Hi all, Me again...lol. Went out for some lakers today. With the water temps hovering just above 40 degrees F i spent the first hour and a half trolling the shallows with a variety of rigs/jigs/spoons and hardbaits.....with only a pike to show for it. I then spent another hour checking out deeper water with no reward. I decided to get some relief and targeted bass on a spot i know....they were there in numbers! Jig and minnow did the damage. They were in 14'FOW behind a windswept shaol. Man....the wind was relentless today......all i can say is that the I-pilot did its job flawlessly again....i really cant sing it's praises enough....i have not even used the track record feature....spot lock is like having a guide in the boat every trip....held me on the spot within feet of where i wanted for a whole hour in 25kmh head on winds!!! Battery was still at 80% when i got home. Best of all was i hooked into a trout casting a jig and minnow for bass in 12'FOW...supper accomplished too! Great little session, bleedin' freezin'....did not get much above 4 Degrees C. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/AXj153pKM7g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Hi all, finished my 2 night shifts and wanted nothing more than a few hours in the boat before attending to boring stuff. Jack was not about to let me go without a ride around the bay first. Got the rest of the crew to shore and headed out around 10:30am for some bass, pike and crappie............ <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yY_lczVg8pE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Still no crappie, and not really the will, energy or time to go looking, water temps were creeping into the mid 40s. Bass were in really shallow, not more than 5'FOW and in as little as 18". Pike were all fairly deep, upto 22'FOW, but nothing big. I did see one strike at a twister tail i tried just after seeing the snapping turtle...but failed to connect properly....looked much bigger...perhaps 35" or so. That turtle was big, feet on it were huge, about the same diameter as a small dinner plate! Headed into town and did a few chores.....knew it was gonna be a good day when the guy who swaps my winter/summer tires over says...."dont worry about it Si.....no charge".....awesome! By the time i got home i was ready to drop, but Jack had seen the boat moored at the bottom of the lawn and wanted to go! So we had supper, said goodbye to mum who was doing nights too, packed some snacks and drove the long way (avoiding sceptic field) to the lake down the lawn. At one point we had a discussion about best jigging techniques....Jack thought i should not be using a slip bobber but a 'Cars' rod like his with a jig. About 2 minutes later he was reeling in the only fish of the evening to prove his point about tackle selection and technique! Fantastic...a month past his 3rd birthday and outfishing the old man already!!! I am a little bit proud of the little fella. Fish was out of season so quick release performed ...there will be other photo opportunities. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qP463kJP6g0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> We finished the evening with many discussions about seaguls, beaver sticks and 'quiet motors' (Jack's term for the Minn Kota). Was a beautiful still night Jack got to sit with dad as we drove up the hill with the boat, and was a great help refreshing the minnows in the bucket....although he got a little wet doing it. OH YEAH....THE MOZZIES MADE THEIR DEBUT APPEARANCE.......DOH......LOL.

I am old and grey...lol JB...seriously...i was dead against the dog...but he's pretty cool to have. I always thought they were too much hassle, but up here is made for him...no walks on a leash...open the door...he takes off....call him...you hear him bounding through the forest to come in. Like i said...it was his first time in the boat....he went beserk with excitement when i pulled up to shore and jumped right into the boat. He was a bit freaked when the boat was moving but could not go far cuz my wife had hold of his leash. When i was trailering the boat he jumped back in and stayed in while i winched it on...but as soon as it was on land he jumped out. He is a good swimmer but seems reluctant because of the water temp to go too far...time will tell i guess. He is only 6 months old so its hard to say.

Hi All, Was determined to get out in the boat today. Put off from in front of the house and headed in search of pike, bass and crappie. Took some big sucker minnows for under a slip bobber but was not to be. Got a couple OOS walleye and a whole bunch of hammer handle pike but no big girls, no bass and not a sniff of a crappie anywhere. IT WAS COLD TODAY. 25kmh NE wind when i left...but rather pleasant by 8pm. Best bit of the trip was fnding mum, Jack and Roloff waiting for a boat ride when i pulled upto to shore....Roloff's first time in the boat. VIDEO. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LE8Mx4uYN5w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> WAS STILL COLD ON THE WAY HOME.....BUT AT LEAST THE WIND DIED OFF WAS AWESOME....MUM, JACK AND ROLOFF WAITING FOR A BOAT RIDE WHEN I ARRIVED HOME...TOOK SOME INTERESTING PICS OF ICE ON OUR SHORE WHILE THEY GOT THEIR PFDs ON WENT FOR A BOAT RIDE BEFORE JACK'S BEDTIME, ROLOFF'S 1ST TIME IN THE TINNY!

Can you shorefish walleye on Lake Ontario
limeyangler replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the replies, topic came up in conversation with a buddy...was just wondering. -
I know its a big lake, but just wondering if anyone on the forum has ever shorefished for them and were they successful. Obviously not asking where....just if it can be done successfully, or are all the fish out over deeper water most of the time. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Mark. Looks like the specs for your unit and the 62s are the same. I have now had you and Bill say that the 1.7GB internal is good enough. The only difference between your units is nautical maps preloaded, outdoor GPS games(whatever those are?)and the fact that the 78 floats. It just so happens that Walmart here in town has those too....so got a hands on look at one yesterday morning. The floating part is what has my interest....lol...with my luck. Couple of questions Mark.....what maps have you got on the internal and what other maps do you use/recommend. I did a bit more research and the Garmin Lake Maps get a really $hitty press, especially for NWO. Thanks in advance.

Its a bit of a tease now its closed, cuz yeah...they are hungry.....those big minnows were left over from my Eagle lake adventures last week, they would go for the biggest minnow you could find in yer bucket! By my 3rd trip out last week i had mostly 6" suckers with me. the crappie and bass are open and i will be trying for pike too, so i can still service my addiction....not to mention lakers....yeah...might take jack up to Thunder lake to shore fish a laker or two.

Your on, we'll head out and get supper while the kids play! Could not upload anything on my work computer last night...so here are my pics a little late. That 21" hit seconds after saying "i dont think i'll get any big ones"......lol...not the worlds largest but she hit like a frieght train and inhaled a 5" sucker minnow....same colour as your shaky head worms! She was hooked deep, but swam away after a pic, hope she was ok. Jack did not join me last night...he was reading books with mum in his jammies...he can see me from the couch though. Roloff was with me, he's a good swimmer and curious about fish....lol. Hope you dont mind me posting here. Cheers <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mL3KVnqSFa4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Yeah GPScity has the 62sc for $399 and the 62s for $379. Walmart has the 62s for $389......so for a few extra bucks you get 3.5GB and a camera. With your endorsement and Danc's its just a matter of price now i think....GPSCity is the best so far...Ebay is expensive on this one...Amazon is ridiculous for this one too.
