  1. Having been involved in a number of road kills, i guess as stated they are property of the crown but the MNR will not come and get them in most cases. Generally speaking the person who hit's it usually has the rights to it and can give it to someone of their choosing. I have never seen an MNR at a road kill site cleaning up. I know the OPP in our area have a list of people to all to pick up road killed deer, and if it is messed up too bad or no one is available then it becomes a clean up job for the municipality to dispose of it(usually where i come in), i have kept a number of good road kills we have had to clean up, the rest get sent to the dump. I you are keeping a road killed deer there is a form you need to get from the MNR that allows you to have this meat in your possession. It is especially important when your not a deer hunter and are not licensed, but it's still a good idea to fill it out if you keep a deer anyhow. Sad to say but i think the cop you dealt with had either some alternative motives or was misinformed. I hope this helps,
  2. There is one just across the road from Wildwood conservation area. I use it a couple times a year and i have never had a problem.
  3. I just re-did the bunks on my trailer with indoor outdoor carpet, when i was doing it at the cottage and the neighbor came over and asked if i was using marine grade carpet, i wasn't because it was just the bunks. The original ones were 20 years old, i might be lucky to get 4 years out of the stuff i used. I did a couple fold down seat cover things too with the carpet, but it wouldn't do the whole deck in the cheap stuff. The neighbor said his cheap carpet stained too and he couldn't get it out like he could with the original stuff. If i am going to go through all the effort in the future to redo any more of the deck it will be with marine grade.
  4. If they won't let you cut it down because it's living....kill it ! A sneaky trick is to flip up a section of bark in an unobtrusive place, bore a hole, pack it with copper sulphate then flip the bark back in place. problem solved. I had a number of these same type of trees around my house and was worried that they might fall on the house since many were leaning that way and a couple times branches had broke off and damaged the house, so i didn't want the whole tree(s) to fall on house. Some looked to have a poor base and might have been starting to rot. Much to my surprise they were solid trees and the stumps we tough too...all but two are gone now and they lean away from the house. They still managed to break off a large branch in a windstorm we had this summer and send the branch up over the tops of the tress and land it on my new gazebo. Those trees are back on my hit list. Good luck with your tree cutting, i can just imagine what the city rules are on this.
  5. Damm i thought i was the only one that the shampoo and conditioner bottles bothered ! Some are right side up some are upside down each one is different. I solved my problem by taking a black marker and putting a big s or c on the bottle before they are allowed in the shower. It saved a lot of cursing every day.
  6. So....other than a swan did you catch anything ?
  7. Hey John, There is 3 swans in that area of the Thames River. 2 of them belong to the Town of Mitchell and one belongs to St. Marys. The one St. Marys had is a male (it's mate was killed last year while on a nest) and met up with the two escaped ones from Mitchell on the river and so it turns out that one of the swans is a she/male (i forget the word) and has paired up with the St. Marys swan. I'm not sure where the female one from mitchell went or maybe it is still around. The St. Marys swan over winters in Stratford with the stratford swans in their pen, so it will have to be caught later this year since it has been clipped and can't fly. I dont know what mitchell plans on doing with theirs. Owning a swan is actually really complicated, there is all sorts of regulations and an actual ownership document for that particular bird. There is a couple out on Wildwood lake too and i have no idea who they belong to or if they can fly and come and go as they wish.
  8. It was pretty intense just before dark around here. We lost our swing and Gazebo. Almost headed for the basement once.
  9. Well i don't go back that far.... lol We had friends that lived on the point and spent about 12- 14 years spending our summer holidays there, they moved off the point and now have split up and we have been going to Martin River for the last 9 years to a cottage there but I miss Jocko Point. Love the pic's
  10. Ahhh my old stomping grounds, spent many a day around those islands....thanks for the memories.
  11. Your wife made you put those plants in your new worm garden didn't she? ....lol Does she know they will get messed up while you did for worms....? LOl Good Job on the bed, lots of hard back breaking labor.
  12. Yes Wildwood lake near St. Marys will allow you to use you boat with a 50 hp...i dont think there is any limit on HP unlike Fanshaw or Pittock. The dock is in the conservation area for the larger boats. Some people with canoes come in off of the bridges that are at the far end of the lake. The main portion of the lake is about 5 miles long and then there is a bridge and no gas powered bots are allowed beyond there but if you have an electric or a canoe it's a nice calm area to fish. This section is about 2 miles long before the lake runs out and it gets really shallow with stumps, just be careful if you go past the second bridge. This LM came out of there yesterday morning
  13. We have a cottage on Little Martin Lake, been going there for 9 years and "limited success" are key words. But with that said we are only there in late august and i may not be the best fisherman in the world either. I spend a lot of time on McFee and Bruce Lake's. One i have always wanted to try is Wicksteed, i have lots of good stories about decent catches coming out of there, my boat is just too big to get in there with. Someday i am going to get a small aluminum and try it. I picked up a map once and i'm not sure it wasn't from Beaverland Camp or Trappers trading post. It showed many of the popular spots for fishing and where the rocks are. It was remarkably accurate on its fishing locations. I have only been under the highway once so i cant help you much on that end of the lake.
  14. I think the stuff in your last pic is called curly leaf pond weed. It has long stems and the leaf grows on top of the water the root will be in the bottom of the creek bed. Length of stem would depend on depth of water and flow. BTW ....nice fish
  15. All i ever use is corn flakes and real butter in the pan. Making the corn flakes into powder is half the fun,...... pre crumbled ? .....pppfffttt
  16. I think the Provincial Park is only $10. That's where i launch from.
  17. Snowlinesports Try snowline sports in London
  18. Just throwing this out there Beaverland Camp- Martin River We have stayed there before and now use a cottage just up the road. I dont think they have a pontoon boat for rent but if you ask there might be one on the lake you can rent. It's about a 1/2 hour north of North Bay. If i can help with any details let me know.
  19. dootalk is a definitely a screwed up snowmobile site, lots of "bass" over there There fixed it for you ! jk
  20. I found this on a site, never tried it yet Cordless Power Tool Batteries and other batteries that contain Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) Cells can be Re-Conditioned to perform as well as new or even better than new. Proper maintenance after the procedure will insure years of usable life. The First and most common procedure for Re-Conditioning a NiCd cell is by using a Technique called "VOLTAGE SURGING". Over time the crystals within a NiCd cell begin to combine and get larger. This causes them to loose capacitance and also break through the inner seals of the cell. Surging the NiCd cell using a higher voltage causes the crystals within the NiCd cell to shatter and become smaller. These smaller crystals have a greater surface area and therefore contain a greater capacitance for energy. Crystals primarily grow larger during "OVER CHARGING". Over Charging is the enemy of a NiCd Cells so Remember to leave your batteries on the charger for only the minimum charging time OR LESS! This is usually an hour or less for Rapid Chargers or 2 to 4 hrs for standard chargers. It is also best to only charge your batteries immediately before you use them. Storing your batteries with a full charge encourages crystal growth. Storing your batteries on a low charge , but not dead, is best. To keep crystal growth under control, you must also perform the surge process below once every 3 months to keep you NiCd battery at its peak. Follow these maintenance techniques to insure years of dependable use. The "VOLTAGE SURGING" Technique below may be repeated until the battery holds a dependable charge but wait at least 15 minutes between "SURGING" to allow for the vapors within the cell to cool. Surging the battery without waiting will result in the cell EXPLODING! Most batteries will only require one or two "VOLTAGE SURGES" but extremely damaged cells may take up to 20 surges. For batteries up to 9.6 volts you will want to run two wires from a good 12 volt battery, such as a car battery or two 6 volt lantern batteries run in series. use like size cells and not a combination. Clamp the ground wire from the car battery to the negative side of the tool battery. Small alligator clamps work good for this application. The positive terminal on the tool battery is usually golden in color and the negative is usually silver in color. Use a voltage meter to be sure. One end of the positive wire should be rigidly attached to the car battery and the other end of the positive wire should be stripped at the end. Then simply tap the stripped end of the positive wire against the positive terminal on the tool battery for about 10 seconds tapping rapidly at a rate of 2 to 3 times per second. See charts below for exact recommended "SURGE TIME" for your battery pack size and your specific power source voltage. Check the voltage of the tool battery with a voltage tester and if it does not give a voltage equal to or slightly higher than the tool batteries rated voltage, then repeat these steps for a few more seconds until it does (waiting 15 minutes between surges). See Fig. A. For batteries of 9.7 volts to 19.9 volts you will need at least 24 volts. Four 6 volt lantern batteries run in series also works. It is also possible to use other tool batteries wired together in series as a power source, but if you are using two 18 volt tool batteries in series you will generate 36 volts and 10 seconds will be to long. Shorten re-conditioning process to 6 or 7 seconds. You can also use 2-18 volt tool batteries in series for re-conditioning 24 volt tool batteries. Using other DC power sources such as welders and battery chargers can also be used for the "VOLTAGE SURGING" but small transformers won't work because they don't deliver enough amps. Use lamp cord thickness wire or larger and always use safety goggles! NOTE: Wiring batteries together in series sounds dangerous because directly connecting a positive to a negative usually is. In the case of DC batteries, this is not true. Connecting the positive of one battery to the negative actually increases voltage (see fig.. There is no risk of explosion when properly connected. This principle can be seen in flashlights where the batteries are also ran in series where the positive of one battery is butted to the negative of the next battery. Use the tables below to determine proper "SURGE TIME" for your particular battery size and power source. For example; If you have an 18v battery pack and a 36v power source (3 car batteries in series) then you would surge the battery for 6 seconds (see table E). If you only have 2 car batteries in series then the recommended surge tapping time would increase and be 10 seconds (see table F). Note; If your battery has more than two terminals you only need to surge ANY two that register voltage. Manufactures put an extra set of terminals on to improve connection but they go to the same cells. Be sure to determine polarity (+& - ) because the surge process will not work if performed backwards! Table E TABLE F TABLE G STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS 1.) Using a voltage tester, determine the polarity of your battery (junk. & neg.) 2.) Use Tables E, F & G to determine the "Surge Time" for your particular battery size and power source. 3.) 'TapZap' your battery for the suggested time and allow to cool for 15 minutes. Then place on charger for 15 minutes. It may work again. 4.) After a short charging let the battery sit. After sitting 1hour check the voltage to see if it is slowly draining. A slow drain will indicate a short. 5.) If battery fails to charge, or hold a charge then repeat steps 3 & 4. This process can be repeated up to 25 times. The previous Re-Conditioning method will work 90% of the time but occasionally a battery will still not retain its rated voltage. For those of you who are mechanically inclined, there is another option. Remove the battery cell cluster as shown in Fig. C. Test each individual cell for voltage with a voltage tester. If an individual cell fails to register at least one volt, that particular cell will need to be Re-Conditioned. There may be a fibrous insulator on top and/or bottom of the cells that will need to be drilled to reach the individual cells, but do not drill into the battery cells themselves! NOTE: Each cell will have to be tested for Polarity (+ or -), the cells are rotated so the positive end of the cell on some will be facing up and others will be facing down. Once you locate the bad cell(s) use a 12 volt car battery to Re-Condition the individual cell by holding the Negative wire to the Negative side of the cell and then hold the Positive wire to the Positive side of the cell for 2 to 3 seconds, but no longer. Repeat this process for each cell that doesn't register at least on volt. This process will work on 18v and 24v batteries as well as lower voltages because the individual cells are the same. VersaPak Batteries VersaPak batteries have three 1.2 volt cells inside of them so they should register 3.6 volts. If they are bad they will typically register 0, 1.2 or 2.4 volts. The VersaPak batteries are very simple to Re-Condition. Simply hold the negative wire from the battery to the outside housing of the battery which is its ground. Then Rapidly Tap the Positive wire to the inside of the battery for 3 seconds but no more. Repeat after 15 minutes in necessary. Its that Easy! Another Method for Re-conditioning NiCd cells that is still in development is the Freeze Technique. We are finding that some batteries that do not respond to the surging technique respond to the Freeze Technique. This is a simple procedure. All you have to do is freeze your battery pack in the freezer for 1 hour and then rapidly tap the bottom of the battery pack with something like the but end of a screwdriver for about a minute. The freezing of the internal crystals makes them more fragile and the vibration physically breaks them apart. This is hard on the cells and should only be performed after the surge process has failed. After you have tapped on the battery pack immediately place the battery back in your tool and turn it on. It won't work much because the pack is still frozen but putting a load on the battery in this condition will encourage the internal crystal structure to break apart, which is good! Single cell batteries like A,AA,B,C and D batteries have been shown to respond well to this technique using a hammer and giving the butt end of the battery a good solid hit, but not too hard as to break the battery housing. If you attempt to surge your batteries 20 times and then freeze your battery 5 times and you are still not getting your battery to charge then you are either performing the process improperly or your batteries are just too far gone. One of the most common reasons for failure is improper polarity surging. If you surge the battery backwards this process will not work. ALWAY WEAR EYE AND BODY PROTECTION. NiCd cells can explode if over surged. This page is for informational purposes only. Use these practices at your own risk. 21. Like someone else said the new refrigerants don't contain the ozone depleting chemicals like R12 did. They are mostly made up of propane and butane and other hydro carbons. May you need to look at this site cause Dura cool might just be better for the environment than the stuff that has already leaked out. It's not about being cheap its that garages are ripping people off when it comes to air conditioning because of out dated thinking. $800 to replace a condenser ? on a 8 year old van, who can afford that ? I bet the condenser was only worth less than $200 and took minutes to install. Trying one can of Duracool isn't going to end the world I ran my old work truck on propane in the air conditioning system for 4 years, never had a problem other than it was too cold and would freeze up on really hot humid days. Duracool You live in TO and your worried about me polluting the environment ? lol Now that there is funny ......
  22. I am with Billy Bob on this, air cond repair is a rip off. I had a buddy show me the ins and outs of an air cond system and bought a refill kit and now i do my own refills for $12 a can. It's worth a try to recharge your system to see if its just a lack of coolant, i do it for all my friends too, I have had one condenser show a leak and one compressor that was seized, other than that i have had a couple dozen that just needed a refill because of a slow leak and lack of use in cold weather. It usually worth the $12 to try it before spending the big money. Too bad you don't live closer i would top your system up for you.
  23. Well i answered my question, I added these today after a trip to Angling Outfitters in Woodstock today. NEW Berkley® Gulp!® Alive!™ 6" Fltg. Nightcrawler I also picked up a small jar of Berkley Tip Baits Berkley® Power® Glowing Tip Bait I had never seen them before, they looked like they might have some interesting possibilities, anyone else use them? I guess i will find out tomorrow if they work
