I'm kinda in the same boat here.....yes a pun was intended I bought my boat and trailer five years ago, finally registered the boat last december. The trailer is a commercially made trailer and has been with the boat since it was new in 89, it has a VIN plate with all it's details. The previous owner had passed away and his wife could not find any documents for either the trailer or boat. I had the licensing office do a VIN search for the trailer to see who was the last owner registered and even though it has been around since 89 it has never been registered. Now I have to go through a process called and affidavit for vehicle registration and have it signed by a notary in order to prove I am the owner of the trailer. So far I haven't done it but will be soon....or I will just rip the tag off and call it homemade...lol So there is two ways to go about this.

A question for people who fish with trolling motor.
IndySKS replied to Steelcat's topic in General Discussion
I for one hate people fishing near me, it just drives me nuts. I'm sure there are places and times that boats will need to be close but for the most part...it's usually a big lake go find your own spot. Whats even worse is those who seem to follow you around no matter where you go there is soon a crowd with you. As for someone else anchored or even if your working a shore line and i pass by i stop fishing and go as wide as possible away from the other boat before cutting back in and continuing fishing...defiantly not inside a couple boat lengths away. Sounds like your friends need a special talk and or a lesson in etiquette -
x2 hole shot sucks and the speed to stay on plane is way too fast, i have a pole on mine some one installed in the rear casting deck for towing, i towed a couple times and no one liked it..then again maybe they were just chickens.

HA HA He said they were Yamaha's ..... good luck with that

Not to hijack the topic but since it's in the area...is there any good fishing on Sky Lake. Fished it a few times 25 years ago but haven't been in the area since, always thought of going back to see it now.

Even though it's already been said...don't ship UPS ! USPS had gotten all sorts of tackle and packages to me with no fee's. Sometimes even faster than a letter half way across Ontario by CP. Some tackle places or retailers will only ship by courier so check things out first before ordering, if they won't ship by USPS I walk away....it's not worth getting screwed by UPS.

Good luck on finding a knot that works on your crystal line, if you do find something let me know the secret. I will admit im not a line or knot expert but I bought a roll of crystal a couple years ago and had the same problem, i eventually gave up on it and went to spider wire stealth. Never once in 1 1/2 years have i ever broke the stealth or had a knot break.

Need some help to choose the right trolling motor!!
IndySKS replied to Jackie's topic in General Discussion
for what it's worth my 2 cents.... I have an older 17.5 foot fiberglass bass boat and probably a heavier boat than a new bass boat. When I bought it it had a 12 v 35 lb...that was useless. I went with a motor guide 71 lb 24v, it works fine and will last all day on good batteries, top speed is 4 kmh. Some days it would be better to have just a bit more umph. So I would suggest nothing smaller than something in the 70 lb range for yours. If you r not in a hurry look around for a good used one and save a few bucks. -
OK your right I have never used the 3m system, it could be the miracle restorer you say it is, I will give you that. I was more referring to the other cleaners that were suggested in other posts. Call me cheap but a few dollars worth of sand paper and some water and elbow grease will remove the oxidization as well. My boat was fairly well oxidized to the point it was rough to the touch, I figured the gell coat was gone and I was down to the metal flake but I tried the method mentioned on the other web site and it worked excellent at a very low cost. I got less than $50 in materials in mine and that includes the wax. How much does the 3m kit cost ? Just asking. And I'm certainly no expert but if you burn through the gell coat with 1500 or 2000 grit wet sand paper and doing it by hand ...you need to rethink things.

Yea before you do anything check out the site mentioned above and look up this topic: Basscat7's Post (Fixing Gelcoat). If your boat is just oxidized forget all the other suggestions you have heard about cleaners and other methods. read the post and follow it to the letter. It took me 2 years to get up the nerve to sand my topcap but i did it this spring and it looks just like new and it's over 20 years old. send me a pm if you want to talk details

Hey guys in need some of your thoughts here, I have been working hard on my new boat getting it ready for the opening of bass season but I have run into a stumbling block. As you can see in the pic i have had enough of the weather getting the best of me while on the water, problem is casting while bass fishing. My neighbor has an old diving board and the van door still works so i was thinking of mounting it on the side of the boat and use it as a casting deck...do you think it will work or be too tipsy. Going to be a sweet rig for trolling though.

I picked a set of led boat lights up at Gander Mountain in Port Huron MI a few weeks back, they were $60. As luck had it i hit it on the day they were 85% off. You might want to look there. I got two red and two yellow side marker lights in led. Didn't end up using the red but installed the rest last week. I'm more than pleased with them so far.

Yes you can fish in the west quarry, there i am opening at the end near the tennis courts, John's other suggestion is also a good place to start. Wildwood lake might also be an option for you, either along the dam or off of the first bridge.

nope your not alone, it happens to me sometimes too. Although im leaving in a few minutes for north bay area too, i slept like a baby last night. I find it happens when i over think things, plan everything to death and let my mind wander thinking about what ever it is i am going to do. This time i have been too busy to think about it an really have nothing ready. It will all come together in the next hour and we will be on the road. have a great long weekend everyone.

ok one more...not really a dock story but still funny. It was my last trip out to the lake last fall, there is a small sailing club on the one side. The place is pretty well abandoned since the water levels were being lowered and it was cool and windy out. Well trolling along the sailing club side with my electric, i notice a trailer backing in to pull out one of the last few sail boats, few minutes later and older guy paddling comes out of the cove on his 15 or 16 foot small sail boat, no sail no motor just a paddle. Well the wind catches him and out to sea he goes, the poor guy paddled for all he was worth but tired out and lost all ground he had gained, he was just about to panic as i noticed what was going on, I waved to him that i was coming to help. So over i go on the electric and meet up. The guy is just about exhausted, well i got his bow rope and tied it off to my boat at the back, we started filtered try again please chatting as i sat in my chair at the bow, i had the electric on fairly low but we were moving. After about 3 minutes he asks me if im going to tow him in or just sit here. I took me a good couple minutes to explain how we were moving,he just couldn't understand it cause my gas motor was out of the water, i even went as far as turning the boat and showing him the electric motor.....he had never seen anything like that. The story ended happily with me landing him right on his trailer.

Nothing like sitting on the boat just off shore on a long weekend watching the show ! One of my last outings last fall there was only one ramp to use for both in and out, usually there is two. So the guy in front of me is pulling out,we both arrived at the same time but being courteous i let him go first. It was him and his wife and they had a small boat...no big deal right. Well this guy couldn't back up for the life of him, he tried and tried and tried, though this the wife is standing on the dock holding the boat, she was trying to give directions and was doing a good job of it, however no matter what she said he had to stop open the door and ask her to repeat herself, this went on for a good 5-8 minutes, the guy waiting behind me came over and needless to say we were a bit unhappy. Finally he gives up and unhooks the trailer and backs it in by had to in front of the boat, he set the tongue down on the ramp and turned to go get the truck....wait for it ...here it comes....yup you guessed it the trailer rolls into the lake...something to do with gravity i think. Well me and the other guy are busting out selves laughing....did i mention 2 more boats are waiting to come out and one other also trying to get in ? Well he waded in and got the trailer and pulled it out and hooked up, now to back up a bit more...you guessed it the trailer hit the dock..ok pull ahead...back up...bad move, the show starts all over. Finally he gets it in and after another 5 min or so he gets it alllllmost on the trailer and decides to pull out with the boat still back about a foot. He pulled out of the dock and i proceeded to back in, now for the next show. There is two boats waiting to come out and one is tying up to the dock just too close for me to launch, I backed up to the edge of the water while mr pleasure boater is unloading 4 kids and a wife, i asked nicely for him to back up a few feet so i could get in. I was informed he was next....well a small discussion happened and i showed him the sign stating to alternate. Not interested... him and the kids were going to get the car and trailer. A couple other relatively heated people turned their attention to him, i went to the wife and low and behold she had some sense of reasoning and backed up. I backed in and launched, (did mention i do this alone), parked the truck and jumped on the boat, dropped the trolling motor and was gone. Well still no sign of mr pleasure boater so in backs the next guy, off loads and is parked before our friend comes back with his car and trailer. I know we could have helped the guy....but it was just too dam funny. Ever trip out it's a new show.

NF When do you say enuff and get rid of it
IndySKS replied to vinnimon's topic in General Discussion
Wouldn't have been easier to take it for a drive, park next to a good fishing hole..place a brick on the gas peddle....let it scream wide open, while you went and caught a couple fish...when you come back... problem solved. Sure would solve all the engine problems and make it not worth repairing. -
If you brought 4 of them on board ...that might seem excessive...lol I would see no problem with anything of that size for one bag. I personally don't like too big of bags for the fact they get too heavy to carry, would rather have 3 or 4 smaller ones and it's easier to stow a few small bags rather than one big bulky one.

I might be a bit out of the loop but rather than fighting over tourists that come to Elk Lake why not have some "Elk Lake tourist program" and have all the outfitters in the area work cooperatively and use the "government sponsored center" to promote the entire area. The Elk Lake area is one off the best hidden jems i have seen across this province, personally I would like to keep it hidden but hey you all need to make a living too The Eco Center is not going away and I hope neither are any of the outfitters so why not promote the area and have an income for everyone. Use the skills and resources the Eco Center can provide....if given a chance. If we work cooperatively we can accomplish great feats...
