there ya go!

Gerritt, My parents, both 80+ years, somehow managed to have a contract with them a couple of years ago. Both of them swear up and down that they did not sign a contract with Direct Energy. My mother searched through all her files to no avail and they had no clue whatsoever that they had one until they received a notice to re-sign. They were paying a higher price per m3 than I was with union gas. I called Union Gas and told them, they told me to ask Direct for a copy of a contract as they have to comply. Guess what? Yep they could not produce a copy of a signed contract. Even so we still had to put it in writing to completely cancel the it, even though the contract had expired! If it was not in writing then they have the right to continue on as the supplier, without a contract and at a much higher price than Union Gas. I wish that we still had the old system of just one supplier. Just my opinion but I don't trust the second or third party providers, never have and I am even more suspicious now. I hope that if any OFC'rs are employed by Direct Energy I haven't offended you, but this is not a good deal.

I couldn't find it either. The only one that I could get onto was for a store in NY State, U.S prices.

Who's Spouse/better half fishes with them?
pikehunter replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
Yep, she does, but not every time. She went to the Grand R. once or twice last year and we had a weekend on Couchiching last summer nailing the perch. Funny thing is...she often catches more than my son or I -
Niagara on the Lake to require special fishing permits
pikehunter replied to bigfish1965's topic in General Discussion
I just opened an email response from NOTL counselor Jim Collard. Here is a copy of it, although I'm sure that all who sent him an email in protest to this proposal will receive the same. March 3, 2007 Gentlemen Sorry for the late response this time. I know your disappointment. As a sometimes fisherman, I know the joys and sorrows of sport fishing. In fact, as I write this I am in Florida and can not wait to get my license here to fish for blues etc., from the shore. Surf fishing is a blast. Last time I did it however I was unlucky and only got a small shark and cat. Enough about me. I hope you will take the time this summer to visit the small lot in question. Please note that this lot is not a park. I believe it is zoned institutional for use later on as a Ferry site. You will see that it is adequate at best for fishing. Only a 100' or so wide and 50 deep with limited or no parking and zero washroom facilities its primary focus is a wonderful view of the river and Fort Niagara in particular. Again, the town is hoping that a cross river ferry will be established in 2008/09 which would eliminate it's use for fishing altogether. This November we will be completing a shore line protection project on a small parkette just north of Riverbeach road. Altogether we will be establishing a 500' passive park right on the river. Plans for this parkette shore protection are available at the town's Parks and Recreation Office located at the arena. I know you understand our dilemma and recognize that what ever happens here will be short term. If the Ferry service does not materialize, we will take another look at the possible uses for this land. Kindest regards Jim Collard councilor, NOTL -
You're right! That was exactly 2 years before I was born, March 1956. But as many of us has said, the show isn't the same as it used to be although it is also true that many things haven't changed! Good movie clip thanks for posting.

No prob Chris S. I didn't intend to sound as harsh as I did, my apology. We all do crazy things when frustrated. But did you see some irony in my line about anger management? I'm shooting off my mouth about you loosing your cool and in the next breath I'm saying I'd fire away at anybody chewing up my lawn Talking about anger management
-
Should I keep my mouth shut? Should I reply? Crap, I can't keep it shut! You really do need some anger management lessons. Maybe the home owner or a neighbour got your plate number. If you drove across my lawn like that it would be shoot first and ask questions later, there are no excuses for this action. But trust me, I have been there too and have done some pretty stupid things out of anger and impatience. Maybe a higher tolerance level only comes as we mature? You are driving in very bad weather and road conditions. Just face the fact that you are not going to get anywhere in a hurry or on time. Plane simple fact. Don't carp at the other drivers for their inadequacies, I'm sure you are not a perfect driver yourself, after all you just admitted that you drove over a lawn Some people just don't know how to drive, period. They are nervous, over cautious and a down right pain in the ass! But since I have to share the road with them, and with the over ambitious drivers I have learned to cope with them...although maybe only somewhat Next time just take it easy, you will get there. If it is that bad find an alternate route or maybe just go into Horton's and get a coffee...decaf that is. I hope you have a good explanation if the boss calls you in. Guess I'm going to get lots of flack over these comments...should have kept my hands off the keyboard. Have a great and safe day everyone.
-
I agree, can't stand them. They don't make me puke though because I just refuse to watch them. They just have too much of this And they are just plane boring.

You clean fish!!!! :w00t: I just bring them home and tell my wife to clean them! She tells me to go to h3ll and I say "But that's what they used to do, the man hunts and fishes, brings the catch home and the woman cleans it." In the end the fish somehow get cleaned Truthfully, there is no quick and easy way, just get out the fillet knife and get it honed to a fine edge and go to town. Now if you want me to come over to show you how you're supposed to eat them I cn be there in about 3 minutes.

Niagara on the Lake to require special fishing permits
pikehunter replied to bigfish1965's topic in General Discussion
I can feel how the neighbour concerned has an issue with noise and trash. But what about the rest of the thousands of visitors to NOTL? I'm sure they must create some noise, traffic congestion, pollution and of course a mountain of trash, some of which surely ends up blowing along the street in the wind. I agree that too many fishermen abuse our land and waterways. But the few fishermen to this community must be a minute percentage of the visitors. I guess we just don't spend enough money there to be accepted. -
You better not get all liqoured up and happen to bump into a wall!! "cause we're going to be reading about how the house had it out for you.

response to email to NOTL town council
pikehunter replied to pikehunter's topic in General Discussion
Copy of my my response to the above mentioned letter from Jim Collard: Dear Jim, Thank you for your speedy reply to my concern. But I still disagree that any municipality can enact such fees to out of towners. Don't forget the fact that you have a tourist based economy in Niagara and this does not go over very well with us "outsiders." I have never shorefished from any location in NOTL, I am only speaking for those that do. I can understand your concerns with noise and trash, but this is probably no more of a problem than what you experience in the rest of your community. Don't forget that fishermen and women do spend tourist dollars also. Truly, -
I just opened this email in response to Rick's thread regarding the non resident fishing permit requirement. I just thought I would pass it along. Dear Sir Please be aware that this is a small piece of land about 100’ X 50 where we have had challenges with security and so have the neighbours. This land is not designated as a park and it is hoped that it will soon be used by Canada Customs as a secure area for cross river ferry traffic. I believe that once cross river traffic begins the land will restricted to all except those going into the United States via the ferry. Please note that we do not restrict fishing on any other property in the town. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us. Woke up at around 5:30 this morning and could here drip..drip..drip..drip. The leaky trough(gutter) dripping on the aluminum awning over the bedroom window. So I got up, turned on the tube and flicked through the channels. Found the weather on a Buffalo channel, it was 38 degrees there and 39 in Hamilton. Spring is here?
