  1. Well put. In the arctic, the Inuits use rope to catch char and trout. I've been hooked on 20lbs braid with 8-14 lbs fluoro leaders. Low maintenance and very sensitive, especially if your fishing deep with any amount of wind, you'll appreciate it. MTB .. Haha are u serious. You may want to step down to 9lbs first, 8lbs might be too dramatic of a change
  2. Nice crafting and successful casting! Enjoy your brain food
  3. Make that noodling for musky and we are talking real entertainment!
  4. It also works for any leftover shinners if you happen to buy a dozen. It's a good way to save on minnow$.
  5. I had a good time watching this thread develop so I'll revive it. We are missing are a few hahahabs fans and maybe a Vancouver rioter to really spark this thread to life. Looks like Scrivens will get an opportunity to prove himself tonight... Goofstavsen is pretty scary in net, but I guess that's why they call him the Monster
  6. Yup, its legal. Try salting a few of them for extra flavor and to keep them better preserved. Lay the unfrozen minnows on wax/ aluminum paper, pat- dry them and apply pickling salt. Freeze them for your next adventure.
  7. Looks like an awesome day on the river!
  8. Great fish combo! Your photos turned out great as well.
  9. Yup, last cast is always a hard one to call. It's usually pre-empted by several of these groans " ..welllllllllllllll..."
  10. Great stuff Mike! Mepps long cast is my favorite lure for large trout.
  11. Great start to the season Jacques! SOund like it was a heavy workout just to get your deer out of the bush. Hope I'll see some 12 point photos next week. Bonne chance avec le gros chevreuil!
  12. Brookies below the fog. Great report Mike. It's a wildlife haven up there.
  13. This guy at Liberty? He/she was on shore when it saw me, then jumped in and swam right out to my canoe. It would have come closer had I not moved to take my lure out of his strike zone. I don't think it's a fisher... N.A.W.: That's a crazy story.... I bet your heart rate went up rapidly! haha.
  14. fantastic! A few steelies like that can prop up anyones day.
  15. woo hoo! now there is a good milestone.
  16. That rod handle must taste like roe! haha. Great fishing you guys had... Those are some real beauts
  17. Nipissing 2012 Hardwater G2G....'nough said. Hopefully TJ will be there again this year. I highly recomment the 2hr drive for this event. More details will be posted as it approaches. We should definitly try McNab this winter, we'll have a fire on shore and cook up some smokies.... you and me both have a vendetta on that lake, don't we? On lakes that are less travelled, like some have mentioned I'll pop a hole every 10-15 feet to ensure it's safe. There is a 100% chance I'll be up your way this winter, so we'll make some plans once the ice is thick. DanC said it best, keep it simple and warm and your good to go. In my opinion, having to organize, maintain and haul a large amount of gear actually makes you less likely to hit the ice.
  18. The 6 inch swede bore is ridiculously easy to use when the blades are sharp. A cheap walmart rod works fine with a summer real, just make sure it'll fit in the reel seat. For a seat I use my minnow bucket and a "hot seat" pad. Works fine and is cheap. Can't help u with the hut as I'm a commando type ice fisher. (The hut not my underwear) Good snowpants, jacket and plenty of those disposable hand warmers are your best friend when ice fishing
  19. My tire was patched at a local shop for $27.
  20. Great stuff Bunk! That qualifies you as a walleye master. Impressive trout year for Mike. Thanks for sharing.
  21. Mudpuppy! I catch a few every year on Nipissing or Nosbonsing. I remember stepping on one as a kid and I FLIPPED out! haha. Mudpuppy's are good at bringing out the "little girl" in everybody.
