  5. Hi all, Called OldMan last minute last night seeing if he wanted to go for a couple hours Laker fishing today...YUP...lol...he did. We discussed the potential slush situation, given he'd been out on a small trout lake and almost got stuck a couple days before, and the slush in front of my house has been knee deep all week. The temps have been an average of 0 degrees C for the past week...so things are pretty liquid out there given all the snow we've had this year. Anyhoo, the plan was that despite being a heavy old beast of a triple more suited to groomed trails, we would take only my snowmobile and the Equinox sled instead of the otter flip up to cut down on weight, so we could just power through the slush. Slush was horrendous as anticipated(a little worse in fact) but with some hard packed snow right off the landing terminal velocity was achived and we smashed through on the way out. Getting back was another story. despite Gord saying he'd walk the sleigh to the hard packed snow some 20 meters away, i convinced him (wrongly) that we should just pin the throttle and go. BAD IDEA We could not get any speed up from the start with both of us on there and got all of 10 meters before we were stuck. We pushed and pulled and shovelled and were out in 10 minutes or so....but...i would have been screwed if i was by myself. Even worse i ended up flat on my arse in 12" of ice cold water....TWICE....ok when its as mild as it was...but this happening in -20 would be no laughing matter if i was solo and on a remote lake.....TODAY I LEARNED TO RESPECT SLUSH....was not nearly as bad as it could have been but an eye opener to what could be. GORD...YOU DA MAN!....sorry for convincing you i could get us through when you have way more experience in these areas...i'll shut the ^&%^ up and listen next time....lol. Anyway....twas not a picture taking day, but we did get some trout for our efforts...nothing big...in fact i got one that was not much bigger than 6" and another around 10"...good sign for the lake....and they both swam away happy as i slowed down the reeling up when i realized they were small so i did not blow their swim bladders out their rear ends! We kept a couple of 19-22" fish for eats......50' FOW....trout coming in when the baitfish showed...which was rare...spent most of the 2 hours staring at the blank screen of my X67c.
  6. AWESOME GLOVES BLAIR!!!!!!! fantastic GTG people...love all the pictures...Randy...that deer head is freakin' weird and scary....love it. So many different stories....great read. GOOD TIMES!
  7. Wow...that ling is nice. That herring wasn't messing around either...i spend ages trying to get them to hit sometimes...going right down to mini tubes....that thing it is not a spoon....LOOKS MORE LIKE A LADLE....lol. Great report RC...gotta love when the bite is on.
  8. Welcome to the board Riley. Look forward to your reports
  9. You can do it Paul...hell...i need to as well.
  10. Looks cold and wet out there RC....brrrrr.... Awesome blue perch...seen and caught blue walleye....but thats really cool. Good on ya for releasing the big one
  11. Have fun people....wish i could have made it!
  12. That's a great idea....Ben looks a bit like Chronzy....lol Was great fun watching Ben use the crappie rod for Lakers and whities. thanks Joey...was truly fun. Thanks...it was about time i got into some whities...the Simcoe reports were driving me nuts.
  13. Lol Skeets I think they both qualify for OFAH bonuses too...thats a good start for team 2! As for the quote, i seem to be pulling a lot of fish backwards up the hole this year! I told ya, i think they suit me! Nope, i think its gonna be my trademark! Think it will catch on?....dont answer that. LOL@ Lawnmower. Great to see ya again Ben. Definitely gonna have to try a new lake in March (when its warmer.) Please thank Gregh again for the antifreeze when you see him again...i was screwed without it today....next time i'll make sure the spare bottle i keep in the back of my sled is not an empty one Thanks Wallacio. To be honest there were two types it seemed...the suicidal ones as you say...but the amount of big fish that woul;d follow up or shoot off the bottom to get the bait upto 15' off bottom only to not bite was amazing. bloody good fun what...what. Yup, he's alright i guess Thanks s2k Thanks Gord, we'll have to hit up Ghost Lake soon and that lake you broke trail to, in fact ghost might be a good option tomorrow....we could just walk out if ya want...i've got a couple hours after a dentist appointment in the morning...we could be out there by 11:30 if ya want...not ideal time of the day...but i take what i can get. You love those gloves really! Thanks Bruce.
  14. Hi all, Met up with BenBeattie and his buddy Greg for a shot at some whitefish and trout on a lake we've fished together before.....only this time we got some fish, the last time i went here with Ben everybody skunked! . After a few scares with my sled, and a kindly donated gasline antifreeze evryone was set up and fishing in 40'-30'FOW. I was in my shack and Ben started out in Gregs pop-up. By the time Ben came to visit and fish in my shack....the two of them had hit at least 15 whitefish. I was not having much joy. I did land the first of my 2 trout just as Ben came knocking, but the whitefish would not commit. Ben was having the same trouble until one hit a Northland minnow i had left dangling. After that the fishing picked up. All this time Greg was absolutely slaying the whitefish. Ben estimated he had over 25 fish this afternoon. Ben and myself scored between 10 and 12 each, all but a couplke were released. Ben got some trout too and a nice pike, I think Greg got a trout too. All in all a fun day on the ice, and we were packed and on the road by 3pm. Here's some pics and vid of the day. APART FROM THE HOWLING WIND...GORGEOUS DAY (darn cold though) BAIT AND WHITEFISH ALL OVER THIS REEF THE FIRST WHITIE I GOT WAS AN ABSOLUTE TANK! 25.5" BUT THICK SHOULDERS AND HUMPBACK MY SECOND LAKER WAS A VERY RESPECTABLE 32"( In my haste to put it back the sign went Australian) AND SOME VIDEO CLIPS FROM TODAY......... <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/tKpyQUb-aVU" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe> Like i said, great fun day, nice to meet Greg although we did not talk much being in seperate shacks and given he was to busy catching...Slaying....whitefish. As for that BenBeattie doood....greaqt guy, great company, awesome fisherman. Thanks for a great day on the ice guys. HEY TEAM 2....WE GOT SOME INCHES!! Tight lines all. Simon
  15. Agreed on the frst 2 100000% the support local tackle stores is important too, however i do get ticked with a certain one when the prices are just ridiculous...latest case in point...those new Northland minnows ...the guy is asking $9 plus tax??!!!??
  16. all the above...mine does the same
  17. Really nice size whities.
  18. YUP...sounds right to me too Jackie
  19. Nice big whities Rick. WTG keepin' moving till you find 'em. We had to move lots the last time out for whities too, i find its hard to drag myself off to another spot when its really cold.

  21. They absolutely work for pike. Pike anglers in Europe ofetn use mackerel...like you say...an oily fish. I used to catch them by the hundreds sea fishing in the uk. What did not freeze for sea fishing bait or use for my BBQ i gave to a friend who fished for pike in the Exeter Canal in the UK. Check any pike fishing forum in Uk and search for 'mackerel' and you'll see all you need to know.
  22. LOL...try without the commas
  23. Yup met some wierd and wonderfull folks on here, Old Man fits both catergories....lol...just kidding. Oil of OLAY anyone? Nope, a few adjustments needed at first, but our units were only 2' feet apart and worked fine, it was only when Carmon turned on his X67c that it all went to hell. Dunno who the grey haired dood is either....he was trying to steal your trout though! Ok...now you have me intrigued...breaking trails into another lake on yer way home...hmmmmmm...i think you need to PM me Gord...dont you?
  24. LOL...big balls are overated and slow you down in the slush! Yeah RC...made my shrimp, clam and whitefish gumbo/jambolaya type soup/stew thingamabob....real tasty! It certainly was cold....but i have to go out regardless of the conditions...this is an addiction after all! Thanks Aaron, its due to get colder still in the next 2 weeks, getting myself ready. Your very welcome solo Its part of LOTW near Kenora, its the west side of LOTW and crosses the province border into Manitoba.
