Where are you going for the May Long Weekend?
oldphart replied to npt1's topic in General Discussion
~~~Crack welded, screwing down the boat deck, and charging the Deep Cells this weekend, readt to go next weekend, then maybe Cooks bay for Crappie, Perch, or Pike -
~~~~Well as I said took my boat over to Bowmanville to a guy named Garrnett dropped it off Sat morning and he calls back at 5:30 boats ready, so I went and got her, he did a fantastic job of clearing the old gunk I had on there and welded it up, and on the inside he puts some heavy tack welds, his quote for the job was $200, we agreed it was worth $250. Highly recommend him.

~~~Thanks guys wish I had asked earlier, found a guy in Bowmanville, taking the boat there this Sat. and pick it up Sunday.
~~~~Well after finally getting the front deck off the boat got a good look at the crack, and decided to get it welded. Asking if anyone in my area knows a good Aluminum welder, or shop, Too old to do it myself

~~~Bought some minnows from Gagnons, partner went there on Saturday, and got some, come Sunday, went to bait up and found they were Mud Minnows, and a hell of a lot of Sticklebacks. Perch would take them and spit them out faster then they took in. Should have waited and got my bait in Orillia,
~~~Went up to Orillia for the Perch Derby, caught some to enter, phishen from shore, later went down to the Talbot Canal exit, big crowd on the lake side of the Swing bridge, lots of tangled lines and swearing, across the road on the other side of the bridge no one but me and 3 others, picked up 2 very nice perch. and a whole lot of pinheads swimming up stream -

~~~Sinker 2 weeks ago Grass was breaking up from the river on the east end almost over to the outlet, Maple was getting soft, and Halliburton was open at Fort Irwin, but water levels were too low to launch drops about a foot of the ramp
~~~Thanks for the info, and the Ideas guys, by using the Rods I'll need to clean the old sealant off first, which was a pain to put on, when your laying on your back, and by going from inside leaving the old stuff on, should help to stem the flow of water. The old girl getting old 20 years I've had her, with no real major repair bills

~~I have an 12" thin crack in my bow at the base where it meets the centre hull. I've stopped the rack from spreading by drilling a small hole at each end, and have used most products to cover the crack (JB Weld) and a few others. and works for a short time but need to do it every year, this year I am going to try it from the inside using a can of Flex Seal as seen on TV. Bought a 16oz can of Liquid Rubber, and am hopping to pour it above the crack so it flows down and over it, sealing the crack from the inside. My biggest problem is getting the front deck floor up, boat is a 16.5 Tracker, and what they did was put some glue on top of the heads and some carpet fiber on it, so they are hard to find, with my bad eyes, most of the screws are Philips, with a few Robinson thrown in to give me a challenge. Meanwhile phishen partners are asking when can we get out on the water, I'm suggesting a few spots on shore Will post again as how I make out, will be a while, the screw are difficult and I'm old, and slow

~~~Hit the show last year, and will be there again on Saturday. Enjoyed it
~~~Ramp in Newcastle been open for a while for the Big O, browns are in tight

~~~Was up in the Halliburton region, on Sat. stopping at the Minden Bait & Tackle shop, for bait, picked up 2 doz. med. size minnows, only to find out later should have got the smaller size. We headed to a spot I like which is a short walk out off the boat ramp, had to climb over a 2' high Ice build up on shore, then a very slipper walk out with no snow on the ice. Got set up on 30' of water, with 15" of ice, saw some marking on the bottom. and with in 30min. my partner had their first Trout ever, 1.5lber on the ice, great size for the pan. wind started to pick up so we put up the pop up then I like to run a free flowing hook set up with a small split shot about 8" from the hook, and a bell sinker farther up the line, and a open bail, so when the phish takes the minnow it will not feel the weight, Well sure enough I had one on, very nice 3lber. we had a few more hits, losing 2 just below the ice( been a while since I had a Trout on) seems most the action was in the AM, so about 3 we packed it in, when gutted the phish the smaller one had some dragonfly larva's it, and the larger one had a gut full of minnows, all were smaller then the ones I had bought. Will heading back again this up coming weekend, and I'll be buying the smaller size
