  1. Seems like you get a bonus musky nearly everytime you go for walleye. Ever land a monster walleye while fishing for musky?
  2. That is a meal fit for a king! Deerloaf for dinner tonight?
  3. Hey C4C, thanks for the thought. Like Craig was saying, Mattawa is both a long distance from the stocking grounds and would be a true gauntlet for any traveling brown. The rumors of browns in Mattawa are stemming from the fast flowing waters beneath the Dam, not the Mattawa River, whoch also holds Lake Trout and some spring-time specks. There is a fair sized, cold-water trib near the dam that would make good spawning grounds if indeed they are spawning. This was the spot I was considering as the best option for attempting to catch one. The odds are stacked against me and the trout here, but a man can dream.
  4. good stuff Vinnie. Thanks for doing this. If I take a photo of Randy on the ice with a stuffed antelope on his head and your girls pick it as the best, do I win or does Randy's antelope head win?
  5. Like your suggesting, I can't imagine there being any real numbers of Browns in the River, especially as far upstream as Mattawa. However, IF they are reproducing stock maybe there is a small population of fish entering the tribs in the fall or spring. I just find it interesting that there is a possibility of this. Lots of hungry predators in the Ottawa, I can't imagine it would be an easy life for a brown.
  6. Bring the tv into the workshop, turn on hockey and get to work!
  7. That area/type of fish is mostly unknown to me, sorry. Are they actually spawning or just going through the motions in Lake O? If indeed they spawn, do they require a specific stocking method, i.e. imprinting at birth and other complicated breeding/stocking methods? I was under the impression that many if not all stocked trout ( in inland lakes) are infertile, such as the stocked speck, laker, rainbow trout lakes. I'd expect that to be the same for a smaller stocking program such as the O. River, but I'd like to be told otherwise. Edit: Either way you've given me the answer to Q#2. Thanks.
  8. Great items to have I'll get a plastic sled this year, but the survival suit will have to wait. So far I've picked up 2 tipups (courtesy of Leechman!), 2 jigging spoons, several pairs of small gloves and some thermal shirts. No big tickets items since I have most of what I need. What I'm missing the most? ICE!!!!! That inspection camera looks like the ultimate fish finder in clear/shallow water!!
  9. Brown Trout have been stocked in the Ottawa River near Ottawa for the past 30 years or so; lately I've been hearing anecdotes about Browns being caught in the Mattawa area. According to my limited research, the stocking program is small and very few anglers target/catch them anywhere in the water system. My questions to the panel are: 1) Is there a possibility that the browns are reproducing? 2) Fertile or not, would the browns follow their natural spawning/feeding habits? I.E. entering the rivers in the spring/fall. 3) Has anybody caught or heard of someone catching a brown in the system? The Mattawa area in particular. Here's a video of large browns being stocked.
  10. Blast and cast... As my brother calls it; funting. Nice fish!
  11. Great show Mike! A bonus musky is never a bad thing.
  12. I ask myself the same question sometimes. As Sinclair said, I was a jets fan and didn't want to be a team jumper, like most Sens fans (aka, ex-leafs/habs fans) so I stuck with them. I like the new jets but I'll stick with phx until their future is decided.
  13. oh great...now you've offended me. I'm a Phx fan.
  14. Nice excuse to go fishing. What's your next excuse? -It was Tuesday so I decided to celebrate by fishing. -I was hungry so I went fishing. -The sky was overcast so I... -It was somebody's birthday somewhere, so I...
  15. I'd be happy if Nipissing were safe by Jan 1st. At this point, it doesn't look likely.
  16. I caught that but didn't make anything of it. Too funny...
  17. That's great Blair! It was either last spring or fall when you first told me about the healthy population of Northern Lamprey in Chippewa Creek. Very interesting stuff.

  20. Hater The proof of the pudding is in the eating. He puts up great stats and has won several championships... he's also taken his fair share of lumps. The league might coddle him when it comes to marketing and league rules but in their defence, why not? He's a great example of a fantastic hockey player.
  21. I'm suprised they are doing the work so late in the season; then again the cold weather will minimize the erosion of soil during the excavation. $1.1 mil seems like a fair value considering all the politics, logistics, contractor costs and city-land involved. I'm sure the NBMCA pulled a few strings with the City to reduce contractor and permitting costs. Thx for posting.
  22. Another great Canadian artist. Dan Mangan
  23. That would make a great home for the Coyotes since Phoenix doesn't seem to want them.
  24. oops. thanks for correction!
