  1. Wow...that is pretty cool!! I edited the image a little...took the negative of that last pic and darkened it a little. It may be a little easier to see this way....
  2. Wow...what a great report...great friends, great fishing and great times. It doesn't get much better than this! The smiles all around tells the real story.
  3. Great report! Some great bass shots there and that beaver...well that's something you just dont see every day!!!!
  4. Thanks everyone....my goal this year was to catch one salmon that qualifies for an OFAH award. This fish made it by a mere 2 inches. If I dont catch another one this year, then I'll be very content with the successes I've already had.... now..... I WANNA BIG MUSKIE!!!!!!! LOL
  5. Wow...now that's hard core...waking up at 330am to fish and then go to school afterwards! Great job out there...you persevered through the rain and was rewarded with a beauty fish! Congrats!
  6. A day that will be with me forever. Never forget.
  7. Wow...that's all I can say. Bly and I headed out again tonight...me in search of my second salmon from shore and she awaiting her first. We got there at around 8pm...the sun was going down and there were quite a lot of people around. This time, I didn't bother experimenting with crank baits and went straight to tossing my spoon. About 45 minutes in (exactly 24 hours since I hooked my first one last night), I have a HUGE hit. Quickly set the hook and the fight is on!!! This one took off on a few hard runs, but I felt a little more confident and thumbed the spool as she started to run towards some snags in the water. I thought I had lost her at one point...the line went completely slack....so I started to reel as fast as I could. Wouldn't you know it...she was almost right in front of me!! She took off on a few more quick runs, but she couldn't escape the net!! Here she is...a real beauty and my new personal best. She measured in at 38" in length and came in at 18.5 pounds. This also beats the current best for team 6!! We have a new entry in the OFC tourney. After removing the hook, I looked in amazement...she completely destroyed the trebles and her teeth did a number on the paint. I quickly replaced the trebles and started casting out again. Apparently, my rod was no match for two powerful salmon as the tip broke off on my next cast out there. We continued fishing...Bly had a few solid hits, but she was unlucky and didn't end up fighting one. Her time will come...and you just know it...she'll beat my PB length by an inch and weight by a pound. That's ok...I'm used to it now...between the two of us, she has the largest steelhead and walleye....LOL. Anyhow....pretty tired...need sleep. I'm still pumped.....
  8. I dont have real Carp gear. I was using a 9 foot surf rod with a rather large spinning reel for carp. It's a bit cumbersome using that rod for casting lures...I'd last maybe 10 casts before my arms got to tired...LOL. It's good for me for carp...you cast and just let it sit there...maybe 10 casts in the entire outing...haha.
  9. Sorry to hear about the plant shut down....but happy to hear you seem to be looking forward to more fishing!! Things will work out...they always do...in the meantime, there's nothing wrong with wetting a line or two. Good luck! (with both fishing and job).
  10. 12 pounds of any single fish to me is still a BIG fish!!! LOL.
  11. I'm not an expert, but the minimum length for one to qualify for an Ontario Angler Award (OFAH Program) is 30". I'd say anything over that is a very respectable fish. The biggest this year in that program is 36" (24 pounds). Last year, the biggest was 36.75" and 21 pounds....and for 2005 it was 36" and 18 pounds. The Canadian record great lakes Coho by weight looks to be 26.64 pounds... http://www.canadian-sportfishing.com/Natio...h_And_Keep1.asp
  12. Great news! Congrats to you and your family!
  13. I thought ppm stood for "parts per million". Each emission (eg Hydrocarbon, Nitric Oxide), has a threshold of how many ppm is acceptable. If it's over that amount, that part of the test fails.
  14. MJL - I wouldn't have put a shock leader on if I didn't have a break off just the other day on a run...not on the cast. I am using a small 6'6" rod, so the rod couldn't absorb a lot of the shock...who knows, probably a combination of that and drag set a bit to tight....I just figured I'd try this to see if I could minimize the shock on the 20lb power pro if the fish took a quick run. I caught this guy at the location of my home carp swim...you know the area, so in order to try to control the fish and not have it hit the "abundant structure", I had to thumb the spool a lot to try and cut those runs short. I'm just rambling here...LOL
  15. Beauty mirror carp!! I have yet to catch one of those. Carp are a lot of fun...it's a great way to learn how to fight a big fish. The learning from carp fishing will take you into other even harder fighting fish...and make you more confident in landing them. Great report and pics....great job out there!
  16. Hey there! That was great info toronto angler found, I had no idea it started with carp. Anyhow, because I used 20lb power pro line, there is no stretch in it. This can be bad as it's possible to have a line break because of that. When a line stretches, it's able to absorb some of the "shock" from a quick run. Simply make a heavy mono or florocarbon leader and put it between the power pro and your lure and you have a shock leader. I was using a 6'6" Shimano rod with a Pfeluger spinning reel.
  17. I was actually saying to Bly that landing carp was GREAT practice for me. If I had not landed them earlier this spring, I think I would have lost this one for sure. They are similar in some regards, but I learned how to play BIG fish targeting Carp.
  18. We were sworn to secrecy on that....LOL. But if you travel from Montreal to Oshawa, you may see us in a tackle shop buying some later today....haha.
  19. Great report! It's awesome to be able to share this addiction with your kids! Looking forward to you next report.

  21. Oh great...now most of the Quesnel family is armed....LOL. Congrats to the two of them!! You must be so proud!
  22. Wow...great story...I guess you just never know what may be lurking in such shallow waters! I hear you about the rain....went to Cameron Lake with fishnsled and bly...we didn't believe the weatherman though and brought our rain gear just in case....and glad we did!! Great pic!!
  23. Your pics are always amazing!!! Looking forward to more later on. BTW...do you ever get out to fish?? LOL
