1. Hi all, It wasn't planned but took my boy (21months old) ice fishing today for the first time. HE LOVED IT! He was fascinated by the ice auger drilling holes, loves riding with dad on the "snowmean"...he cant quite say snowmachine. His little hands resting on my thigh while he's perched at the front to hold on is sooooo cooooool, 2 buddies out for a ride! We went and checked out my buddy Lew's shack which he drove out boxing day, Jack thought that was awesome, he loved the little hatches for the ice holes. We only stayed for one hour, and fished for a total of 20 minutes and caught nothing...who cares , but nap time was fast approaching (for Jack) and lunch, although i had brought it with us was not gonna happen out there...he was way to excited to eat. He cried a lot on the way home, partly because he was tired but also....in his own words ...."LAKE AGAIN....LAKE, SNOWMEAN AGAIN"!!! He did not want to leave! Will have to get Mum to join us in the shack which is situated right over a prime walleye spot. Here are some pics from this afternoon. I'll never forget today....ever!!!!
2. How the hell did i miss this post!!!! WTG RC! Perch in beer batter on the ice...great day out!
3. Good advice RC...the only thing i would add to that is to perhaps find friends that are serious about fishing so they will move as well! Guess thats why i fish alone a lot, apart from the fact i'm a miserable old git too
4. Great report! I also get outfished by "her indoors" when she joins me. Never even heard of a cutty until this report, thanks for sharing. (and i thought i lived in a beautiful part of the world)
5. Great job Brian, thank you! Also thanks to Joey, our illustrious Team Captain.
6. Cool, i'm tempted to get one. There is something called a camera compass (click here to view) which is meant to help steer it.
7. Great report WM, Not a bad first fish at all! I noticed the 'fish-TV' in the piccy....how do you find them?
8. We agreed not to spend anything on each other , just stocking fillers. Got another jigging rap thrown in. AThis year was all about our baby boy (21 months). The boy is obsessed by snowmachines and 4X4s (he calls them 'tractors') and i got the best xmas gift ever this year watching my boys reaction when he saw his mini electric quad bike under the tree, then asking for a 'window like daddy'( a visor) on his bike helmet so we propmtly made him one with a piece of clear plastic we found. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkveTttCpYU?fs=1&hl=en_US">
9. Hey Mark, They really are not that difficult to work out even if you have never seen a fishfinder before. Wayne (Irishfield) has given you a link to the instructions....... Here is a link to the 'Product Emulator' X67c Simulator Link its a small downloadable program that simulates your x67c, you can play around with it. When you click the link scroll down till you see x67c (near bottom of the page) and click it. The only things i will suggest (i own an x67c too) is to always have chart speed at maximum, always have ping speed at maximum, adjust your sensitivity to see your jig, i.e. if you are in 10'FOW and have the sensitivity 100% you wont see much at all! Make sure you have the box checked for manual mode. thats it really, keep those tips in mind and you will master it in an afternoon on the ice! if ya need any more help just pm me. cheers Simon
10. Unfortunately this kind of thing happens a lot. I used to listen to this kind of Bull from sea anglers in England. The urban myths abounded about the local "chinese" people taking over limits and under sized bass blah...blah..blah racist Bull..blah.
11. Great catches, nice set up with the HDS5
12. WOW..real xmassy scene , nice spread. Happy Xmas Roy from Limey and family.
13. I'm off Sunday 9th Jan...sounds good.
14. First off....I'd like to wish everyone a belated HAPPY XMAS! Thanks for the replies folks, i actually snuck out for an hour same spot Xmas eve ( i just worked out how to snowmachine right from my yard to this lake across our lake and on the trails a bit!) Same scenario as in the report, first line down...WHAM!.....thgen.....NOTHING oh well...thats fishing. If ya think the gloves are sexy...you should see......lol...never mind. Another vote for the gloves, and after the recent fac3book status you replied to Ben...it dont look good on my part. Your right of course about the suspended fish...they is HUNTING!.....as soon as you get your jig in front of them...WHAM!...LOVE IT! Icefisherman...if you ever do venture up the timmies is on me and we'll hit the hardwater (or softqwater) for sure. JAN 1ST...CANT WAIT...LAKERS! Hey JB...how did you get on on Nungessor? Anyway, the ice is surprisingly....AWESOME! The minus -30 celcius cold snap we had for a whole week after the horrendous dump of snow has firmed everything up, even better there is no slush on the lakes i have been to so far, just a nice 5" coating of snow on top of 9" to 15" of ice! Another vote for the gloves.....you'll all be wearing them soon...NOT! Pssssst, i know i have a Lowrance ....but those Hummingbird 345c and 385c hummingbirds look interesting. I hate Quiche! Hey Gord, i'm skipping across to the Twin Towers and into Thunder on the 2nd January...up for it?
15. FANTASTIC PETE! Tyler is one cute boy. He looks so alert, perfect fishing buddy right there. Good job on getting out for perch too...like you said...its great to be out on the ice. Welcome back!
16. Hi all, Went out from 2pm till around 4pm. What an awesome session. I lucked out with the first hole drilled, fish all over the screen, wallies on the bottom and schools of baitfish at 20' FOW over 50' FOW. It wasn't 10 minutes and the auger was still hot by the time i had 3 keepers on the ice. I took 20 minutes to drill a few holes 100yrds away on a spot i had got them last year, came back and iced a few more keeper size before moving to the new holes. Same kind of depth, only its a steeper drop from a 20' shelf i marked in the summer. Lots of keeper size again, then just like last year i spotted a fish way up at 20' FOW over 50' FOW, reeled up quick to whwere it was, the fish slammed it! a nice 23". Lost one at the hole trying to get the camera out, again it was around 24". Both those fish were suspended at 20' over 50', just like last year. Anyone who is undecided about getting a flasher/fishfinder for the ice...dont...JUST GET ONE! I would have missed both those fish as i was jigging at the bottom when i saw them come in some 30' above my jig...reeled up and SLAM! Just before 4pm i started to pack up, went to get my set line (which saw no action until i moved it) dropped the transducer down and gave it a sharp jig. No sooner than that a fish screamed of bottom and nailed it. It felt small at first but turned out very close to 27"! All fish on 1/4 white jig with a tail hooked minnow...largish minnows. Anyways...here's the vid and some piccies. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhHV8QCyy3s?fs=1&hl=en_US">
17. yeah...i'm pretty sure its a cowfish, we caught them as kids in the Carribean. Although there is another type of cowfish that looks the same as that that actually has 2 horns(like a cow) , i'm not joking either.
18. Nope did not eat the whitefish. They dont taste like mud up here, well at least not the lakes i've caught them in. In fact they are awesome table fish, just i had enough walleye for a feed, i usually only keep what i'm gonna eat that evening, and for 2 of us...well 2 and a half, 3 walleye was enough.
19. Really?...just wondering? Or just stirring the pot....i'm sorry......but it seems some people hardly ever reply to a post unless its something negative. I had this crap before, and those who know me, know i dont rant off at the mouth often...if at all....but it ticks me off when i feel thats whats happening. For the record, Whitefish are in season all year round in Zone 5 (thats where i caught it), a sport license limit is 12, conservation limit is 6.

21. Lol...what a cool bird. They are awesome pets!
22. Great first outing, its not easy when you cant get to the good spots...but like you said...good to be out! -5? THATS SUMMER...I'D NEED BUG SPRAY HERE....LOL.
23. I ran my all seasons on my light truck the first winter i had it, i switched to winter tires with studs the next year, what a difference, especially on the bush roads that are basically a sheet of ice by Jan, like someone said...running on rails.
