Was going through sorting out some pics and stuff...and came across a folder i thought i'd lost when the old pooter crashed a couple months ago. In it was all the pics from one of the best days i've had fishing for smallmouth. Better still was my wife was with me, and after the first small pike hammered her topwater lure right next to the boat she decided she actually did like fishing afterall! We caught soooo many bass that day, it was a gorgeous hot summer day too, it was early summer 2008...happy memories, i think i might have done a post back then...but i strung all the pics and vid clips together as they were sequenced on the camera...thought i'd share it with ya ....it certainly has me looking forward to summer already...even though there is still 15" of ice on the lakes here. Ya..........parenthood, its absolutely fantastic though eh? Your little bundle of joy probably aint that little no more either! Thanks Jacques, i actually went back to that spot yesterday..........no walleye but a nice trout for supper. Walked out this time, and had my first going through the ice experience, up to my left knee just as we stepped off shore... Its gonna go fast here this year too, i'm guessing i'll almost be able to cast from my shore for close of walleye season on 15th April!

Hey Cisco, what method you fishing for the Lakers, might help folks to suggest best line for the method being used. Personally i have become a fan of straight jigging lakers with my line over the back of the boat near my transducer so i can watch the action just like ice fishing..........i just use 10lb braid with a 3' flouro leader, but thats in a lake where the trout are small and it aint more than 80' deep...
-
Great stuff Mike.........cant believe its that time of year already...............lol, i gotta sit back and just watch and drool as your reports come in thick and fast. Great pics and post.............cant wait for the next installment

Hi All, Seems like an age again since i posted anything fishy on here, fatherhood and all that. Anyway, got out to Thunder lake again for the first time in months, got some trout and got some walleye all from the same hole in 54 feet of water.......................biggest trout was 24" and the walleye alpha male was 19".... My buddy got one baby trout, i call 'em sandwich trout as they would fit perfectly in one sandwich...lol. anyway.............here's the vid...........my editing software does not allow for bleeping out swearing now..................so be warned before viewing, and YES...............SUPPER WAS AWESOME LAST NIGHT! <param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"> SUPPER!!!!

LOL...its only March ....give it time! Cant take any credit for the tunes selection....local radio. ITS CRAZY FOR SURE! i dont think its snowed since the beginning of January has it? Of course it aint over yet....walleye opener last year was a BLIZZARD...remember? same every year....lol. I have eazy....i like 'em.....but when a jig and minnow are working that good...as they say...keep it simple and dont fix what aint broke eh? It was an unbeleivable plus 10 Celcius out there.....crazy weather! LOL TJSA.....already entered a 25"....noyhing above 24" that day i'm afraid...but like i said before.......in a few months i'll get another 32"er right of the lawn for some added points. I always drive with my knees! Terry....it was an awesome day...so nice to ice fish without freezing your cojones off.

Hi All, got out to fish walleye again yesterday...with a few whitefish thrown into the mix. I've been fishing this lake a lot since it is 10 mins away and they are gonna be harvesting lumber in there this year so a road was ripped through the bush in a hurry a month ago. This has allowed me to identify a pretty hard fast rule/pattern for this lake......FISH DEEP! Also a jig and minnow was definitely the way to go....a large minnow too. Anything fancier than that was looked at but then ignored by even the biggest fish...the whitefish were also prefering jig and minnow...albeit smaller minnows. I got to my new spot where i'd done well a few days earlier, my buddies whom i told about the spot were already there ( i dont mind telling people a good spot, i've been told a few myself through the years). They were fishing in the holes i'd drilled in around 20-35' FOW. I dont like fishing in an area where the lines are concentrated in a small area so i thought i'd go deeper...as this had been the key to catching both lots of fish and the bigger ones too. Found 45'FOW about 50yrds from the main group and waited for an hour with only a couple of whitefish to show for my patience....that is until 4pm when all hell broke loose....FISH AFTER FISH AFTER FISH! some really nice 23's and 24's perfect 17.5" keepers....lots of smaller ones too....absolutely non stop action for 2 hrs. I know there is a certain amount of pride amongst fishermen.....but if i'm fishing shallow with buddies and someone is catching all the fish deeper...i'll sure as hell be moving deeper.....the boys just sat and watched me catch fish the whole time...whining they were not catching....bemoaning the fact i had a fishfinder and was cheating....lol....oh well. DESPITE THE LACK OF VID AND PHOTOS...THE BITE WAS TRULY ON (FOR ME....SNIGGER )

Great stuff Tom.....that Hummingbird looks the biz! Congrats on the PB...but damn you for remembering your team logo....lol. -
Hey Southpaw, Welcome to the site and welcome to NWO. I moved to Dryden 3 years ago....i moved because of fishing....lol. Its truly awesome up here. For winter....get a power auger.....a fishfinder....a walmart combo and some jigs and minnows......you can literally catch all the fish species available with that set up....maybe changing jig colour and size and minnow size depending on what fish species you are going for and how you see the fish react to your bait on the fishfinder. For summer....pretty much the same minus the auger and change up to a 6'6" spin combo from walmart or wherever. Do you have a boat? If so i recomend a Lowrance X67c as a starter fishfinder as you can use it on the ice and on your boat.....even if you dont have a boat i recomend it for the winter on the ice. You are in fishing heaven up there on Lac Seul.....should take you all of 1 day to land a pig walleye. I'm sure he would not mind..but give OFC member benbeattie a PM for more advice....he's based up in your area and sure he would not mind helping you out with more info on how and where to get started....he has helped me lots and even taken me out fishing. As for other websites.......for summer fishing this is the place to be....its even the place to be for winter too.....HOWEVER.....i do also like a website dedicated to ice fishing.....i've sent you a PM with the web address. Anyway...welcome to your new addiction! Feel free to PM me anytime....and given you are on Lac Seul i will accept your invitation in advance to come up and fish there with you...it takes me just over an hour to get there....lol....... All the best Simon.

Had an hour spare today, thought it would be nice to go for a ride on the snowmachine again....and of course take my rods with me My time restrictions dictated my venue choice and i opted for a spot on Lake Wabigoon around a 15 minute sled ride from the house. I went here a month or two ago looking for crappie but was unsuccessful....I PUT THAT RIGHT TODAY! Only one crappie, but it proved that the ones that i catch in spring are there now.....nothing more fancy than a 1/8 jig and medium minnow did the damage....and it was a 13" slab....NICE! Will be heading back there Friday to try a few different depths to see if we can locate a bigger concentration of them.....here's the Vid
