Thanks Roy, I just bought 5 new ones. I change the whole unit every 5 years. Now, how to properly recycle the old ones?

I work in a small town, less than 20,000 pop. Just got back from a lunchtime sandwich run as I do most days. Ran into traffic on one of the main roads through town and figured it was an accident. Well, guess what, there is a vaccination clinic set up in a church hall (large church hall) with an even larger parking lot. A quick calculation figured that there had to be 500-750 in line backed up through the parking lot and waaaaay down the street. Not sure how many they could vaccinate per hour, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't only an hour or two wait! There were 3 police officers that had the road down to one lane with cruisers blocking the road with their lights flashing, not really sure what they were doing at the point, but apparently when the doors opened it was a mad free for all and they had to close up shop until the officers arrived to provide some law and order. Again, I did not see it first hand but was told that there were dozens of minivans in the parking lot each had one person waiting in line. When the church hall doors opened the minivan doors opened and everyone ran for the entrance! Was told that there was up to 8-10 people got out of some of the vans. Of course the media was there filming earlier in the day causing additional chaos. So, what is everyone's take on this? Do I work in an unusually unruly town or is this just the tip of the iceberg?

I wasn't born into it either. Dad wasn't a fishermen. His first, or second love, depending on who you ask was motorcycles and cars. My uncle, Mom's youngest brother was a fisherman and belonged to a few fishing clubs in the North of England where I grew up. He took me fishing in the rivers and streams regularly. Mostly float fishing (and you steelheaders think you invented it), and the odd fly fishing trip. We moved to a house near a pretty good 2 mile stretch of river when I was 11 and I spent almost every free moment there until girls were discovered and that spoiled everything. Another uncle, (Dad's brother), got me into sea fishing. He owned a 38' ex lifeboat that we took out to the wrecks in the North Sea in the Summer and fished off the beaches and rocks in the winter. Came to Canada when I was 21 got married, kids came soon after and didn't fish much for the first few years. Once I discovered the amazing resources that this wonderful country has, I was "hooked" once again and have been ever since. I guess I didn't get my kids into it early enough as they don't have a lot of interest, however my 9 year old grandson seem to have it in his blood.

Hi Lew, welcome back. It was really nice spending a week with you guys this summer. We have already booked for 2010, look forward to doing it again next year!

I get my fix from Minor Hockey these days. Much more entertaining and you don't have to watch a bunch of overpaid underachievers skating around for 60 minutes just going through the motions................

Dad has been gone for two years ago now but many fond memories were rekindled by your post. Until I came to Canada in 1973, we fished quite regularly together both in the trout streams for Browns and off the North East coast for Cod. I was fortunate enough to live within 1/2 hour drive of both. Our tackle back then was pretty primitive too until I scraped the money together to buy a 12 1/2' glass rod and a centre pin reel. Believe it or not the steelheaders in this board didn't invent that reel........lol. My son and daughter were never really "hooked" but my eldest grandson is becoming like I was at his age, smitten with the fishing bug. It has taken me 35 years to get my lovely wife involved but even she will now put up with a few hours of me throwing enormous muskie lures in return for a few hours of walleye or smallmouth fishing for her. Well, so far so good! It's refreshing to see a Trib Salmon thread reach 3 pages and remain civil. Kudo's to all. OK, maybe it is a put and take fishery, BUT, it is also a mindset. Those who participate in this activity are breaking the law, whether we see it that way or not. They will have the same disrespect for our resources and for others no matter where they are and at what time of year. I'm not sure whether this is better policed by the ministry or our local constabulary. By the way, if we had more transparency in where our $$ actually go once they arrive in the Provincial coffers I would gladly pay 100.00 a year for the privilege of fishing in this great Province.

I have it on two baitcasters and all I can say is that I like PowerPro and the red catches fish the same as the green. I bought it initially to try as it was cheaper then the green (the store had lots of inventory they were trying to move). I don't think I would pay a premium for it but it seems to be relatively invisible underwater to my eyes........I haven't asked the fish though.

Most of us do care Kyle. We have been through it many times with both cats and dogs and each time is no easier than the one before. It is the final act of kindness that we can do for them. I get through it by remembering how much each of them brought to our lives and that we are better people because of them.
