I was even talking about you to my buddy on the way up. We were trying to see if we could see your name on any of the signs by the houses. Anyway, be great to hear update 'bite' forcasts...maybe you'll join us some time eh? Just wear a red carnation so we know how to recognise you this time She is that! Can only get betterrerer.

Hi all, Did a bit of research and figured our best chance for open water fishing (and catching) was a little stretch of water with some current about 10 miles past Blue Lake North of Vermillion Bay. Only a small area to cast(which got bigger as the evening wore on) and shared with a family of 4. FOUND A PUDDLE TO CAST AT WITH MY BUDDY CLIFF We got there at about 5pm and it wasn't until 6:20pm that Cliff got the first fish.....a massive 6" walleye. I followed that with 3 exactly the same size and then Cliff got a nice keeper right at the end. Our guides were freezing up from around 6pm and there was a brutal wind the whole time we were there. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! AT LEAST WE AVOIDED THE SKUNK! The family beside us were using slip bobbers to anchor in the current with no success. Cliff and i were using a floating jig with a couple of split shot 18" up the line with a medium paced retrieve. The fish were small but very aggressive! Wont get out for 2 weeks now but the next outing will be in a boat...love it!

Thanks for the great replies. I will of course look into all suggestions. Gord....I always head to the Fish'nhole on the way in and have been to Pro-Am a couple of times too...a trip to Winnipeg would be incomplete without visiting Wholesale sports so will check them too. Despite what my original post 'might' have sounded like to some people i have done enough research before hand to know what the better price of the unit is....and Cabelas is not it! Even factoring in internet delivery charges and taxes! In fact Cabelas seems to want to factor delivery charges into their price on this one. I also have had no problems with Cabelas...and in the past their customer service has been excellent! But that does not mean that this is right.....its robbery and they can go to hell on this one. They need to update their website too as so people do not assume they are getting the newer one. Man o man.....i'm going fishing now....lol...gonna head up to past blue lake looking for current and open water to toss a line with a buddy of mine.

Are you serious? Did you even bother reading my post!!?? You wanna hear me rant just post nonsense like that more often!

Hi All, I am going to purchase a Minn-Kota I-Pilot this spring. I noticed however that they have updated it for 2012. The new one has a different remote, wider screen, slimmer. ergonomics and can save 6 instead of 3 "lock spots". When i went to order online at Cabelas i noticed that the picture of the product on the website was of the older model. Not wanting to end up with the old model i thought i'd call the Winnipeg shop to check. Glad i did. The item listed on the website is the older model. The new one is also $40 more expensive. I was a bit disappointed with their price. In the past i have found Cabelas to be very competitive ,or the cheapest or near to it for Canadian retailers on most things( their price on my Terrova was even better than US reatailers at a time the looney was way above par!). This is just fleecing the customer in my opinion. RRP is $449...NOT $469....and that is before tax. LOST MY PURCHASE THERE CABELAS...congrats! I really hope this is not a turning point for them in terms of pricing...now that they feel established and confident they can charge what the hell they like! A bit pissed off...i have been saving for a long time to get this, was headed to winnipeg anyway on Sunday next week....was pretty pumped to be finally getting it, but i refuse to let these shysters fleece me if i can help it....time to shop around...SHAME REALLY Rant done.....but felt it necessary in case anyone else ended up with an outdated model this spring.

Most stupid thing you've heard while fishing,

Why i prefer to fish alone mostly, and in my own boat! I fished with a guy who insisted on having fish I.D and alarm on at all times. We would sit on a spot marking bubbles and weeds without catching anything but he would refuse to move cuz "No...look...look at all the fish down there!" And folks who dont understand that when you are on a lake that is 4 million square miles in size with only 2 boats on it, it is not cool to use my marker bouy as a point of reference causing our hulls to touch from time to time, without as much as a hello or tip of the hat. -
I'm thinking in 8 days or less i will be casting for walleye from shore and in 2 weeks i will be fishing for them in my boat for a week till it closes.....then on to lake trout, bass and crappie till it opens again...either way i am anticipating open water and boat fishing to start in 2 weeks! I WILL BE OUT IN A BLIZZARD...DONE IT BEFORE...WOULD DO IT AGAIN ANY DAY!

Awesome. Yup....ice lifting here too, should drain the water off quick. Rain and wind forcast with the hot weather should do a number on the 18" that we have out the front of the house.
-
Gonna be a while for boats here...maybe some shore opportunities soon. Its not due to go below 8C for the next week and a half....unreal....like it a lot though! Have saved ourselves a ton of pellets for the stove too

What the hell....24C today....21C yesterday Have not been able to get out on the ice because of other commitments and dont think i will get out again at this rate! Even when i did have time, it meant Jack would have to come....his rubber boots are only 7" high and the water on the lake is about that if not more. Early spring was awesome cuz Jack has been getting out lots on his new 4 wheeler he got for his Bday.....great fun in the sun while we wait to get the boat out. THE BOY IS A DEFINATELY GONNA LOVE GROWING UP IN NWO <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/kFdUU0K27Sg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
