  1. It's that time of year again, at 4:30 tomorrow morning I'm on the road heading for the French river. I'll be gone for a week of fresh air and relaxation. Hope to bring back some good fish stories and a few pictures to go along with them. See you all soon. P.S.- ccmtcanada I got your new entry and will post it when I get home I gotta finish packing and get to sleep.
  2. I have been making my own flouro leaders for about a year now using 50 lb. and crimps, the trouble is I can't use these on my Smithwick Rogues it affects the action to much. I was told to try 20 lb. flouro and tie it. Would you guys use a uni to uni knot to tie the flouro to the braid and what knot do you recommend for the lure? Also how tough is 20 lb. flouro leader to tie? Thanks taper.
  3. 4 friends from work and myself had booked a charter before Christmas last year and the time finally rolled around and the wait was well worth it. The weather was fantastic, hardly a ripple on the water. The fish were co-operating and it was a great time being with just the guys. The fish were stacked up in small pockets, we could troll for 20-30 minutes and not a bite then bang multiple rods would let loose. We ran riggers, Dypsies, lead core and jet divers behind the planer boards. Here is a shot of one time we had 4 fish on at the same time and boated 3 of the 4, I can live with that kind of odds. We had one trouble during the day and that was with a very large floating weed bed that snuck up on us while we were landing fish. This is one of my favorite photos from the day, my friend managed to catch this guy in the air. In the end a great day was had by all and we are already trying to decide on a date for next year, which should be even better. Trophy Taker the charter we went out with is putting a second boat on and we want to go ten guys with each chipping in 5 or 10 bucks for a biggest fish of the day competition. Also we noticed back at the dock we were one fish over our limit ( someone forgot to hit the clicker) so we donated it to our captain for dinner. Next year we will have to keep a closer eye.
  4. Have a great day Roy. Meeting up with you in Picton at the GTG I instantly could tell why you are talked so highly about. It is an honor to know some one like you. Happy birthday.
  5. If your talking about a bow mount I would recomend a quick release bracket and remove it when trailering or covered. It saves a lot of bouncing on the motor and nothing there for some one to steal.
  6. I haven't been around much lately work has been just crazy, one week I actually managed 83 hours so I haven't had the boat in the water for a few weeks. I did manage however to get out on a charter, I took my parents my wifes parents and my wife and son out of Erieau with Trophy Taker Charters. Once again I was completely impressed with the quality service we received from Jeremy. We were a bit late and my mom had a little trouble with the waves so I decided not to tourture her any more and call it a day early so we only fished about 4 hours total. In that 4 hours we did manage 17 walleye and 5 rainbows and a whole lot of fun. It was a great day on the water and i can't wait till next weekend to get back out with the guys from work on another charter with Jeremy.I only got this one picture back at the dock the waves were a little to big to have the camera out on the water.
  7. If you are talking about VHF radios I would stick with quality names. I have a Uniden Solara and it seems pretty good.
  8. They are wearing unevenly because they are out of alignment which is fairly common on a trailer and i would stay with trailer tires not car tires. They are made to withstand the constant bouncing and shock loads that the trailer exerts on the tires automotive tires usually don't last long on trailers.
  9. Congrats Brandon just be careful BC can be very expensive.
  10. I was up in that area on the May 24th weekend but the lake we fished did not have a trout population. I can say, one of the logging roads we went in on was much improved over last year. After seeing the size of some of those lakes I don't blame you for not naming it. Once you are there you wouldn't need any GPS marks.
  11. You don't have to keep 2 anchors on board but it is a great idea in certain circumstances and if you lose one your day is not over or even worse your week. The second anchor is really nice to stay over a pinpoint spot. Also if you are buying a new anchor rope buy good quality that doesn't tear your hands apart, and I know its a little more money but I like the pre made anchor ropes that have the eye loop formed right into them with a metal insert.
  12. Do you have separate coils or are they in the CDI. If they are seperate it could be the coil or the lead itself.
  13. I am looking at purchasing a good used truck for myself and one of the options that has come up is aford but with the small 4.6L . Do any of you have this engine and how do you like it for towing. My boat motor trailer package is coming in around 2500 lbs. I know the motor can pull it but does it work hard doing so? Thanks for the info.
  14. I have to work but your a braver man than me for going to the point for opener. Good luck Jamie Mike
  15. If you like rear drag and quick cast the Shimano Solstice is a decent reel for about $70.
  16. Are your main motor and kicker both on the same fuel line. If so it is possible to cause a vapor lock in one motor while running the other, when you switch the motor will be starved for fuel. Normally it would run for a while and then shut down completely not run at half throttle. Just throwing out ideas.
  17. I don't know any thing about those in particular but I wouldn't put an Exide in on a bet.
  18. I know you have been a motor guide fan Lew but I think you will be very pleased with the Minnkota.
  19. Great report TJ. I am not sure from the pics but could those flowers be lady slippers.
  20. One thing to add is if you are going to feed them it is a commitment. If you start they become Dependant and if you stop some birds can have trouble returning to scrounging for their feed.
  21. Have a great summer Wayne your input will be missed.Congrats on the daughter graduating, you should be very proud.
  22. Great report TJ. That is the lodge that I thought about taking my father to, and you just reaffirmed my choice.
  23. Where is it located, I go to the French river every year and have never seen it.
  24. As always a pleasure to read your posts. I did my first ever camping trip this year near Timmins and loved it, Some day I may make it up to your neck of the woods the scenery looks amazing.
  25. Thanks Cliff I was waiting for my reply and had not heard any thing so I went on and checked last night and seen the message you are talking about and tried sending it again.
