:clapping: :clapping: Maybe this thread has allowed an emergency worker somewhere the good fortune to return home to his or her family tomorrow safely in one piece. It is a good thread that possibly has opened up some eyes to the danger that drivers impose if this law is not understood correctly.

Several officers have been killed or injured from cars/trucks that don't proceed with caution when lights are flashing. Many, many moons ago I drove a tow truck, what a thankless job that was! I and my buddy came close many times to getting hit while on the shoulder of the QEW. I tell you an emergency vehicle can have every flashing light they could squeeze onto their car or truck and the public would still be oblivious to the fact that there is a potential danger present! :wallbash: Move over people and give these folks a break!

There was a $2 off coupon in the Sun a few days ago. Just take the 60 or more bucks you'll spend and go to LeBaron and BPS and make a day out of it. Spend what you save on fast food and gear.

Do you sign the back of your credit cards?
pikehunter replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Some do. My wife has a Citibank Mastercard that she got before Canada Trust was bought by TD Bank and she kept it and never took out the new card from CT TD Bank. She has had her photo on it for years now. All of them should have. -
When I was a kid my father would use frogs on occasion. I can remember trying to hook one once and I think I gave up. Couldn't bring myself to stick a hook through it. Guess I'm also another softy.

Ya all know that all that white stuff we got is actually on account of you southerners ya know! If you'd keep all that moisture from your Gulf of Mexico down there where it all belongs instead of sendin' it up here so that it can mate with our cold air and start breedin' snowflakes it just wouldn't snow so damn much! And your just gunna do it all again come summer time...start sendin' that hot humid Gulf air up north and make us sweat and swat mosquitoes all summer long! Guess I gotta blame someone whistling.gif Glad you didn't get hit hard like your neighbours a few miles west of you. Saw an 18 wheeler sliding along the highway jack-knifed on an Alabama highway on the news, he must have slid along 1000 feet or more! Betcha the cab of his truck smelled real pretty after he crapped his pants pulling that stunt!

Meant to post this on the 28 picture thread.... So it's over there now

Nice set of pictures, making me envious after spending half of today cleaning up snow! You getting any of that white stuff on the ground that Texas and Arkansas got today?

A novel idea. I'm sure there are others in the planning stages as we watched the video. With more trials and thought it could work. I don't cherish the idea of traveling over ice, no matter how thick it may be so maybe chickenpoops like me would entertain the idea of venturing out in a similar craft? I still get a kick out of how this site self censors itself Ha ha...chickenpoops

Poseidon is a mighty god and Neptune a mighty King. Two Gods I would not want to have P.O'd at me while out on Erie in high seas and the wind howling all down the length of this great inland sea. You had better follow Roy's link and treat it as gospel! Best of luck with your new boat and many happy trips out on Erie. How about NotLandLocked? But then again, count the letters. Thirteen of them, better not try that one.

I've come to realize there's a great bunch here

It was not free, it was stolen. The cashier screwed up by not ringing it in even though it is not your friends fault the store security would have viewed it as stolen. If he was asked to produce his receipt upon leaving the store and the vest was not listed he very well could have been charged with theft under $1000. Doesn't matter if the cashier screwed up or not as the store would have looked at him square in the eye and said that he knew it was not rung in because the total definitely did not balance. A one or 2 dollar item could be overlooked as a mistake but not a hundred dollar item. So he got away with it, OK he got something for nothing, it is theft no matter how you want to turn it around to make you feel better. Say he did get nabbed what would happen next? I'll tell you: A trip down to the local cop shop for finger printing, a criminal charge followed by a visit to the lawyers office and a nice little legal bill and then time off work as you stand in front of the judge pleading innocence, "Honestly officer, I didn't know she messed up, I really did think that the vest was only a dollar or 2 and didn't notice it.". Would it have been worth it then? Don't think this could have happened? Hah! Tell it to the judge. OK anyone can make a mistake and calculate the purchase total incorrectly and be off by a small amount, but not an error like the cost on the vest. -
Looks like a Walmart manager is going to be looking for a new a job today. Like was said I would have bought the entire stock!

I can remember when LeBarons was the big tackle shop around the corner. By the looks of things they had better listen up or be swallowed up.

Repair or Trade:Need your help again
pikehunter replied to wvfisherman's topic in General Discussion
As Wayne said, or they may issue a cheque payable to both you and the repair shop in which case you would both have to sign it for cashing. I had a customer last fall in that situation where State Farm made the cheque out in both names. -
WOW! Country Style could potentially give away a whole lot of coffee with that deal. It is a good advertising gimmick if just for the publicity this promo could generate. It will be tough for them to sway those die hard lovers of Hortons coffee. Me, I'm not particularly fond of Horton's beverage and would rather drink the competitions. But as usual Hortons has all the good locations wrapped up leaving little choice so. . .

The Kind Of Story That Makes Me Cringe . . . . (NF)
pikehunter replied to Photoz's topic in General Discussion
We used to live in a Burlington townhouse with one of those centrally located mail boxes where everyone has their own locked box. So many times mail would be mixed up and would go missing. I was on compensation for some time and more than once a cheque went missing, placed in someone else's box accidentally. The first time I waited, and waited, and waited with several calls to comp and to the post office. After a week and a half comp issued a replacement cheque. The day after I got the replacement some jerk neighbour tried to stuff my lost cheque through the gap around the box's door. Guess he/she had it in their box for over a week and finally decided to check their mail and found it. (So many people in that complex would not check their mailbox for weeks at a time.) After that the same thing happened a few times but at least the persons that got our mail delivered it to us and saved us from aggravation and worrying about having money in time to pay our bills. Same as ourselves, if we happened to get a neighbour's mail we would deliver it to them. Everything was fine at this townhouse when we had a regular carrier. Then we got a notice from the P.O that our route was going to be serviced by part time carriers so we would have the same one for 2 or 3 days then a different one. The problem was that they didn't give a damn as to which box it went into and with so many different carriers they couldn't associatte names with numbers, no familiarity. Since moving to a single house our mail delivery has been decent since we usually have the same carrier all the time and this makes a big difference. I never trust the post office for any important mail anymore. If we have something important to send I will send it special delivery, certified or go out of my way to hand deliver it. BTW, with all that said I feel for our mail carriers. It isn't an easy job dealing with the aches and pains that comes along with it or having to work in some of the worst weather imaginable for little or no thanks. Having to put up with freezing icy winters and the sun baking down in the summer would be unbearable to many of us. A big "thank you" to Photoz and his fellow mail carriers is due. It's the system that doesn't always work so well, not the people out there beating the pavement. -
25 hp minimum. 30 is better and if you can swing it a 40.

Carp-Do people really throw the fish on shore as fertilizer
pikehunter replied to livinisfishin's topic in General Discussion
Don't know why the anger either Rick But I have said before that there is money to made from carp! Some people are on the edge of this tourism resource. I don't fish for them, but like you said some do. I would not toss them up on the bank myself. I did have a European neighbour when I was a kid that had the greatest garden in Burlington because every Sunday he went fishing in Bronte Creek and almost every time he would bring a carp home for the garden. For him they provided a sport, entertainment and great big strawberries and tomatoes so they didn't go to waste. -
Donate the catfish caught to the homeless. More money than the price for that statue gets wasted all the time by politicians. I think most of the funding for this is through donations from local business. I have often said the same thing as you Charlied, but who knows, maybe it will help the local downtown business in Dunnville. I really haven't formed an opinion on this myself but find the idea of a giant catfish monument somewhat hilarious and makes me think of a warmer more southern town down along the banks of a much bigger more famous muddy river. Maybe this image itself may conjure up more money for the locals and there could maybe be a couple less people on the edge of homelessness because they might keep their jobs. Well, perhaps....maybe?

Usually a stringer if keeping them. Although conking on the noggin and putting them on ice sounds better and I will do this if I happen to have ice and a cooler with me which is not always the situation. Something to think about is the commercial fishing trawlers. I think the fish nets are just brought in and the contents get dumped into the hold and the catch is kept on ice if it's lucky.
