  2. keep it simple young grasshoppa. dem der fancy minnow baits are nice & all but, for bass fishing, many will argue your best friends are the tube for smallies and the jig & pig for largemouth. #3 mepps black fury has also been known to catch all kinds of fish. you've got lots of poppers, try out a different style of surface bait (ie. jitterbug). as mentioned, spinnerbaits are another great lure.. unfortunately many manufacturers went to "R-Bend" (not closed loop) style SBs in bass sizes. If you can find some that are closed loop, get 'em. By far more durable. invest in a good rod & reel. a 4000 series reel on a medium action rod is waaay too much reel for bass. a 2000 or 2500 series will be more than adequate. ohh yes, less talk more fish. get them lures scratched up.
  3. i have a 7' ML st. croix as well. mostly use it in the spring for walleye jiggn, lake trout long lining and would use it for smallies if i ever fished for them. ideal setup for small inlines, jigs, tubes, unweighted plastics (provided you aren't fishing in heavy cover). i have it with a 2000 series daiwa and 6-8lb mono.
  4. very nice Dan. i too am thinking of stepping up to a DSLR. they were priced out of my league considering i've lot to learn and p&s have been just fine. they sure have become more affordable these days.

alright some verbage. that thread was over the minute the pic of moosebunk's arctic char was posted.. but i don't disagree. love the look of lakers, especially the 'dark' ones. their fins are such a brilliant white - pics don't do them justice. Does that mean we'll see ya somewhere around 4/20? thanks Cliff.. this is a year end thread & they didn't make the cut lol. bear with me here a lil Not taking anything away from 08, great company, great water and fish were caught. However, looking back over the year, we didn't boat any real giants and it was a tough year in the sense that it seemed we always had to work for fish. Whether it was wind, brutal cold, oppressive heat, post-cold front bluebird skies, or unusually high water levels - it was an odd year. It re-affirmed my belief that I need to get rich & retire and/or find a rich wife so I can pick my days instead of being a wknd warrior . I think a few pics tell an interesting tale in that they were taken during low light. We did quite a bit of fishing (and were succesful) before or after the sun was up, right out of your playbook . We spent a few hours on shore with brown pops and/or catching some zzz's due to the heat or wind in the day. Fish smarter not neccessarily harder. I'm not sure I am sold yet but, the solunar calendar was quite often 'right' too as a few of the fish in the pics were caught during 'prime' periods. thanks! best of luck in '09 to you too. Thanks for the blast from the past, Phil. No snail on the Jeep though.. (yet???)

  22. you'll be fine.. the turbo models have big brakes - i doubt a 15" wheel would fit over them but in your case, you should be ok. only one way to find out.
