  1. a broad screen antibiotic from your doctor and a decent first aid kit. A fish I was trying to unhook once drove a treble in down to the shank while we were a very long way from a hospital, By the time I managed to get somewhere and get seen it was pretty close to losing the finger.
  2. not a day for either shore - withthat wind
  3. saw these guys at a fishing show a couple years ago. Picked up one of their complete set ups for the canoe and when I go to lodges etc. Works awesome. allows you to mount the screen anywhere in the boat. https://www.fishfindermounts.com/ not the cheapest solution out there, but if you do this often, it s worth it. Just make sure you explain to the folks at security at the airport that its a fishfinder before you put it through xray
  4. awesome. and now bring on the soft stuff
  5. thanks Doug - that sounds really interesting - the sweet / salt combo sounds like it ought make for a really full flavour. The shoulder comes with the skin and a thick layer of fat (makes awesome crackling) , unlike the loins, (last night's supper - 1/4 of one of the shoulders, rubbed with seas salt, paprika and garlic. - well received by family ) gonna have consider how I deal with that - thinking crosshatch down to the meat before I marinade, or maybe just trim it off
  6. Any one got some kickasp recipes for smoked pork sholder? No frills has them on a $1.00 /lb. I got an 8lber looking for a recipe for smoker or oven

  13. hey Andrew - thanks, Niagara huh, If you're looking for a co pilot let me know, I have yet to figure that one out, despite several kicks at it. You know where to reach me. Got a freezer full of partridge now?
  14. yeah yeah, I know and you know.... wish my hands could take it, but it just aint worth it. Just buckling up the boat when it was minus 2 and my fingers were on fire within 15 minutes. AInt that the truth Mike - good to see you back round here, - looks like you had a pretty good season yourself from what I saw. Sweet boat you got there. Hope the chartering is going strong. Hey Bruce - back atcha, not many of us left ... saw him both solo and with Zappa, and studied to many a midterm with JLP in the background. thanks for the comments, all
  15. A short walk through this last year on the water. Was a unique year in many ways - unbelievable high water levels, a really un-summery summer with weather that did its best, and often succeeded, at confounding my attempts to plan some trips; we decided to fish new waters this year on Lake O and had a big learning curve figuring it out; watching G take the first steps out of childhood; becoming an expert at hook removal (something I would gladly have done without); yest another incredible t-storm (blew the dock I was tied to right of its moorings) - the first year with no family vacation. Life has a way of mixing it up I guess. The vid roughly follows the season from start to finish. The pics have less to do with specific events, and more to do with when I actually remembered to take a photo - so often I am just experiencing the moment. G was obsessed with catching a 30 lber for the last half of the season, and getting a smile, even for a 20 something fish was a challenge. . Credit to Jean Luc Ponty for the sound track.
  16. nice work - and that work bench - looks just like mine...... everything you need in reach. I'm be interested in seeing the finished product, that colour looks like it will really be sweet once the final coat is applied

  18. missin the status updates
  19. I drove rigs for more than 15 years and have worked in the industry for over 30. Cost me 4k in 1984 to get my license. There are a ton of factors involved, which I wont go into, that have contributed to where we are today. That being said, tanker drivers are some of the best operators out there. Don't rush to judge, and if you have never been behind the wheel of a tractor trailer, especially on a 400 series highway, you only know a small portion of the story. my condolences to those who lost a family member
  20. had 1 last kick at the can. bye bye lake O till April 2018

You really need to look at the positive side Rick. There is fall river trout to chase and ice fishing season will be here soon.

  22. Disclaimer - I haven't tried this myself (combination of patience (lack thereof) and opportunity (not enough time) when i am away) - but this is where I first looked at it. I had intended to on my last outing,,,, but ... perhaps one of these days, ,,,, https://1source.basspro.com/index.php/component/k2/76-walleye-fishing/3641-creating-custom-lake-maps-with-lowrance-insight-genesis-video the lowrance site has information on it as well. and Im sure youtube, the virtual encyclopedia of everything, will have its fair share of info
