  1. My brother has eaten dozens of pounds of free calamari from the same grocery store due to price discrepancy. I wondered why he had like 4 pounds of meat circles in his freezer. Good tip Cliff. My wife is price-matcher supreme. helps a lot.
  2. congrats! Timmins is a great area if you like the outdoors. I'll bite my tongue on the other living conditions and social issues there. 6th picture down, that looks like a char, is it just a huge-greenish speckled trout??
  3. Sounds like nice accommodations! Glad Nipissing treated you well.
  4. Me Joey Tier hahaha
  5. This season has been really good. The average size has gone way up, many days I'm averaging 16-17" fish, with the smallest being 14". Good stats considering some days we get 30+ fish each. Like Joey said, the keepers have been consistent and the big girls take a line once in a while. Here is one of our members with a hog (Casi - forget his screen name). a few other pics from this year.
  6. crapload of ice on Nip still.
  7. yellow birch flows like crazy, just after the end of maple syrup season. The boil ratio is closer to 60:1, but the volume of sap coming out of that tree is surprisingly high.
  8. Don't tap silver maples haha. That's a funny, and probably easy mistake to make when you first start. Red (soft) or Sugar (hard) both produce good. The hard is hands-down better, but the reds still produce. You'll see the tips (buds) of the 'Reds' turn a fairly bright red this time or year. I noticed that my smaller trees produced earlier than most big ones. Your tree-wells look good for tapping (the ring of melt around the truck base). We still have 3-4 feet of snow, I have another month before I setup my equipment. Have fun and good luck! I love doing syrup.
  9. dang, that pike was much bigger than I thought. your season shames mine. Let's go specklin' today.
  10. don't get a Hyundai. One of my best friends is a mechanic at Hyundai and drives a Honda.
  11. Ca, c'est un brochet!
  12. yeah, stay away from Callander Bay unless for some reason you can't get to the main lake. Better chance at big fish and lots of walleye on the south end. More perch and day-long action on the north side.
  13. Reeds outdoor is a good operator on Nipissing, he's on the north side and you WILL catch lots of fish. Whoever you book with, I'd definitely recommend the north side (not south bay) of the lake for numbers and good action to keep the family busy.
  14. Rochefort/hyndman has an interesting history.
  15. I should just build a cheap tar paper shack, have no loan against it and remove insurance. Then I can burn what I want (obviously safely which is not hard to do) and have no fear of losing my expensive home in the event of a fire. Of cours I'm kidding. Thx for all the replies everyone
  16. Agreed, I'm part of several groups like that. Definitely another avenue I will follow. Thx
  17. Not always true. I'm on my second insurer in two years and never have I had to provide a WETT certificate. All the clearances, materials and legalities are easily searched (if not all in your owners manual) and done by yourself or a professional installer, WETT is a racket, a pseudo-regulatory agency. Farm mutuals, or cooperators, I'll look at them. Perfect. I run a commercial wood lot operated as a farm so I should be able to qualify for farm insurance. Also, my broker clearly doesn't have the reach of insurers I need
  18. Funny when I do an internet search and the best result is an old OFC topic... one which I've already replied to, hahaha. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71582 My broker says they have NO insurers who cover more than 3 single cords burned per year. So I'm looking for a new broker and/or insurer. Who here gets decent woodstove coverage, and what company do you use? I will funnel my money to realistic companies, not companies that promote the demise of wood heat in (rural) Canada.
  19. Nice walleye for Restoule! I was wondering how made out as well Dutch
  20. Great bikes, I have one, but it's a 350 and a 92. You have aftermarket, but the prices aren't much better I found and I'd prefer the genuine Honda qualify for a bike that age. This bike had been through hell and back, and still runs like a champ. I can't get over how well built they are. Plus their resale is amazing.
  21. Sky donkeys! Hahaha
  22. Goose burger is a great idea. My neighbor has a field full of geese... Too easy for us to get the license and just hang out in the garage until we see them.
  23. Is that salsa or canned tomatoes? We've been freezing basil, raspeberries and beans so far. Potatoes are kicking butt too. I picked my first 'ripe' tomato this morning, but most of them are still very green
  24. We catch them in the Ottawa river and use them as pike bait under a float. None better
  25. My brother had a serious leg infection from improperly removing a leech...twice!! Antibiotics for a few weeks, wasn't pretty
