  1. Hasn't this been going on for years? Way before Harper became Prime Minister.
  2. That depends on your definition of economical. They will use less gas; however, the cost more upfront and you may need to replace a very expensive battery at some point. IMHO; it is not economical if the fuel savings do not exceed the extra upfront cost of a hybrid. I don't think they will be economical for the average person. Someone who has to drive in stop and go traffic all day may end up saving in the long run. I think that the people who buy them are usually doing it to reduce their carbon foot print. I don't think that hybrid boat would be fuel efficient. Boats usage does not mimic the conditions face by someone driving through a city in rush hour. Those are the conditions where a hybrid is more fuel efficient. There is one situation where I can see it being practical for a boat. If you had an electric boat with a large solar panel on top, a gas engine could be used to run a generator when the batteries were dead. If you were able to get the bulk of the energy to recharge the batteries via solar, and only rely on the gas engine for emergencies, it could end up saving fuel. Here is something that can save some energy: http://file2.answcdn.com/answ-cld/image/upload/w_688,h_457,c_fill,g_face:center,q_60,f_jpg/v1422376734/vcudvnyt2pkr50zoomr9.jpg
  3. Interesting, but I notice that the first step is to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen. This process requires electricity. The next step is to convert CO2 into CO; this process requires heat. A lot of energy will be used to produce the diesel. I know they point out that is used green energy; but that is green energy that could be used for something else. If we could just use the excess electricity to produce the "blue diesel" then it may make sense. However, if we have to generate energy specifically to produce the diesel then if probably does not make much sense.
  4. Hybrids are efficient in stop and go traffic because electric motors do not use energy when stopped and because electric motors can generate energy to charge the battery when braking. They aren't really any more efficient on the highway. I am not convinced the hydrid's efficiency in stop and go traffic would translate into a more efficient out board for a boat. It would have some merit as a backup for a solar powered boat.
  5. Are you familiar with the Trillium plan? They may cover at least part of that.
  6. I don't think that you would have to cut the cord to do that. Just connect it to a plug instead of connecting it to a battery.
  7. Can't the transducer be unplugged from the sonar? If so, then can't you just unplug before removing the motor?
  8. Are you looking at in-line planer boards; or, running them off a mast? I use in-lines; I think the brand is Yellow Bird. They work pretty good. They can be a problem in rough water, but that can be expected. These are the only ones that I have used; so I can't compare them to another brand. Otter Boats seem to be faboured brand for people who run them from a mast. I hope to have a mast set and working on my boat this summer.
  9. Here's what you need.
  10. The real issue is why did they have $38 billion of debt to begin with. All three parties contributed to the accumulation of that debt. If they weren't so far into debt to begin with, there wouldn't have been any debt to become stranded debt.
  11. Are you thinking of Darlington? The Pickering plant is located just outside of Toronto. The Pickering location is even more built up than Darlington. But the way I look at it, if residends complain about a new plant in there neighbourhood just point out that there was already one there when they bought their house.
  12. I caught a bass and a bull head fishing a pond on Brookside. A golf course that used to be in Scarborough.
  13. That is ture; however, the McGuinty/Wynne Liberals have accumulated more debt than all of the other parties combined. And their contribution to the debt is still growing.
  14. Which hydroelectric stations were sold?
  15. But it is their property that you need to cross to get to the lake. I probably wouldn't allow complete strangers to use the property around my personal house to access the lake either.
  16. After the Conservatives form another government in Ontario. Then the blame shifts to that leader.
  17. Actually, that didn't happen. The Conservatives planned on selling Hydro, but never actually did sell it. That is why it is still available for Wynne to sell now. The rest of your post does contain a lot of good points.
  18. You're right. The figures don't add up. I spent about $1,100 on gas and $1,450 on hydro in the last 12 months. They would need to save two thirds of my energy costs in order to cover the monthly payment. They supposedly guarantee the savings; I don't imagine that it would be easy to collect on that.
  19. One advantage of this deal is that the equipment would be their responsibility. If it breaks down, they will have to fix it. I am not sure that offsets the costs though.
  20. I know we have some HVAC people on the board. I am hoping to get some information on a program offered by Eco Energy Eco Energy is offering to replace my ~12 year old furnace with a new high efficiency furnace and A/C There would be no up front cost for equipment or installation. There would be a $124.95 + HST monthy charge to cover equipment rental and maintenance agreement There is also a $1,300 government rebate available for upgrading to new high efficiency appliances. They are claiming that the energy savings pay for the monthly charge. Had anybody hear dealt with Eco Energy. Are there any HVAC people that could weigh in on the claim about energy savings exceeding the $124.95 monthly charge? I currently have the orginal Carrier furnace installed in the house which was built in May of 2003. I have recently replaced the secondary heat exchanger, the fan, and the fan motor. The igniter was replaced about 2.5 years ago. I am assuming that the furnace will be good a few more years since many of the parts are new. My existing furnace is a high efficiency furnace. However, the rep claims that the efficiency of the furnace decreases by 2% a year. Thus, my furnace which was originally 90% efficient would not be 72% efficient. Can any HVAC people comment on this decrease in effiency? Assuming that the decrease in effiency with an aging furnace is true, how would a new secondary heat exchanger (I still have the original primary heat exchanger), new fan, and new fan motor affect the decrease in efficiency? Would my furnace with new parts be closer to the original efficiency? Or, closer to the 72% figure that they have provided. They are offering to install a Goodman 96% Dual Stage Gas furnace with variable ECM and a Goodman 14.5 SEER Air Conditioner Is this a good furnace? I would appreciate any information that anyone can provide on the company, equipment, etc.
  21. Perhaps people were a little hasty in declaring that there was no more snow pack to raise the water levels.
  22. I can understand their sense of betrayal with the decision. After all, they supported a party that has always kept their promises and done what is best for Ontario. They put their trust in the Liberals; and now this... Shocking!
  23. Hasn't this been a dry spring? I don't recall any significant rain fall prior to this week. I would guess that pricipitation for the season is still below normal.
  24. Great picture Brian and good to see you flying the Maple Leaf proudly. But is it legal? Flying the Canadian flag on an unregistered vessel? The Safe Boating Guide lists several benefits of registering a vessel which include, "the right to fly the Canadian flag". That would imply that owners of unregistered boats do not have this right. As long as you don't take my spot I won't say anything
  25. Are you referring to the launch on the west side of Frenchman's? Aren't they planning to improve that one?
