  1. Nice to hear. Great to see kids get out and enjoy this tradition.
  2. One tough cookie Jen is. I feel for you and your family going through all this. Perseverance bud. I hope the travel is good for you's. Cheers, Ron...
  3. Awesome photo. Easterns are very notorious for hiding themselves very well. They don't like to be seen by anything. Comical that this guy is out in the wide open yet, nearly invisible. Kewl shot. Cheers, Ron...
  4. nice! I have yet to catch a Splake. One of these days... Then again, I have only fished for them once...... Cheers!
  5. South East point of the island, small 2" tube. Not that i would know or anything... Cheers...
  6. We can change that if you like!
  7. Bill, Drive south on the 400 about 8 in the morning. Check every hydro pole, light standard, barn roof and the vegetable crates in the Holland Marsh area. There have been several spotted in that area. Snowy owls are fairly easy to spot. You want a challenge, try to find one of these..... Smaller than a Robin and they like the thick cedars... ironically, average about 4-5 ft off the ground. I have seen them in the tops of the Cedars also, just not as often.
  8. Just dropped off my genny to my sister. She lives out in the country so no amenities such as running water. She is a camper though, so no pros surviving the roughing it part. the only concern was the freezer was showing signs of thaw, (shrimp rings are always the first to thaw out). Set up genny got power to her freezer, fridge, fan for propane "wood stove", a few lights in the house and all is good to go. Hydro told her no power til the 27th.
  9. Right back at ya bud! Hope you have a great time over the holiday season. Cheers!
  10. On call Christmas day. Same as all the other years I have been self employed. Last year was special, I had an elderly lady at one of the condos call me up. She went on about how her grand children bought her this beautiful chandelier. She wanted me to install it for her Christmas day so that she could share her present with her grand kids for dinner that night.I told her "sure" but warned her about the price first. I explained to her that it's Christmas and it's time to be with your family. She politely told me that is why she wanted the light up. I then explained I have family as well, gave her the price to install as it is emergency service rates, triple time, 8 hour minimum. She decided that it wasn't that important to take me away from my family either.
  11. This one has "Christmas card" written all over it. nice shot Joey. Cheers, Ron...
  12. Glad to hear you and Danna had an excellent year out there. I am also especially glad to be part of the day on your PB. Just think though, how many fish we would catch if we took it serious out there! LOL. Cheers to a great 2013 and looking forward to what might become for 2014. Cheers, Ron...
  13. Always an interesting view from the sky. It is amazing how land marks look so different. I couldn't recognize any of it.
  14. I actually welcome the warm snaps in between making ice. It's a good thing. Melts down what snow is on the surface and flattens out the sharp edges! It takes a lot more than a couple days of warm weather to loose what ice we get. Afterall, how many days of minus temps have we had to get what we have so far? Cheers, Ron...

  17. You know Nooch? Ha ha ha First time I have seen a picture of him on the internet! I take it he is the one that switched you over to the dark side.....(plugs for bows). Oh, btw, nice collection of species you got into this year. Cheers, Ron...
  18. In the heyday of sailing ships, all war ships and many freighters carried iron cannons. Those cannon fired round iron cannon balls. It was necessary to keep a good supply near the cannon. But how to prevent them from rolling about the deck? The best storage method devised was a square based pyramid with one ball on top, resting on four resting on nine which rested on sixteen. Thus, a supply of thirty cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon. There was only one problem -- how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding/rolling from under the others. The solution was a metal plate called a "Monkey" with sixteen round indentations. But, if this plate was made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make "Brass Monkeys." Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannon balls would come right off the monkey. Thus, it was quite literally, "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey!"
  19. All seems to be good on my end as well. Firefox here too. Cheers, Ron...
  20. Right on..... The usual for us Aaron, "A day late and a dollar short". Only this time we were a day early. Water just started to clear late in the day Friday. Coulda woulda shoulda...... Cheers, Ron...
  21. The number one cause of hot water failures is: People do not regularly drain their tank on at least a yearly basis. When we bought our house 26 yrs ago, I had to replace NG tank. The side rotted out from lack of service. I faithfully flush tank once a year. We are on town water so there is little solids/calcium that accumulate. Tank is still as good as the day we installed it. Myself Cliff, I would purchase tank outright, and flush the tank once every 6 months. If you find lots of build up/solids, calcium, flush more often. If you find that the tank water is fairly clear, flush it out once a year regardless. Cheers, Ron... Oh, and for the money, install a metal drip tray and run drain line along with a water alarm. You can get the tray and water alarm at home hardware. Change the battery in the water alarm the same time you replace the batteries in your smoke detector.
  22. While I do agree, don't go if you don't know. We constantly check the thickness of the ice when we venture out. But people speculating on the thickness of the ice from shore can get really frustrating. The kids were skating on 5 inches of ice, plenty safe above the guidelines recommended. As for the locals putting the thoughts of unsafe ice, did they actually go out and test the thickness? These are the opinions from lack of knowledge, it makes everyone else that has taken the proper precautions look like we deserve the Darwin award. Even the Fire Department measured with inadequate tools. Take the butt of an axe handle and "eye it" to the bottom of the ice, ya there is safety for ya. That is just like a police officer pulling you over for speeding and the officer gives you a ticket for doing 20 km/hr over the speed limit because it "looked" like you were going that fast! I guess in the total scheme of things though, it makes for good news.
  23. A couple of very respectable Muskie there Lew. Cheers, Ron...
