1. Good job Misfish. Now i wanna go get some whitefish!
2. Nice pike Long, great intro. Welcome aboard
3. Thanks Rich, certainly hope so....i'll just ease him into it so he does not get put off....there have been many good posts on here about how to first get kids into it, then keep them interested without boring them into hating it. Thanks SM, i am biased...lol....but i have to agree..he's damn cute! LOL...Moxie...i can totally picture that scenario, i'm pretty sure he's gonna be in the boat lots this summer....he talks about the 'bye-bye boat....all done....summer" still...he loved the boat...just attention span and steadiness and mobility/safety were the issue last summer.
4. that underwater footage is awesom....and my local tackle guy needs to get real...he wants $7.99 for one of those Northland Minnows!
5. That was amazing...way cool! Do you have to be using a mac to use quicktime pro? I also have a Canon, and the .MOV format causes me no end of hassle since i'm on a PC.
6. That sled is too nice. Is it not bad for a sled to run on bare ice like that though, i welded my track to the sliders a couple years back driving on hard pack snow/ice...or is that just sumfink that happens with older crappy sleds....like mine. Anyway....awesome sled, awesome pics...hope supper was good...of course it was...fresh fishies....mmmmmmmmmm. Nice one Joey.
7. Thanks for the replies gang, was awesome to get out for trout again, even if they were little 'uns. Now fishing gets easier for me to juggle around Jack and work. Because i dont have many whole day fishing opportunities i am kind of limited to a few close by lakes. Before trout is open that means walleye, but either the lake at the bottom of the yard or the nearby ones are evening bite lakes, which further restricts fishing time. Now with trout season open i'm still limited but i have a day time opportunity too now LOL....cant tell him much...he's a friggin know it all (just kidding Carmon ) Nope, did not keep the Ling, i was hardly gonna have enough time to clean the trout when i got home as i headed straight to bed....i'm on night shift now as i write Thanks Brian yeah, the ice was sooooo clear, that part of the lake remained open for all the snow we got, it then went down to -30C for a week before the next snow fell so there was no slushy layer at all, 15" of clear black ice. Thanks splash, was a real hoot, was even better once i got my temperamental heater to work.....brrrrrr....windchill was -32c today. Yup,we did think the ling was a trout, it went nuts for a few seconds about half way up, then dead weight till it saw us! MMMMMMMM...thats sounds good, will have to try that. Basically Ling is freshwater cod, and being an Englishman who misses `real`cod and chips, thats how i usually do it. But yeah...Ling is the best tasting fish out there, walleye does not even come close! LOL...i dodnt mind losing a few if i get a few...its when the bite is really slow and the only hit you get you lose at the hole....AAAARRRRGH Cant wait to see you get out on your new toy Joey...damn thats a sweet ride. Where you going for trout JDS
8. Hi all, Well i made it out to my local trout lake, first trout session of the new year. Pretty slow start, well, pretty slow for this lake for the whole 3 hours. Lots of small fish with one big Ling. Lost plenty of fish too. At one point the bells on Carmon's rod went outside, he ran to get it and thought he'd lost it. At that precise moment his rod inside the hut tries to disappear down the hole. It was in fact on the inside rod and had twisted in his outside line some 20 feet away making the bells go off. I grabbed his rod....and whaddaya know, i get one on. Because Carmon is outside alls i can do is hold onto both rods, couldn't reel...nuffink. WE LOST BOTH FISH! WE were fishing in 65'FOW, small brown (1/4oz) jig and medium minnow did the damage, the trout were fussy today, lots of different presentations tried...the usual suspects, white tube jigs, powerbait double twister tails(white), jigging raps, whistler jigs, even tried my clackin' Rap...but in the end it was the jig and minnow that produced. The ling hit a stationary white powerbait twister tail with a dead minnow piggybacking. Great morning out, really good fun, cut short because of my night shift tonight. Her's some vid and a pic of the Ling. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6lzgqfs-Ho?fs=1&hl=en_US">
9. Cant believe it! Ended the year by skunking! Got out for 2 hours on the 30th and 1 hour on 31st. fishing was slow the first day, but was not expecting the skunkypoo to raise its ugly head the second day. Oh well thats fishing. Kinda should have known it was gonna happen as everything was going wrong yesterday, snowblower broke, broke an expensive tie down, my buddy showed up with his plow just as i finished snowblowing in 35kmh winds after spending 2 hours fixing ignition on snowblower....then a skunk?...should have known ...lol still fishing deep, jigs and minnows, still getting walleye suspended at 20'FOW over 50'FOW,just nothing on the second day. A few fish did show on screen, but did not matter what i tried...they weren't interested. Trout fishing tomorrow Here's the vid for the 30th Dec with my buddy in my flip-up. Darn nice to have the heater...it was freeeeeezing that day. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-4eeTh1X-E?fs=1&hl=en_US">
10. awesome Post Moxie! I get a lot of folks say the envy the fishing up here....well i envy BOQ!!! More posts please
11. Great post Frankie, kids smiles say it all. 300 fish! wow...busy day.
12. OMG That is friggin awesome Joey! I just finished reading your post about the MTO, then CT. They are all MUPPETS! However, i would go through all that 10 times to own a sled like that. I'm drooling into the keyboard, my XLT was bought when i knew little about sleds, not the best for breaking trail or deep snow, but that sled you got will go through anything, the beast will glide/float/fly over slush. I cant bare it, i haven't even got the strength left to mention that awesome trailer! Very happy for ya both, i'd say enjoy, but that would be redundant....anyway...i'll say it...ENJOY! PS....Happy New Year to you and Paul. Simon. (oh, Jack also saw the picture...he's on my lap screaming "SNOWMEAN!"
13. Happy New Year to you too Lew. And a happy new year to everyone else Simon
14. BEDS?! AWESOME....when can i move in? Nice shack Skeets.
15. Thanks GBW Well i'm still looking forward to meeting up with you in the new year, not many of us NWO boys on this site...gotta stick together so to speak, so maybe one day your grandson and Jack can hit the ice together.
16. Once again, thanks for the kind words people, the response to this thread (without sounding to cheesy) is why i love this site, an extended family really. Look forward to seeing a post with the wee lad/lass? sometime. Thanks Joey, i love the little man sooo much it hurts sometimes, and yeah...i'm ridiculously proud Yup, cant wait till summer almost, get him in the boat, but i aint gonna wish time to fast forward, just gonna enjoy every moment of now, he grows so quick, everyday he's doing something more grown up! LOL..i cant help it RC Thanks as always Corvy. We were only out for an hour, but he loved every minute, especiallly the snomachine ride to and from. Yeah, i really hope he continues to find amusement in the outdoors, he's royally screwed if he doesn't given where we live....lol Thanks Paul, he loves any and everything with buttons on it. The best non catching session by far for me!
17. welcome to the board Moxie
18. Thanks for the replies gang...i am one proud daddy today, his poor feet were frozen solid when i took his so called -30 boots off when we got home, he did not complain about that once...will have to be careful next time...especially since he was having so much fun he blocked out the pain of frozen digits! Yup...your insights ring true, thats exactly how i was! Dad feels luckier at the moment. But yeah, this is exactly what we moved here from England for. It certainly was a great day(hour) Yup, treasures for sure. Seemed like forever coming ! Its great at this age eh? Did you get any pics Jacques? Sure you'll get into them next time. He was absolutely fascinated by the fishfinder, gonna have to get a cheap cuda for him to mess with. Yah....its a rollercoaster ride being a dad for sure....LOVE IT! Brian....that is my favourite pic too....he just looks so into the whole thing, it totally looks like he's sharing a joke with the boys, what he was actually smiling at was another snowmachine whizzing by.
19. They are and they aren't 'pickerel' is another name for 'walleye' in some parts. Pickeral is also a type of pike......'Chain Pickeral' Google chain pickeral to see one, they are smaller than northern pike with distinct 'chain' like markings. So....like i said, they are the same and different depending on who you speak to and where you speak to them. I also find that people who are a little longer in the tooth refer to walleye as pickerel more often than the younger anglers out there.
20. Hi all, It wasn't planned but took my boy (21months old) ice fishing today for the first time. HE LOVED IT! He was fascinated by the ice auger drilling holes, loves riding with dad on the "snowmean"...he cant quite say snowmachine. His little hands resting on my thigh while he's perched at the front to hold on is sooooo cooooool, 2 buddies out for a ride! We went and checked out my buddy Lew's shack which he drove out boxing day, Jack thought that was awesome, he loved the little hatches for the ice holes. We only stayed for one hour, and fished for a total of 20 minutes and caught nothing...who cares , but nap time was fast approaching (for Jack) and lunch, although i had brought it with us was not gonna happen out there...he was way to excited to eat. He cried a lot on the way home, partly because he was tired but also....in his own words ...."LAKE AGAIN....LAKE, SNOWMEAN AGAIN"!!! He did not want to leave! Will have to get Mum to join us in the shack which is situated right over a prime walleye spot. Here are some pics from this afternoon. I'll never forget today....ever!!!!
21. How the hell did i miss this post!!!! WTG RC! Perch in beer batter on the ice...great day out!
22. Good advice RC...the only thing i would add to that is to perhaps find friends that are serious about fishing so they will move as well! Guess thats why i fish alone a lot, apart from the fact i'm a miserable old git too
23. Great report! I also get outfished by "her indoors" when she joins me. Never even heard of a cutty until this report, thanks for sharing. (and i thought i lived in a beautiful part of the world)
24. Great job Brian, thank you! Also thanks to Joey, our illustrious Team Captain.
25. Cool, i'm tempted to get one. There is something called a camera compass (click here to view) which is meant to help steer it.
